TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. 18.01 When physically possible and in the light of overall budget requirements, the following teaching environment shall be provided:
a. The Board recognizes the necessity of abiding by state and local codes pertaining to safety and health. It is their intention to provide adequate facilities for each bargaining unit member.
b. Bargaining unit members will be provided with an air conditioned lunch area space separate from students.
c. Available technology may be used by bargaining unit members for preparation of instructional materials. Copying machines and other materials will be available in each school for use in preparing instructional materials.
18.02 Windows and doors shall be kept in proper working order as part of the regular maintenance schedule.
18.03 Classroom interruptions by the public address system are to be permitted only in the case of an emergency or when no other reasonable alternative is possible.
18.04 Not less than one room, appropriately furnished shall be reserved for use as a lounge by bargaining unit members and shall not be designated as an instructional area. Members shall be permitted to have coffee making devices in lounges.
18.05 Adequate telephones within the limit of switchboard capacity and budget for the use of the professional staff will be installed in each building. The telephones will be in private locations.
18.06 Adequate storage facilities in which teachers may store instructional supplies shall be provided in each building.
18.07 The Board shall make available adequate instructional technology for each school.
18.08 Separate, clean, well-lighted faculty restrooms will be provided for men and women in each building.
18.09 Each school will have a workroom for the use of the bargaining unit members containing equipment and supplies necessary to the preparation of instructional materials. Such equipment and supplies would include any materials necessary to normal classroom operation.
18.10 Every effort will be made at all levels of the system to reduce the clerical responsibilities of the members.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. The High School Partner(s) are responsible for designating a classroom and lab space conducive to college-level learning, as required for dual credit courses taught face-to-face at the high school.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. The School District will ensure that the classroom environment is conducive to University level learning by: • Designating a classroom for the dual credit classes; • Displaying signs outside of the classroom that indicate “University Course is in Session”; • Assuring no interruptions take place in the University dual credit class while in session, such as removing students for high school activities, or making announcements except for official business or emergencies. Interruptions for official announcements must be minimized; and • Accepting the faculty member’s attendance requirements as stated in the course syllabus.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. A. The Board and members of the administrative staff will make a reasonable effort to provide a clean, safe, comfortable working environment.
B. Teachers may turn in to the building principal by May 15, a list which includes work they believe should be done over the summer; including equipment to be purchased, repaired or replaced; and cleaning, painting repairs and other maintenance.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. A. Bargaining unit members shall not be required or expected to provide personal property or to purchase instrumental supplies or equipment for school use.
B. The Board agrees that there shall be no unnecessary interruptions of an instructor. Building principals or administrators will attempt to limit classroom interruptions made by announcements.
C. The Board and the Administration desire to do everything in their power to provide the most conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. In keeping with this goal, the Board will make every attempt, within the financial limitation of the school district, to allocate sufficient funds, to provide for the purchase and/or replacement of textbooks, library books, instructional materials, supplies and equipment of sufficient quality and quantity to enable teachers to fulfill their teaching responsibilities in an adequate and professional manner.
D. A bargaining unit member shall have the right to use available equipment and supplies to aid in the preparation of instructional materials in accordance with Administrative policies.
E. All bargaining unit members shall share equally in assigned duties in each building where they are assigned to teach. Lunch, or lunchroom duty, hall duty, bus duty, playground duty, and detention duty shall be assigned to all teachers on an equal basis.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT a. All unit members shall supervise students in the classroom and/or learning centers on a regular basis during instructional time. The Board will provide qualified educational assistants to assist the unit member if it is specified in the student’s IEP. Assignment to the routine supervision of students, i.e., arrival, dismissal, playground, lunchroom, and other non-instructional time, shall be made in an equitable manner for unit members.
b. All unit members shall maintain lesson plans that meet the requirements of the State Department of Education Minimum Standards, if required by their assignment. Unit members shall be solely responsible for developing lesson plans that meet their individual needs and those of the classes and students they teach. Lesson plans shall be submitted to the building principal, upon request. The building principal or supervisor shall have the authority and responsibility to check unit member lesson plans.
