Merit Step Increases. The pay plan provides for several merit pay steps of approximately 5% within the pay range for each classification. Each employee may advance from the pay step at the beginning of their salary range to the pay step at the top of the salary range for their classification on the basis of supervisory evaluations of job performance. Article 25 (Performance Evaluations) of this Memorandum of Understanding lists the performance evaluation schedule for new employees. Supervisors shall evaluate employee performance according to a procedure determined unilaterally by the City and published as a provision of the Personnel Rules or Administrative Manual The employee shall be granted a pay step advancement (approximately 5%) with each successful EMPLOYEE JOB PERFORMANCE EVALUATION that certifies that the employee meets job performance standards and expectations. However, such pay step advancements shall not exceed the top of the pay range for the employee’s classification.

Merit Step Increases. Employees who are promoted within ninety (90) days prior to their merit date will be granted an additional salary step increase beyond what is normally provided by Personnel Rule 11.6. Such additional step may be denied for reasonable cause; including the employee being hired, promoted or receiving extraordinary step increases within the previous twelve (12) months, etc. In addition to the provisions of Personnel Rule 11.6 (Merit Advancement within Range), the following shall apply to all employees: The appointing authority may grant out of sequence step advancements up to a maximum of two steps for an employee in a specific classification.
Merit Step Increases. Step increases approved by the City Council for employees not at the top of their pay range shall take effect on the pay anniversary date of each employee affected unless the department head and/or Mayor certifies that the employee's work performance or conduct does not justify granting such increase. Anniversary date salary increases will be given to all eligible employees unless the employee's work performance or conduct report indicates otherwise.
Merit Step Increases. Upon the completion of six (6) months of actual initial or promotional probationary service and after receiving a satisfactory performance evaluation, eligible full-time employees who were initially appointed to the “Step A” of the salary range in effect for the class to which appointed will be granted a merit increase to the next higher step in the pay range. Employees who are at the “Step B” of the salary range or higher shall receive a merit increase to the next higher step until the top step of the pay range each twelve (12) months of actual service after receiving a satisfactory performance evaluation. Regular part-time employees shall be entitled to merit increases after receiving a satisfactory performance evaluation upon completion of not less than twelve (12) months of actual service in each step of the range. An employee shall not receive a merit increase beyond the maximum step established for the job classification. Merit increases shall be effective on the first pay period following the anniversary date (i.e., six (6) months after the initial appointment to the classification at Step A and every twelve (12) months after that), regardless of the date of evaluation.

A Compensation Committee consisting of the Administrator and all Department Heads with White Collar Personnel will consider all recommended personnel annually. The Compensation Committee decision will be based upon the following criteria: annual evaluation, letters and commendations and any other pertinent material. A decision will be made by the Compensation Committee to grant five (5) recommended employees a merit increase to base salary of five percent (5%), capped at Two Thousand Five Hundred ($2,500.00) per employee, effective January 1 of the next year. 3. Those recommended employees will automatically receive the merit increase. 4. Decisions of the Compensation Committee shall not be able to be grieved. 5. Nothing in the plan prohibits the Township Committee from awarding additional merit increases, based upon Department Head, Compensation Committee and/or Township Administrator recommendations. 6. Employees who believe they are unfairly passed over for recommendation by their Department Head will be entitled to a hearing with the Township Administrator, in a process mutually agreed upon by the Union Executive Committee and the Township Administrator to seek recommendation for consideration by the Compensation Committee. 7. Merit Step Increases. Each bargaining unit employee, whose performance is “standard or better” shall receive a merit increase equal to one step after each anniversary of continuous service with the County, until the employee reaches Step 8 within their grade. Promotion to Step 9 or Step 10 is at the discretion of the District Attorney or Public Defender. Promotion between grades within the Deputy District Attorney or Deputy Public Defender class series shall not alter an employee’s anniversary date.

Merit Step Increases. 4 (A) All employees with satisfactory performance shall advance to the next available step (A thru E) of the 5 salary schedule on the anniversary of their hire date, most recent Step Increase, or LGPI Grade Increase 6 (Salary Eligibility Date). In the event, the City fails to provide the employee with an evaluation, no later 7 than 30 days after the anniversary date; the employee shall advance to the next Step at the appropriate 8 anniversary date.
