LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. F-1 Leave of Absence for Association Business referred to in Article 11.02 will be granted provided the number of nurses on such leave does not exceed one (1) from any nursing unit at any one time, unless otherwise mutually agreed. The total time of absence of all nurses granted under this clause shall not exceed an aggregate of fifty (50) days in a calendar year. The Association will endeavour to request leave two (2) weeks prior to the schedule in which the leave falls. Where less than two (2) weeks notice is given, the Hospital will endeavour to grant the leave. In calculating the above fifty (50) day aggregate leave, any time spent by a nurse who is a member of the Board of the Ontario Nurses’ Association, in attending Board meetings, shall not be included. It is understood this exclusion shall be limited to one nurse in the Hospital. A nurse who has a scheduled day off on a day that she is required to attend an Association function, will if she so requests, and where possible be granted an alternate day off without pay, providing she has given as much notice as possible and no less than two (two) weeks’ notice. The original scheduled day off will then be treated as a leave of absence for Association business under 11.02.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. E-1 The Hospital agrees to grant a cumulative maximum of sixty (60) days’ leave of absence without pay per year for not more than two (2) Employees at the same time provided application for such leave is made in writing to Human Resources. The Employee will endeavour to provide as much advance notice as is possible but not less than ten (10) days prior thereto. In the case of application for leave of absence without pay to attend the Annual Meeting of the Association, the Hospital will allow a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of four (4) Nurses to be absent at the same time provided that no more than two (2) Nurses may be absent from any one area at the same time and provided that the Hospital receives not less than one (1) months’ written notice.
E-2 Upon written application of the Local President an unpaid leave of absence on a date mutually agreed upon on a basis of scheduling and Nurse availability shall be granted to the Local President for three (3) calendar days every two (2) months to be utilized exclusively on Monday to Friday. Such consent shall not be unreasonably withheld. Such unpaid leave will be invisible for purposes of determining premium payments and will not be counted for purposes of determining eligibility for premiums payment.
E-3 The Hospital agrees to grant leaves of absence, without pay, to Nurses elected to the position of Local Co-ordinator. Subject to reasonable notice, it is understood and agreed that a Local Co-ordinator shall be granted such leave(s) as she or he may require fulfilling the duties of the position.
E-4 The Employer shall pay the Bargaining Unit President twenty-two and one half (22.5) hours for a nurse working extended twelve (12) hour tours and fifteen (15) hours for a nurse working regular eight (8) hour tours per every two (2) pay periods for the purposes of conducting union business and attending meetings with the Employer. It is understood that such time will be pre-scheduled at a time mutually agreeable between the Bargaining Unit President and the Employer.
E-5 The Bargaining Unit President will remain on the day tour for the term of office. However, where the Hospital would not be able to fulfill its scheduling obligations under Articles J, K, or L for all other Nurses on a unit due to the above, the hours of work of the President shall be scheduled by Letter of Understanding.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. E-1 Leave of absence for Union business as provided for in Article 11.02 will be granted pursuant to the following provisions:
(a) Adequate notice of at least seven (7) days is given to the Hospital. Where it is not possible for the Union to give seven (7) days notice, excluding weekends, such request shall not be unreasonably denied.
(b) That not more than two (2) employees at any one (1) time and not more than one (1) employee from each department.
(c) That the total number of days in any one (1) calendar year for such leave for all employees not exceed twenty (20) days.
(d) All requests for leaves of absence must be in writing and submitted to the Human Resources Department.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. G.1 In accordance with Article 11.02, leave of absence for Association business shall be given without pay up to an aggregate maximum of forty (40) working days during any calendar year, provided adequate notice is given to the Hospital. It is agreed that no more than two (2) nurses shall be absent on such leave at the same time.
G.2 The Hospital agrees to grant a nurse elected to the position of Local Co-ordinator unpaid time off in accordance with Article 11.02 to attend required meetings, subject to the exigencies of patient care.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. Inclusive of Full-Time and Part-Time
i) not more than six (6) nurses can be absent at any one time, and
ii) subject to staffing requirements. The Bargaining Unit President will request all leaves of absence pertaining to Article 11.02, in writing and submit to Human Resources. Where possible, such requests will be submitted at least two (2) weeks in advance of the date requested.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. F.1 Leave of absence for Association business as provided for in Article 11.02 shall be given for up to an aggregate maximum for all employees of thirty (30) days during the calendar year, provided that two (2) weeks written notice is given to the Hospital. Where less than two weeks notice is given the leave may be approved at the discretion of the Director of Nursing. It is agreed that not more than one (1) employee per unit and not more than two (2) employees shall be absent on such leave at the same time. In the event that a member of the Bargaining Unit is elected as a local coordinator of the Association the number of days shall be increased to sixty (60).
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. D.1 Upon written request, leaves of absence without pay for Association business will be granted and pursuant to the following conditions:
(a) that the nurse must give at least fourteen (14) days clear notice in writing to the Hospital, except in extenuating circumstances;
(b) that not more than five (5) nurses at any one time be allowed such leave, provided that this will involve not more than two (2) nurses from the same duty area of the Hospital;
(c) that the total number of days in one (1) calendar year for such leave for all nurses does not exceed sixty (60) days.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. (LOCAL) E-1 Provided that it does not interfere with the efficient operation of the Department, the Hospital will grant a leave of absence to Association members without pay to attend Association business as follows: the total shall not exceed one hundred and twenty-five days ; no more than six nurses shall be absent at one time;
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. D-1 Leave of absence for Association business shall be given up to an aggregate maximum for all full-time nurses of fifty (50) days during any calendar year, provided adequate notice is given to the Hospital. It is agreed that not more than two (2) full-time nurses shall be absent on such leave at the same time.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE - ASSOCIATION BUSINESS. (a) The Employer shall grant unpaid Leaves of Absence to attend Union business. The aggregate total will be ninety (90) days per year. There shall be no more than three (3) nurses absent at one time. In addition, there shall be the flexibility to provide for one (1) additional nurse to be absent. The Union will give at least fourteen (14) days notice except in extenuating circumstances. Requests for such leave shall be made to the Employer two (2) weeks prior to the date of the leave of absence; however, such requests shall not be unreasonably denied. Cancellation of Association leave of absence for Union business requires 24 hours notice to the Employer if the affected nurse is to be returned to her regular tour of duty. Failure to provide adequate notice to nurses affected by such change will not result in premium penalty to the Employer.
(b) Where requested the Bargaining Unit President will be scheduled on day shifts; if possible. This shall not be unreasonably denied.
