Librarianship. The faculty member should be an effective and knowledgeable librarian in their specific position. Library faculty are required to demonstrate that they have met the criteria for effective librarianship as specified in the department/discipline guidelines.
Librarianship. 1. Instruction – Includes but is not limited to the following:
a. Collaborates and teaches with discipline faculty on information literacy instruction/classes.
b. Develops objectives, outlines and materials for information literacy instruction/classes.
c. Participates in the development and/or implementation of LMC assessment processes.
d. Participates in the development and/or use of LMC-related learning tools and objects.
e. Participates in the development and presentation of LMC-related workshops for faculty and staff.
f. Participates in the dissemination of information regarding library resources and services.
g. Staffs the reference desk as needed.
h. Treats all library users with respect and encourages library users to ask questions.
Librarianship. Librarians provide a diversity of resources and services essential to the University. Librarian Members have a right and a responsibility to exercise judgment in carrying out their duties. The professional practice of Librarians includes:
a) Providing reference services;
b) Teaching information literacy;
c) Evaluating, selecting, acquiring, and organizing collections;
d) Providing access to and disseminating information;
e) Administrative responsibilities such as coordinating a service or department within the Library;
f) Creating Library policies and procedures; and
g) Developing professional knowledge and maintaining currency through continuing education and research.
Librarianship. The librarian under consideration should possess expertise and active interest in collection development, organization of knowledge, reference, instruction, systems or information management. Evaluation shall be most strongly weighted on the librarian’s performance of the foregoing functions and how they support the teaching and research mission of the College and its faculty.
Librarianship. IV.2.2.1 Specific and general library duties shall be allocated in a fair, equitable and reasonable manner, taking into consideration the professional responsibilities and skills of individual members, the terms of members' appointments, the relation of librarians' duties to their research, scholarship, and professional activities, the needs of the library and, when possible, the preference of individual members.
IV.2.2.1.1 Library duties and responsibilities will be determined by the University Librarian following reasonable consultation with the Librarians' Committee. Members shall have the right to request reconsideration of their workload by the University Librarian within ten (10) working days of its being assigned and the University Librarian shall be expected to respond in writing within ten (10) working days from receipt. Account shall be taken of the workload guidelines formulated by the Librarians' Committee. None of the factors listed in the guidelines shall be taken to preclude other relevant factors. The University Librarian shall give particular consideration to the goal, agreed to by both parties, of fostering the professional development of members newly entering upon their professional careers.
IV.2.2.1.2 Using the established workload guidelines, the University Librarian, in consultation with the Librarians' Committee, shall determine the normal workload for each librarian employee.
IV.2.2.1.3 When the Library suffers the sudden, unexpected loss of a member, the Vice-President (Academic) may authorize full or partial replacement paying particular attention to the provision of library service.
IV.2.2.1.4 Insofar as resources become available, every reas onable effort shall be made to increase the librarians' complement as this becomes necessary in order to respond to increasing demands on existing library services and resources.

b. Implementation (user/librarian content) - includes but is not limited to the following:
i. Communicates effectively with faculty, students, and staff.
ii. Ensures that library users feel free to ask questions.
iii. Treats library users with respect.
iv. Shows interest in the library.
v. Is consistently well prepared for library tasks.
vi. Uses time well.
vii. Utilizes a variety of methods and materials where appropriate.
viii. Maintains regular working hours.
ix. Is available for consultation, bibliographic instruction, etc., at other times upon request.
c. Collection Department - includes but is not limited to the following:
i. Uses evaluation tools appropriate to the goals and objectives of the library.
ii. Regularly reads evaluation tools and selects materials for the library.
iii. Assists in weeding collections.
