Outreach and Recruitment. 1) Recruitment for the camps will commence immediately upon notification of the grant award. Director Gee will contact San Xxxxxx Independent School District (SAISD) Central Office with information about the coding camps. We will request the information be shared with district middle school principals to share with middle school students who will be entering 6th through 8th grade for the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, SAISD uses an electronic notification service to send parents information about anything happening at their district. The name of this service is PeachTree, and they have in the past allowed ASU to use this service free of charge to notify parents of the camps. A request will be made for use of this service for this grant. Working through existing relationships with area school districts, Gee will also contact rural area elementary and middle school principals directly on campuses within a 60-mile radius of San Xxxxxx. These principals will be asked to provide information about the coding camps with a request that the information be shared with current-year 5th, 6th and 7th grade students. This information will include a presentation on the focus of the camps, dates, locations, and eligible students. Means of contact with school district administrators will include email, telephone, mail, and face-to-face meetings, if possible. Information will also be shared through local media such as messages to the local Region 15 Education Service Center. Direct public outreach and recruitment will be conducted through press releases to local media outlets such as KSAN and KLST (the local NBC and CBS stations), posts on social media platforms, flyers at public spaces such as libraries, and an email list through the Xxx Xxxxx County Library. Promotional materials will include a website housed on the ASU Teacher Education webpage, along with flyers.