c. No unit member shall be required to perform job duties normally performed by the school nurse. However, unit members may be required, after adequate training, to provide accommodations for or assistance to students in accordance with students’ IEP’s, 504 Plans, and in emergency situations. If a unit member has concerns regarding his/her responsibilities, he/she may seek assistance from the principal and/or designee. Also, unit members shall be required to complete any required paperwork in this area and will pass out medication in special circumstances such as field trips.
d. All teachers of record shall use district provided on-line grading programs.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. A. The following facilities will be provided for each member of the bargaining unit:
1. A separate desk, chair, and either a file cabinet or storage cabinet with lockable storage area in the classroom.
2. Lunchroom facilities away from students and a faculty lounge with a telephone for staff use.
3. Separate (men and women) restroom and lavatory facilities not available to students where possible within existing facilities.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. A. All members of the bargaining unit shall turn in a checklist to their building principal at the end of the year indicating items that need to be purchased, replaced, repaired, or in any way need attention. This checklist is for the purpose of making the administration aware of such items in order to promote the maintenance and improvement of equipment and facilities.
B. The building principal will inform all teachers in that building of the amount of money each has available for requisitioning supplies prior to May 1st. On or before May 15 preceding the end of each school year, bargaining unit members may submit requisitions for supplies, materials and/or equipment to the building principal coordinator. The principal will date, and review the requisitions. If the principal needs additional information or does not approve the requisition, he/she will notify the teacher prior to the last teacher work day. All approved requisitions will be submitted to the Superintendent for consideration. A copy of approved purchase orders will be provided to the building principal and teacher.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. 7.1 The school shall insure that the following accommodations are made to teachers in order to insure a satisfactory teaching environment:
A. Teachers shall be provided with safe, healthful, and clean working conditions at all times.
B. Clean, and private restrooms, separate from students' facilities, shall be provided exclusively for the use of all teachers.
C. Proper office equipment and technology including, but not limited to: a copy machine, computer with internet access, printer, fax machine, and scanner shall be available as a shared space that any administrator, teacher, staff, or aide can access anytime during the school day to carry out their professional tasks.
D. Each classroom shall have sufficient instructional board(s) (e.g. chalk, white, bulletin, SmartBoard®) in every classroom to complement the teacher's instruction.
E. A telephone or separate line shall be made available for the use of the teachers. The telephone shall normally be located in the Faculty and staff workroom. If the telephone is not located in this workroom, it shall be located in an area that affords maximum privacy to the teacher.
F. Current textbooks and educational materials to provide tools, support, and enrichment for the teacher's implementation of the Diocesan Graded Courses of Study shall be made available in each school for use by the teachers.
G. Per Diocesan Regulation, class size is limited to 35 students in grades one through twelve and 25 in kindergarten. Specific permission from the Superintendent is required for an exemption from this regulation. In such cases, the superintendent will talk with the principal and pastor and encourage, based on the situation a full or part-time aide be added.
H. All school business must be conducted using the teacher's xxxxxxxxxxx.xxx email account.
TEACHING ENVIRONMENT. A. Bargaining unit members shall not be required or expected to provide personal property or to purchase instructional supplies or equipment for school use.
B. The Board agrees that there shall be no unnecessary interruptions of an instructor. The principal will consult or advise the staff with a monthly calendar of events. The principal shall also notify the staff three (3) days in advance of any change in the daily period/time schedule unless extenuating circumstances make such notice not practical or impossible.
C. The Board and the Administration desire to do everything in their power to provide the most conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. In keeping with this goal, the Board will make every attempt, within the financial limitations of the school district, to allocate sufficient funds, to provide for the purchase and/or replacement of textbooks, library books, instructional materials, supplies and equipment of sufficient quality and quantity to enable teachers to fulfill their teaching responsibilities in an adequate and professional manner.
