Secondary Seniority. (a) Secondary Seniority shall be recognized once a temporary employee works a total of 60 shifts within a six month period. (b) For the purposes of this Article, a shift is defined as any day on which an employee has worked. For the purposes of this part, a day worked will also include any day on which hours are paid. (c) Secondary Seniority shall be used for the purposes of job postings and assignment of temporary work. (d) For the purpose of filling posted positions, an employee who has secondary seniority or who is on the temporary call-in list shall be considered after continuing employees and prior to external applicants. (e) An employee who has secondary seniority shall be offered temporary work by seniority providing the employee is qualified for the assignment. In the event that the employee is working when an assignment arises the employee shall complete the current temporary assignment before any reassignment. (f) Secondary Seniority shall be calculated twice yearly as of the closest pay ending date to May 1 and November 1. (g) The Board will provide a secondary seniority listing of temporary employees by total shifts worked to the Secretary of the Union by May 30 and November 30 each year. The listing will also show the total accrued hours for the purposes of benefits outlined in Article 1.03. (h) Temporary employees shall lose their secondary seniority in the event: 1) They resign. 2) They are discharged and not reinstated. 3) They fail to respond to eight (8) call-ins within a twelve (12) month period. An employee who is unavailable for call-in shall notify the Board in advance in writing of those periods except in cases of emergencies. The employer agrees to notify an employee in writing once the employee fails to respond to seven (7) call-ins.

Secondary Seniority. Casual employees shall accumulate seniority within the casual employee ranks. This seniority will only be used when comparing one (1) casual employee to another casual employee when applying for a position within the Board and, with effect from date of award for shift assignment. Casual employees shall have the right to apply for posted regular and temporary positions. A casual employee who is successful in obtaining a permanent position shall have their accumulated seniority credited retroactively once the employee has passed a probationary period in a permanent position. a) Effective June 13, 2001 casual employees shall gain bidding rights upon completion of sixty (60) shifts in any six month period. For the initial implementation of this clause, the total number of shifts worked since December 1, 2000 will be used. Effective the date of ratification of the 2019-2022 Collective Agreement, it is understood that secondary seniority shall not be interrupted by the Summer Break. b) Upon attaining bidding rights, casual employees shall be able to use their seniority in applying for posted positions. Such seniority may be used after regular employees have been considered and before non- senior and outside applicants. Seniority will be the determining factor between relatively equal applicants for the purpose of this clause only. c) Casual employees who have not attained bidding rights may apply for posted positions and will be considered as outside applicants. (b) Secondary seniority shall be recognized once an employee has worked forty-five (45) shifts within any twelve (12) month period. (c) Secondary seniority shall be for the purpose of applying for a regular or temporary position (via posting) and for the purpose of shift assignment. (d) For the purpose of filling temporary or regular positions, an employee who applies for such a position shall be considered for a temporary or regular position after regular employees and prior to outside applicants. (e) Once a temporary or casual employee has a regular position and passed the applicable probationary period the employee’s total seniority shall be applied retroactively to their hire date as a regular employee plus forty- five (45) working days. (f) Employees who have recognized secondary seniority shall be offered short-term work for which they are qualified on the basis of their secondary seniority. (g) An employee shall only lose seniority in the event: (1) The employee fails to respond to five (5) consecutive call-ins or call- outs. Casual and temporary employees shall not lose seniority if they are unable to work due to extenuating circumstances. (2) The employee is discharged for just cause and is not reinstated. (3) The employee self terminates their employment. (4) The employee has not worked for a period longer than twelve (12) months.
Secondary Seniority. Upon attaining a regular, school term or temporary position a casual employee shall be credited with all time worked as a temporary and casual employee in the previous twelve (12) months.

No employee shall earn more than one (1) day of secondary seniority in any day worked. (b) Secondary seniority shall be recognized once an employee has worked forty-five (45) shifts within any twelve (12) month period. (c) Secondary seniority shall be for the purpose of applying for a regular or temporary position (via posting) and for the purpose of assignment of work. (d) For the purpose of filling temporary or regular positions, a qualified employee who has secondary seniority and who applies for such a position shall be considered for a temporary or a regular position after regular employees and prior to outside applicants. (e) Employees who have recognized secondary seniority shall be offered short-term work for which they are qualified on a rotational basis. In the event an employee with secondary seniority is working in a temporary assignment, the employee shall complete the temporary assignment before being eligible for appointment to a subsequent temporary assignment except by mutual agreement between the parties. All employees may apply for a permanent position at any time. (f) Once a temporary or casual employee has attained a regular position and passed the applicable probationary period the employee’s total seniority shall be applied retroactively. Once an individual on the secondary seniority list attains a regular position their seniority date will be calculated on the basis of the number of shifts worked on the secondary list counted back from the date the regular position commences.

Secondary Seniority. Secondary seniority shall operate as follows: (a) Secondary seniority shall be recognized once a posted casual or temporary employee works a total of eighty (80) shifts during any July 1 to June 30 period, to be effective the following September 30 when the seniority list is sent to the Union and posted on all bulletin boards in accordance with Article 15.06(h). (b) Casuals and temporary employees who are in posted casual or temporary positions on the date of ratification of this collective agreement, shall have their existing seniority recognized as secondary seniority and shall not be required to fulfill the requirements of (a) above. (c) For the purposes of calculating the secondary seniority of an employee, the total number of shifts worked since July 1, 2000 shall be used. (d) A shift shall be defined as any day in which an employee has worked. (e) For the purposes of filling posted regular or temporary positions, an employee with the required qualifications, ability and skills, who has secondary seniority, and who applies for such position within the bargaining unit, shall be considered for the posted position after regular employees, and prior to outside applicants. (f) For the purposes of call-out, an employee who has secondary seniority shall be called out by seniority on a department basis. In the event an employee is working when such call-out arises, the employee shall complete the current assignment before any new assignment. (g) Secondary seniority shall be lost in the event the employee fails to respond to eight (8) call-outs within a twelve- (12) month period. It is understood that an employee who is unavailable for call-out shall notify the Board in advance in writing except in cases of emergency. (h) The Board shall maintain a secondary seniority list for all casual and temporary employees who have attained secondary seniority status in accordance with Article 15.06(a) showing: i. Name ii. Seniority based on total accumulated shifts worked
Secondary Seniority. (a) After working sixty (60) shifts in a twelve (12) month period, temporary and casual employees shall accumulate seniority for each shift worked. For the purposes of secondary seniority, shift will be defined as any day for which an employee has received wages for time worked. (b) Secondary seniority shall be used for applying for a posted position. An employee who has secondary seniority and who applies for a posted position shall be considered after regular employees and prior to outside applicants. (a) The Employer shall maintain a seniority list for regular employees showing the current classification and the date upon which each employee commenced service. (b) The Employer shall maintain a secondary seniority list for temporary and casual employees showing the amount of shifts worked effective December 31, of each year. (c) Up-to-date seniority lists shall be sent to the Union in January of each year.
Secondary Seniority. The implementation date for secondary seniority shall be October 1, 2000. For the purpose of implementing the article, the number of hours worked by temporary staff will be credited retroactive to May 1, 1996.
