Other Special Leave. 6.11.1 The employer may, where there are special circumstances, grant discretionary leave with or without pay to any employee during periods when the school is officially open for instruction, provided that such leave does not unreasonably impinge upon the operational requirements of the school.
6.11.2 Before approving any discretionary leave, the employer shall ensure that the granting of such leave complies with any funding arrangements applying to the school in respect of such leave.

Other Special Leave. Xxxxx’x may agree with an Employee to provide pay time off for any other situations beyond the control of the Employee. Such leave and its duration will be decided on the merits of the situation, the leave history and performance of the employee.
Other Special Leave. 5.7.1 The School may, where reasonable cause exists, grant to an employee other special leave with or without pay according to the Guiding Principles contained in School policy H4.10 Special leave, for any period and upon such conditions as are mutually agreed with the employee.
5.7.2 Special leave granted under clause 5.7.1 is in addition to any other leave to which an employee is entitled under this Part of the Agreement
5.7.3 Leave without pay will be approved subject to the leave not impacting or having minimal impact on the work obligations of the employee, and alternate personnel being engaged or arranged with reasonable ease or without significant impact on that other employee(s) work obligations.
5.7.4 Leave without pay will not be taken into account in calculating the period of service for any purpose nor for calculating long service leave. However, absence through leave without pay will not break continuity of service.
5.7.5 Employees on extended special leave of a duration defined in Table 2 in clause 5.7.6 shall give notice to the School regarding their intention to return to duty or to request further leave of any type as defined in that table.

5.7.7 When an employee is granted leave without pay up to a period of 5 weeks, they will be entitled to receive payment for public holidays if a public holiday falls in that period that they are on leave and they would normally work that day. When an employee is on leave without pay for longer than 5 weeks, public holidays will not be paid.
Other Special Leave. (a) Special leave with pay shall be granted (i) for medical, dental, optometrist, chiropractor appointments, parent/teacher interviews and taking immediate family members to medical and dental appointments, when it is not possible for the employee to arrange such appointment outside their normal hours of work;
Other Special Leave. Employees are entitled to paid leave in relation to the following other unforeseen emergency situations or special circumstances:
a. jury service;
b. attendance as a witness at proceedings on behalf of the Commonwealth or State/Territory Government;
c. household emergencies, moving house; or
d. attendance for special religious, ceremonial or cultural obligations.

Other Special Leave. (a) Special leave with pay shall be granted
(i) for periods of up to a maximum of one-half (½) day for medical, dental, optometrist and chiropractor appointments, parent/teacher interviews and taking immediate family members to medical and dental appointments, when it is not possible for the employee to arrange such appointment outside their normal hours of work;
(ii) with respect to (i) above, where an employee is required to travel to Whitehorse for a medical, dental, optometrist or chiropractor appointment, when it is not possible for the employee to seek treatment or an appointment in their headquarters area, the employee may be granted special leave up to a maximum of two (2) days for travel purposes;
(iii) to an employee required to travel outside Yukon for a Department of Veteran Affairs medical (DVA) to a maximum of two (2) days per year;
(iv) to an employee on, the occasion of the birth of his or her child up to a maximum of one (1) day; the one (1) day may be taken within thirty (30) days of the birth of the child; and
Other Special Leave. The Employer may grant an employee special leave for other purposes of a special or unusual nature. Employees may be granted special leave with pay to a maximum of one-half (½) day per occurrence where the employee’s physician requires him to attend regular or recurring medical treatments and checkups. Such other special leave shall not be unreasonably denied.

A decision to grant or not grant leave may take a number of factors into account, including the effect that the granting of leave might have on the School/College, the need for consistency and the particular circumstances of the case. When leave is granted, the employer and not the staff member shall be solely responsible for the employment and salary of the substitute employee.
