Declared Holidays. Every day declared by the President, the Governor, the County Superintendent, or the Governing Board as a day of public fast, thanksgiving, or holiday and requiring the closing of the facilities, shall be additional holidays provided that the President, or the Governor also makes such dates paid holidays for federal or state employees.

When the employee is not required to work, the Company shall grant to the employee one (1) day's pay equal to eight (8) hours at his regular rate. When the full-time or part-time employee is required to work on their Anniversary Day, Civic Holiday, Boxing Day and Christmas Eve and Remembrance Day, he will be paid one (1) day's pay eight (8) hours plus the hours worked, subject to Article 18.04. When the full time or part time employee is required to work on the Civic Holiday, Boxing Day, Christmas Eve and Remembrance Day, he will be paid one (1) day’s pay eight (8) hours plus the hours worked, subject to Article 18.04. When the full time or part time employee is required to work on his Anniversary Day he will be paid for the hours worked, subject to Article 18.04 and he will be entitled to another day off in the month in which his Anniversary Day occurs and said day will be scheduled with the agreement of his Department Head and such agreement shall not be unreasonably withheld. When an full time or part time employee is required to work on New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Victoria day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, he will be paid eight (8) hours plus time and one-half for the hours work performed that given day. When the holidays occur during the employee's vacation, the employee shall be entitled to one (1) extra day's pay, or one (1) extra day vacation at his choice. In order to qualify for holiday pay, the employee must satisfy the eligibility requirements set out in the Employment Standards Act (2000). Subject to the foregoing, an employee who is laid off will receive any declared holidays which occur within ten (10) days of the day of lay- off, except for those holidays which fall in December when eligibility shall be within seven (7) days of lay-off.

Those employees who are employed as Fire Prevention, Training or Emergency Planning personnel are entitled to a holiday with pay on the following Statutory Holidays: New Year's Day, B.C. 23.02 Each employee shall receive his/her average daily earnings for each of the above named holidays which will be calculated by totalling the amount of the employee’s gross wages in the previous two (2) completed pay periods and dividing that total by twenty (20).
a) Day Staff required to work on any of the above-named holidays shall be paid at the rate of time and one-half (1.5x) his/her regular straight time hourly rate for the first eight (8) hours so worked and double time (2x) thereafter, in addition to his/her statutory holiday pay in accordance with Article 23.02.
b) Callers required to work on any of the above-named holidays shall be paid at the rate of time and one-half (1.5x) his/her regular straight time hourly rate in addition to his/her statutory holiday pay in accordance with Article 23.02.
c) It is agreed that statutory holidays are included as hours worked for the purposes of calculating overtime pay for Day Staff only and for seniority, benefits and sick days eligibility for all employees under this Agreement.

An employee required to work on any of the above named holidays shall be paid at the rate of time and one-half his regular straight time hourly rate in addition to his holiday pay. An employee shall be paid for the holiday provid- ed he works his first scheduled shift prior to the holiday, unless the employee was unable to work because of proven illness or accident, leave of absence or layoff, and such absence or layoff began not more than ten working days prior to the holiday. In the event that one or more of the above named holidays occurs during the employee’s vacation, he shall be paid for the holiday in addition to his vacation pay, and be given an extra day off either at the begin- ning of his vacation period or at the end of it.
