Length of School Year and Day. School Year 1. The calendar adopted by the Board shall not exceed one-hundred eighty-three (183) days. 2. The Board shall have the right and hereby reserves the right to adopt and adjust the calendar to provide for emergencies and make-up days. Furthermore, if the State of Ohio mandates additional teacher days, bargaining unit members shall be compensated additionally at their regular daily rate for up to four (4) days beyond the negotiated school year. In the event that more than four (4) additional days are mandated, the parties agree to reconvene to negotiate compensation. A teacher-day shall be only those days counted as in session and days designated as record days, in-service days and other days by the Board for teacher attendance. 3. A committee consisting of two people appointed by the Superintendent and three LEA members appointed by the Association President shall meet in March each year to construct a school calendar for two (2) years hence. 4. The calendar shall include: a) At least five (5) designated make-up days, which may include Spring Break, President’s Day and days at the end of the year. b) Staff professional development days c) Non-workdays will include a minimum of one (1) fair day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Christmas Vacation, New Year’s Day, Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxx Day, Good Friday, and Memorial Day. 5. The Superintendent shall submit the calendar to all bargaining unit members no later than April 15 of each year. 6. Except in case(s) of emergency when it is necessary to adjust the calendar to provide additional make-up days, the committee designated in Paragraph 3 above shall develop the calendar. If the Board adopts an alternative calendar, the parties shall meet within five (5) working days to negotiate the effects. 7. In case(s) of emergency circumstances, if the Board unilaterally adopts a change in the calendar, the Association reserves its right to negotiate the effects of that change. 8. When schools are closed by the Superintendent or his/her designated representative for inclement weather or other public emergency, the following procedures will be used: a. Bargaining unit members do not have to make up the first five (5) calamity days. b. Length of School Year and Day. A. Each teacher shall have a minimum of 200 minutes of preparation time per week. The Board of Education will minimally schedule each full-time elementary teacher (K-6) with thirty (30) consecutive minutes of planning time each day. For full-time classroom teachers in grades 7-12, the planning time shall consist of five (5) periods per week, each period to be no shorter than a regular class period. A teacher's duty-free lunch period shall not count as planning time. The Building Administrator shall have the ability to unilaterally adjust the school day schedule when necessary to satisfy the requirements of this section. 1. Planning time shall be utilized to perform professional duties, including but not necessarily limited to development of lesson plans, grading papers, assisting pupils, conferences with parents and/or individual conferences with administrators, evaluation conferences, and intervention meetings. Up to six (6) times per year, a bargaining unit member’s planning time may be utilized for Grade Level/Department Meetings, as referenced in Section 12.05, unless release time is given to the bargaining unit member. 2. The length of the school year will be 182 days including two (2) parent-teacher conference days, one (1) in-service day and one (1) preparation day prior to the first student day. Length of School Year and Day. 24.01 Each teacher shall have a thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch period each day. 24.02 The length of the school day in the Xxxxxxx School District shall not exceed seven (7) and a half (1/2) hours inclusive of the thirty (30) minute lunch period. 24.03 Time may be reduced from the original adopted school calendar by the decision of the Superintendent or Board of Education when it is necessary to close the schools due to hazardous weather conditions, law enforcement emergencies, inoperability of school buses or other equipment necessary to the school's operation, damages to a school building, or other temporary circumstances due to utility failure rendering a school building unfit for school use, except that, in no circumstances shall the total number of hours of attendance for students in half day kindergarten be less than 455 hours and full day kindergarten be less than 910 hours, the total number of hours of attendance for students in grades one through six be less than 910 hours, and the total number of hours of attendance for students in grades seven through twelve be less than 1001 hours. 24.04 Subject to the limitations in 24.03, the Board of Education agrees that up to five (5) calamity days per year will be excused without make up for both students and staff. If more than five (5) calamity days are declared by the Superintendent or Board during any single school year, all students and staff will make up those days beyond five (5). The first three make up calamity days will be made up through the use of “blizzard bags” as defined in Ohio Revised Code Section 3313.482(B). Any calamity days needed to be made up after use of three days of “blizzard bags” will be made up at the end of the school year. 24.05 Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Sections 3313.482(C) and 3317.01(B) to reduce the risk that additional hours will have to be added to the end of the school year to make up for hours lost for the reasons set forth in this paragraph, each classroom teacher shall, before November 1 of each year, develop a sufficient number of lessons for each course taught to cover the equivalent of three days of classroom hours and the Board shall cause such lessons to be posted on the website or web portal accessible to students and shall cause such plans to be copied on paper and provided to students in the form of statutory "blizzard bags" pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 3313.482(B). Length of School Year and Day. A. The Board and the Association understand that the BISD calendar needs to closely resemble the days and hours of its constituent districts. The parties agree that the length of the school year will be (1218) twelve hundred eighteen hours in the 2005-06 school year. The Association agrees that there will not be any additional compensation for hours worked until hours exceed 1242 (184 days x 6.75 hours per day). The Board will develop the calendar with consideration given to the local district schedules. The calendar will be provided to the Association and they will be provided an opportunity for input. The Association agrees that as in the past, employees shall continue to serve the needs of students beyond the regularly scheduled hours, and also attend staff meetings, which extend beyond the normal working hours. Exceptions to scheduled working hours may be granted if written requests are submitted and approved by the teacher’s immediate supervisor. Attendance at parent teacher conferences is important and all classroom teaching staff will attend parent teacher conferences on the schedule of the local school district in which their program is housed. Itinerant staff may be excused from parent teacher conferences by their immediate supervisor. A written request will be submitted. Staff excused from parent teacher conferences will work the day after conferences or make up the time within a 2-week period after conferences as approved by immediate supervisor. B. Teachers who are asked and agree to work the additional work days during the summer session shall return a signed contract on or before April 1 of the year for which they will work. Failure to return a signed contract by the deadline shall mean the employee does not want to be hired for the summer session. C. If school is delayed teachers are to report to their work stations at the rescheduled student starting time. If the delayed start becomes an inclement weather day, itinerant employees may either go home or remain at work. Teachers shall follow their local school district’s cancellation and rescheduling policy.

  • Rate of Compensation In lieu of direct compensation for all overtime, shift work and standby (as defined in Articles 16, 17 and 18 of this Agreement), regular full-time employees shall receive a special compensation of 7% of their basic salary earned for each calendar year.
