Leave for Public Duties. The Employer recognizes the rights of employees to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Employer will grant leave of absence without loss of seniority and without pay so that employees may be candidates in a Federal, Provincial, or Municipal election.

Upon request to the Secretary-Treasurer, an employee shall be granted leave of absence without pay to allow that employee to stand as a candidate in federal, provincial or municipal elections. An employee who is elected to federal or provincial office shall, upon request, be granted leave of absence without pay and without seniority accumulation during the term of office. An employee who is elected to municipal office may be allowed leave of absence without pay during the term of office. Such leaves shall not be unreasonably withheld.

Upon written request to the Chief Administrative Officer, an employee shall be granted up to three months leave of absence without pay to be a candidate for a full time office as an MP or MLA. On being elected, and upon written request to the Chief Administrative Officer, the employee shall be granted an indefinite leave of absence without pay or benefits for a period of up to five years or until a subsequent election is held - whichever period is longer.
Leave for Public Duties. When elected to federal or provincial office the Employer will grant a leave of absence without pay, and without loss of existing seniority for one (1) term of office. One further extension of one (1) term may be granted on written application.

Benefits may be maintained at full employee cost and the employee may return to the first job available for which he/she is qualified.

(a) Subject to mutual agreement between the Employer and the Union, the Employer may, upon receipt of a written request, grant a leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority to a maximum of eight (8) weeks, so that an employee may be a candidate in federal, provincial or municipal elections.

Therefore, upon written request, the City will grant leave of absence without loss of seniority but without pay so that employees, where eligible, may be candidates in a federal, provincial or municipal election. Any employee who is elected to public office shall be granted by the City leave of absence without loss of seniority, but without pay, for a period of up to one year. Such leave shall be renewed each year, on request, during his or her term of office.

Upon written request, the Employer shall consider unpaid leave of absence up to a maximum of 12 months so that the employee may be a candidate in federal, provincial or municipal elections. The Employee shall be granted the option of continuing insured benefits coverage at his/her cost.
Leave for Public Duties a) The Employer shall grant a leave of absence without pay, for up to eight (8) weeks, to an Employee campaigning for Federal, Provincial or Municipal office. The Employee shall provide twenty (20) calendar days written notice unless the need for leave could not be reasonably foreseen. If a full time leave of absence is not required, the Employee shall provide the Employer with the dates required at the time they submit their written notice of leave. Should unanticipated dates subsequently arise, the Employee shall provide reasonable notice to the Employer.
Leave for Public Duties to engage in the election campaign. If elected, the employee shall be granted leave of absence in accordance with Clause 20.5(b). If not elected, the employee shall be allowed to return to their former position.
