Working in Higher Classification. If any part of the workday is worked in a classification higher than the classification under which the employee is called for work, the higher rate shall prevail for the entire workday. The employee reverts to his regular classification on the following day unless notified to the contrary. However, the provisions of this Paragraph do not apply unless the employee is assigned to work in the higher classification for two (2) hours or more.
Working in Higher Classification. The Department Heads will work all employees within their career classification. The departments may assign an employee to work temporarily in a higher classification. Such assignments shall be in writing and shall indicate the reasons, length and duties of the assignment. Assignments over one week shall be approved in advance by the City Manager, Director of Library Services, or their designees. To be eligible for temporary assignment to a higher classification, the employee must work a minimum of one day, meet all of the minimum qualifications, and perform the duties of the higher classification. Employees meeting these requirements will be compensated at the lowest step of the higher classification which provides at least a five percent (5%) increase in salary. Excluded from this provision are all employees whose job classifications regularly include assuming administrative and/or supervisory responsibilities in the absence of another, e.g. Assistant Department Heads.
Working in Higher Classification. If (1) an employee is temporarily assigned and assumes the full duties and responsibilities of a separate classification for at least two hours, and if (2) that classification carries a rate of pay higher than the employee’s regular rate of pay, and if (3) the employee has not already been assigned a secondary classification for the work assignment, then the employee shall be compensated thirty- five cents ($.35) per hour above his or her current rate or the rate at the low end of the higher classification’s wage range, whichever is greater. While an employee is being oriented on a job in a higher classification and another employee is on the job, the employee being oriented shall receive his or her regular rate of pay. The orientation period during which the employee shall be paid the regular rate of pay shall not normally exceed five (5) days.
Working in Higher Classification. Unit members who are temporarily assigned the responsibility of a higher classification in the bargaining unit for six or more consecutive working days shall receive the beginning rate of the higher classification retroactively to the first day; or if this does not provide a salary increase, he/she shall be placed on the step which will guarantee a minimum of a five (5) percent salary increase during that period of time. This increase is paid only when the replacement employee is actually working in the higher classification.
Working in Higher Classification. Departments with prior approval from the City Manager or City Manager’s designee, may assign an employee to work in a higher class provided the employee meets the minimum qualifications for the assignment. Such assignments shall be in writing and shall indicate the reasons, length and duties of the assignment. To be eligible for higher-class pay, the employee must meet the minimum qualifications and perform a majority of the duties of the higher class to qualify. Employees shall be compensated for higher class pay on an hour-for-hour basis. An approved annual blanket authorization must be on file for any employee who is so assigned. Employees meeting these requirements will be compensated at the lowest step of the higher classification that provides at least a five percent (5%) differential for the time worked.
Working in Higher Classification. The Employer and the Union agree that the following procedure will apply when an employee is working in a higher classification. Employees performing in a higher classification for one hour or more in any one day will receive the rate of pay of the higher classification for the number of hours worked in the higher classification. An employee performing work in a lower classification will not suffer any reduction in pay.
Working in Higher Classification. 13.1 When an employee is assigned to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a position in a classification higher than his/her own for a continuous period of more than four (4) days, he/she shall be paid at the next higher rate of pay according to promotional policy for all time worked in excess of four days at the higher classification.
13.2 Notwithstanding the provision of Section 13.1, when a Deputy Sheriff employee is assigned to plain clothes narcotics enforcement team and his/her duties and responsibilities are in the classification higher than his/her own, i.e., Senior Deputy or Detective, the employee shall be paid at his/her regular rate and not at a higher rate of pay. If a Deputy Sheriff is assigned to the plain clothes narcotics team for a period in excess of a cumulative total of one year, he/she will be compensated at an additional 5 percent thereafter for the duration of such assignment.
13.3 However, for training purposes, the Sheriff may assign an employee once in a five (5) year period to a higher, nonsupervisory classification for a maximum of six months with the consent of the employee. When the assignment is made for training purposes, it is exempt from the higher classification pay unless the employee is in the same assignment after the conclusion of or prior to the training assignment. Employees may not be assigned to a higher classification for training purposes when a vacancy exists in the class.

Working in Higher Classification. The District agrees to pay each employee for time worked at a higher classification as assigned at the Base Wage of pay for that classification. The District shall attempt to appoint lower-ranking employees to relieve higher classifications when a higher-ranking employee is absent from duty. Relief positions are determined in Section 2.06 of this Agreement. Except as otherwise specifically agreed between the District and the Union, the District further agrees to pay an employee according to the Base Wage of pay for his classification, even if working at a lower classification, for all duty hours. If an employee is called away from his regular work duties to assist in a capacity of a higher classification, the employee shall be paid in the higher classification.
