Pay for Unused Sick Leave. Unused sick leave not to exceed 70 days will be paid at the rate of $70 per day when the teacher retires or leaves U.S.D. 506 employment, provided the teacher has a minimum of 10 years of service in U.S.D. 506. Each teacher of U.S.D. 506 shall be issued an activity ticket, which shall be honored at all regular school functions held within the district. Said ticket shall not be honored at basketball tournaments and special events. Said ticket shall be honored for employee, spouse, and children who have not yet graduated from high school. The Board of Education will have an expectation that those teachers in attendance at school functions will assume a reasonable amount of general supervision as needed.

Pay for Unused Sick Leave. Employees terminating service with the District at age fifty-five (55) or older shall receive fifty dollars ($50) per day for each unused sick day above two hundred forty (240). Such payment shall be made one week after the conclusion of the first calendar month following the month in which the employee’s employment was terminated such that the payment will not constitute IMRF earnings (e.g. for an employee terminating employment on June 30, payment shall be paid on the first regularly scheduled payroll in August).

Eligible employees are encouraged to notify the Director of Human Resources as soon as possible that they plan to retire. If an employee submits documentation verifying that exigent circumstances exist that made early notification of retirement plans impossible, such as a sudden illness/injury of the employee or immediate family member necessitating immediate retirement or major changes in assignment, and if the employee meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the District will review and consider this information and may waive any reduction of severance as provided above.

Pay for Unused Sick Leave. It is customary to provide to employees whose employment is severed a sum of money in recognition of their past service. Employees who have stayed on the job despite minor or major illness have not only aided the educational process, but also allowed the district to spend less in the substitute portion of the budget. Such service deserves reward. The Board of Education will pay each full time certified employee, building principal, or central office administrator leaving the district through resignation, retirement, or death, after 5 years of service, the sum of $25.00 per day for all the accumulate sick leave. If the death of an employee occurs before retirement, any designated beneficiary (as stated on KPERS records shall receive the benefit). The payment shall be made within thirty (30) days or one full pay period after completion of the contract or the pay period.

In this instance, the maximum amount of severance pay will not exceed $15,000. 16.3.2.3 If exigent circumstances exist, such as a sudden illness/injury of the employee or immediate family member necessitating immediate retirement, and if the employee meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, he or she will receive a District contribution to the Severance Plan in an amount equal to $125 pay for each day of accrued, unused sick leave up to 164 days.

An employee who retires from the District with less than ten (10) years of service with the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund shall receive thirty-five dollars ($35.00) per day for each unused sick leave day at the time he/she leaves the District. Such payment shall be made after the conclusion of the first calendar month following the month in which the employee’s employment was terminated such that the payment will not constitute IMRF earnings (e.g. for an employee terminating employment on June 30, 2023, payment shall be paid on the first regularly scheduled payroll in August 2023).
