Personal Leave (Unpaid). An unpaid leave may, in the discretion of the District, be granted to a permanent employee for a period not to exceed fifty-two (52) consecutive calendar weeks, except as provided below, for a specific personal reason satisfactory to the District, including but not limited to the following:
a. To be with a member of the immediate family who is ill;
b. To accept an opportunity of a superior character which will result in the employee rendering more effective service on return to the District;
c. To rest, subject to the approval by the District;
d. To remain with spouse if a change of residence is required;
e. To pursue a program of study in residence in an approved institution of higher learning or under a fellowship foundation approved by the State Board of Education;
f. To serve as a State Legislator -- such leave shall be renewed annually during the tenure of office, the above limitation notwithstanding; or
g. To serve in an elective position in the city, county, state, or federal government, other than the State Legislature.
14.1 Applications must be filed with the Personnel Commission and are subject to cancellation in the event of layoff.
Personal Leave (Unpaid). 9.13.1 Leave may be approved at the discretion of the Board of Trustees for reasons not specified under other leave provisions of this Agreement. Applications will be considered for unpaid personal leave on any part-time or full time basis. However, the granting of such leave shall be at the sole discretion of the District.
9.13.2 Advance approval is required. Requests are to be made in writing and submitted to the Superintendent.
9.13.3 One (1) full day's pay shall be deducted from the employee's salary for each day approved.
9.13.4 Leave taken without prior approval shall be considered unauthorized leave.
9.13.5 Members on yearly leave must notify the Superintendent of member's intention to return to the District at the beginning of the school year no later than Feb. 1 of the preceding school year. The District may waive the timeline at its own discretion.
Personal Leave (Unpaid). If an employee has exhausted personal leave under this section, the Superintendent may consider a request for unpaid personal leave in emergency circumstances for urgent personal business that cannot be addressed outside of regular work hours. Such leave shall not be taken without prior approval by the Superintendent or designee in the event that the Superintendent is unavailable.

g. To serve in an elective position in the city, county, state or federal government, other than the State Legislature. Applications must be filed with the Executive Director and are subject to cancellation in the event of layoff.
11.14.1 A one-time unpaid leave not to exceed one (1) school year “may” be granted upon request of a permanent employee for the purpose of completing required post-baccalaureate coursework or training leading to a clear California teaching credential. The employee may be required to provide verification of enrollment in coursework and/or participation in training. The School may terminate the leave authorized under this Section on evidence of the employee’s failure to pursue or accomplish the purpose of such leave.
Personal Leave (Unpaid). 10.9.1 Unpaid leave may be approved at the discretion of the County Superintendent for reasons not specified under other leave provisions of these policies. Leaves of up to one year may be approved by the County Superintendent.
10.9.2 Advance approval is required. Requests are to be made on the appropriate office form in writing detailing reason for request.
10.9.3 One full day's pay shall be deducted from the unit member's salary and insurance benefits for each day of unauthorized leave taken.
10.9.4 Unit members granted such leave may continue Office insurance coverage at their own expense with the approval of the carriers and in compliance with Office procedures for payment.
Personal Leave (Unpaid). Employees may apply for and, where possible, receive up to six (6) months leave of absence without pay, for reasons other than sick leave. Seniority will be retained and will continue to accumulate. Permission for such leave must be obtained from the Employer in writing.

12.15.1 To be with a member of the immediate family who is ill (see Section 9 of this Article for the definition of the immediate family);
12.15.2 To accept an opportunity of a superior character which will result in the employee rendering more effective service on return to ECRA;
12.15.3 To rest, subject to the approval of a physician designated by ECRA;
12.15.4 To accompany spouse, or a cohabitant who is the equivalent of a spouse, when change of residence is required;
12.15.5 To pursue a program of study in residence in an approved institution of higher learning or under a fellowship foundation approved by the State Board of Education;
12.15.6 To serve as a State Legislator--such leave shall be renewed annually during tenure of office, the above limitation notwithstanding;
12.15.7 To serve in an elective position in the city, county, state, or federal government, other than the State Legislature. Applications may be submitted at any time but must be on file in the Human Resources Office by April 15 for Fall semester and November 15 for Spring semester. Paragraphs 12.15.1, 12.5.3 and 12.5.4 above are not subject to these deadlines.
