Specialized Health Care. 10.7.1 The District shall provide necessary in-service training upon request to each unit member who is, or shall be, required to assist or aide children with special health care needs. 10.7.2 The District shall indemnify and hold harmless from liability, arising out of the provisions of specialized health care services, any unit member who performs specialized health care services in the course and scope of his/her employment.

Specialized Health Care. ‌ Definition: Specialized Health Care procedures are specific health care needs identified in a medical protocol that may be performed on a daily basis to ensure the health and well-being of a student. A. The District shall comply with all Education Code and Title V provisions so unit members may work and provide specialized health care in a safe, appropriate environment. B. A plan of treatment (protocol) shall be developed by the student’s doctor for that student if it has been determined that the student needs Specialized Health Care (SHC). The district assigned site school nurse shall develop a plan for the student with the assistance of the site administrator, district personnel, qualified health care personnel, the student’s parent(s), and site personnel. The plan will stipulate the following: 1. The extent of Specialized Health Care (continued/emergency).
Specialized Health Care. 10.3.1 No unit member shall be required to provide unreasonable specialized health care service, other than the dispensing of oral, prescription medications, without his/her consent. Unit members may consent to perform other specialized health care service. 10.3.1.1 The district shall provide each unit member who has consented to provide specialized health care, necessary in-service training upon request. 10.3.2 The district shall comply with all Education Code and Title V provisions in order that unit members providing specialized health care services may do so in a safe, appropriate environment. 10.3.3 The district shall indemnify and hold harmless from liability, as required by law, any unit member who performs specialized health care services. 10.3.4 Unit members performing specialized health care services shall do so only with the expressed authorization from the district, except in an emergency.
Specialized Health Care. 10.8.1 Specialized physical health care services as used in this section include, but are not limited to the following procedures: urinary catheterization, gavage feeding, endotracheal or oral suctioning. These specialized physical health care procedures are further described in the Guidelines and Procedures for Meeting the Specialized Physical Health Care Needs of Students, California Department of Education, 1990.

Specialized Health Care. 6.16.1 Students who need ongoing special health care beyond that which would be considered first aid, dispensing oral medication or inhalers, shall be identified through the IEP process, 504 modification plan or a physician's order. 6.16.2 Such specialized health care procedures may be performed by a classified employee, provided that the employee agrees to perform the service and the employee is compensated with a three percent (3%) stipend from the start of the training to the end of the service. The District shall determine the procedures for selecting the classified employee to perform said duties, and shall determine the number of employees assigned per classroom. 6.16.3 The employee who receives this stipend for toileting a student will be assisting the student with toileting needs, not merely escorting to the restroom. 6.16.4 In all cases, the employee providing the service shall be provided training and will be held harmless from liability by the District as provided by law. If the employee who is assigned toileting duties is absent, another permanent employee in the classroom shall assume the toileting duties during the absence.
Specialized Health Care. The District shall make available to teachers a Health Risk List for returning students and entering Kindergarten students who register prior to school staff leaving for the summer. This list shall be made available to schools prior to the start of school each year, and an updated list provided as soon as reasonably possible after the start of school.

Specialized Health Care. 9.5.1 The District shall provide each unit member, who is or may be required to meet specialized health care needs, in-service training upon request. 9.5.2 Unit members who are assigned a student with specialized health care needs will be provided with appropriate support as identified by the student's individual education plan. In the absence of and until development of an individual education plan, the District will provide emergency and temporary assistance mutually agreeable to the teacher and the District.

These specialized physical health care procedures are further described in the Guidelines and Procedures for Meeting the Specialized Physical Health Care Needs of Students, California Department of Education, 1990. 10.8.2 General Provisions 10.8.3 Prior to being required to perform or assume responsibility for a specialized physical health care procedure, a unit member shall be provided the following: 10.8.3.1 A written statement from the parent/guardian of the pupil requesting that the District provide the specialized physical health care procedure. 10.8.3.2 A written statement from a physician explaining the purpose and method of the procedure. 10.8.3.3 Training in the specialized physical health care procedure provided by the school nurse, public health nurse or licensed physician and surgeon. 10.8.3.4 Written verification that the unit member has received the training necessary to perform the designed procedure(s). 10.8.3.5 Supervision by the school nurse, public health nurse or licensed physician and surgeon. 10.8.3.6 A copy of the specialized physical health care procedure from Guidelines and Procedures for Meeting the Specialized Physical Health Care Needs of Students, California Department of Education, 1990. 10.8.4 lnservice Training 10.8.5 In accord with E. C. § 49423.5, the District shall provide affected unit members training in the following areas: 10.8.5.1 Procedures required to meet the student's specialized physical health care needs. 10.8.5.2 Cardiopulmonary resuscitation 10.8.5.3 Community emergency resources 10.8.6 Medication Administration in the School 10.8.7 All unit members shall be informed of procedures regarding the administration of prescription or other medications to students.
Specialized Health Care. 15.6.1 The District shall notify unit members concerning special emotional and/or health problems of their students. 15.6.2 The District shall provide in-service training to unit members, if needed, to provide for students' special health and/or emotional problems.
