Bereavement Leave/Compassionate Leave. In the event of a death in the immediate family of an employee, the Employer shall grant up to three (3) days leave of absence with pay at the employee’s normal straight time rate where the employee was scheduled to work. Employees shall be permitted two (2) additional days off for compassionate purposes. The additional days shall be unpaid.

Bereavement Leave/Compassionate Leave. 32.01 In the event of the death of a member of the employee’s immediate family, an employee shall be entitled to up to five (5) scheduled shifts of leave of absence with pay, so that in combination with scheduled days of rest, the employee shall have a minimum of seven (7) consecutive days away from the workplace, immediately following the day of the death. If the funeral is five hundred (500) kilometers or more from the employee’s home, for the purpose of travelling, the employee shall have a minimum of nine (9) consecutive days away from the workplace. 32.02 Notwithstanding the provisions of 32.01 above, an employee may defer a portion of the paid bereavement leave for the purposes of attending a funeral, memorial, or other related service, upon written request to the Chief of Police. 32.03 For the purpose of Articles 32.01 and 32.02, immediate family is defined as the employee’s spouse, common-law spouse, same-sex spouse, mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son, daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, step-son, step-daughter, brother, sister, step- brother, step-sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, xxxx, guardians, step- grandparents, step-grandchildren, grandchildren and the grandparents of the employee and spouse and any other person with whom the employee permanently resides. 32.04 An employee shall be entitled to one (1) day of leave of absence with pay in the event of the death of an aunt, uncle, first cousin, niece or nephew of the employee or spouse. If the funeral is five hundred (500) kilometers or more from the employee’s home, for the purpose of travelling, the employee shall have a minimum of three (3) consecutive days away from the workplace. 32.05 An employee may request in writing additional paid leave for necessary travelling time and/or for observance of First Nations bereavement customs, and such request shall not be unreasonably denied. 32.06 Bereavement leave will not be pro-rated for an employee in a compressed work week arrangement.
Bereavement Leave/Compassionate Leave. A full­time weekly employee is entitled to use up to 2 days personal leave as bereavement leave for each occasion where a family member, as defined in Part B of this Agreement, has passed away. The company will provide an extra two days (total 4) of personal leave if requested by the employee. Bereavement Leave/Compassionate Leave. 16.5.1 In accordance with the NES, Employees (including casual Employees) are entitled to 3 days' compassionate leave for each occasion when: a) a member of their Immediate Family or a member of their household: I) contracts or develops a personal illness that poses a serious threat to his or her life; or XX) sustains a personal injury that poses a serious threat to his or her life; or III) dies; or b) a child is still born, where the child would have been a member of the Employee's Immediate Family, or a member of the Employee's household, if the child had been born alive; or c) the Employee, or the Employee’s spouse or de facto spouse, has a miscarriage. 16.5.2 Full-time and part-time Employees are entitled to compassionate leave without loss of pay. Compassionate leave is unpaid for casual Employees.
Bereavement Leave/Compassionate Leave. Type 1) a) Xxxxxxxxxxx leave shall be granted without loss of pay or sick leave credits for the funeral of an employee’s father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, common law or same sex partner, child, guardian, father-in- law, mother-in-law, grandparents of employee or spouse, brother- in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or grandchild. b) Upon request, Bereavement Leave for those situations covered in Article 22.2 (a) will be granted as follows: i) a maximum of three (3) working days to attend a funeral within a distance of 150 kilometres of the employee’s principle residence; Notwithstanding the above, when a death occurs in the employee’s immediate family (father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, common law or same sex partner, child or guardian), the employee may be granted an additional two (2) days upon request to the Manager of Human Resources. ii) a maximum of five (5) working days to attend a funeral at a distance greater than 150 kilometres.

In the unfortunate circumstances where a member of your immediate family or household passes away (including circumstances where you or your spouse experience a miscarriage that occurs between 12 to 20 weeks of pregnancy), Optus Retail will provide full time and part time employees up to 5 days of paid bereavement leave (inclusive of any NES entitlement). You may be requested to provide evidence to support your absence in accordance with Optus Retail’s policy. 41.2. For full time and part time employees, Optus Retail will approve all reasonable requests for paid compassionate leave of 2 days on the occasion of a member of your immediate family or household contracting or developing a personal illness or sustaining a personal injury, where either situation poses a serious threat to their life. Paid compassionate leave of 2 days will also apply if you or your spouse has a miscarriage before 12 weeks of pregnancy or where a child is stillborn (as defined by NES) and would have been a member of your immediate family or a member of your household. Paid leave beyond 2 days may be approved on a case by case basis. Applications for extended unpaid compassionate leave may also be considered. 41.3. For the purposes of this Agreement, ‘immediate family’ shall include; (a) a member of the employee's household; (b) a spouse (including a former spouse, a de facto spouse and a former de facto spouse) of the employee. A de facto spouse means a person of the opposite, or same sex, who lives with the employee as husband, wife, or same sex partner, on a bona fide domestic basis although not legally married to the employee; (c) a child, adult child (including an adopted child, a stepchild, a xxxxxx child or an ex- nuptial child), parent (including xxxxxx parent and step parent), parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sibling of the employee or of the spouse of the employee; and (d) for Indigenous employees, this extends to kinship.
