Use of Sick Leave Days. Under the conditions of the sick leave provisions, all officers in the bargaining unit may use their sick leave days for absences due to the physical condition of an officer caused by illness, injury or pregnancy in any month of the year that he/she is scheduled on the payroll. Sick leave can be used in units of one-half (1/2) hour or more. Accrued sick leave may be used as “sick-family” to attend to members of the immediate family who are ill or injured. Additional bereavement leave, not to exceed two (2) additional days, may be requested of the chief, or designee, in order to accommodate an employee’s travel arrangements to attend a funeral. For purposes of this article, immediate family shall be defined to include an employee’s spouse, children or other resident dependents.

Use of Sick Leave Days. Immediate Family Sick leave shall be granted when a member of the immediate family of the employee requires the care and attend of the employee due to illness or injury. Immediate family for this purpose is defined as: spouse, children, parents, grandparents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother or sister. In the case of the care or attention for convalescent purposes, a corroborating statement of the need for such care may be requested by the Board from the physician of the immediate family member. The call in on sick leave will specify the specific reason for the sick leave and will be followed by a written statement of explanation upon return in this instance. The Board may request medical verification pertaining to the usage of sick leave in the event such absence exceeds two (2) working days. Xxxxxx Public Schools will comply with the provisions of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
Use of Sick Leave Days. As authorized in the School Code, sick leave days may be used for personal illness, mental or behavioral complications, quarantine at home, serious illness or death in the immediate family or household, or birth, adoption, or placement for adoption. “Immediate family” shall mean the employee’s parents, spouse, brothers, sisters, children, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, parents-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and legal guardians. The District maintains the right to investigate suspected inappropriate use and/or abuse of sick leave (including, but not limited to, a pattern of absences immediately before/after the weekend and immediately before/after holidays or school breaks) and, if appropriate, issue progressive discipline. Pursuant to the Illinois School Code, the employee may use up to thirty (30) accumulated sick leave days because of the birth of a child without submitting medical certification. These thirty (30) days must be used consecutively when used for birth except that the right to use such days will not be diminished by intervening breaks (winter/spring/summer recess) or holidays. If an employee is on FMLA leave because of the birth of a child, the employee must first use his/her accumulated thirty (30) sick leave days per the School Code for the first thirty (30) workdays of the FMLA leave and then the remainder of the FMLA leave will be unpaid unless the employee can submit medical certification justifying continued use of accumulated sick leave. For use of paid sick leave or adoption or xxxxxx care, the employee shall provide evidence that the formal process is underway. Sick leave used for this purpose is limited to thirty (30) working days but need not be used consecutively.

Related to Use of Sick Leave Days

  • Use of Sick Leave Sick leave is available the first day of the pay period following the pay period in which it was earned, and is taken in units of one-tenth (1/10) of one hour. Use of sick leave is subject to the approval of the appointing authority. Upon request of an employee, the appointing authority may allow the substitution of three (3) or more days of sick leave for paid vacation, provided the employee furnishes a doctor's statement or other satisfactory evidence that the employee was ill or injured for three (3) or more consecutive days.

  • Abuse of Sick Leave Misuse of leave, violation of orders, directives, or contractual requirements concerning the use of sick leave and other forms of leave used in lieu of sick leave are cause for disciplinary action.

  • Sick Leave Use An employee shall be granted sick leave with pay to the extent of the employee's accumulation for absences necessitated by the following conditions:

  • Uses of Sick Leave a. Sick leave shall be accrued before being taken, provided that an employee who participates in a sick leave pool shall not be prohibited from using sick leave otherwise available to the employee through the sick leave pool. b. Sick leave shall be authorized for the following: i. The employee's personal illness or exposure to a contagious disease, which would endanger others. ii. The employee's personal appointments with a health care provider. iii. The illness or injury of a member of the employee's immediate family, at the discretion of the supervisor. Approval of requests for use of reasonable amounts of sick leave for caring for a member of the employee's immediate family shall not be unreasonably withheld. "Immediate family" means the spouse and the grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of both the employee and the spouse, and dependents living in the household.

  • Reinstatement of Vacation Days - Sick Leave In the event an employee is sick or injured prior to the commencement of his/her vacation, such employee shall be granted sick leave and the vacation period so displaced shall be added to the vacation period if requested by the employee and by mutual agreement, or shall be reinstated for use at a later date.

  • Paid Sick Leave For those jurisdictions that have passed or will pass legislation requiring Paid Sick Leave, Paid Sick Time will be billed back to Client at the straight-time bill rate for all hours taken by any Consultant assigned to Client. The maximum amount of payout shall be limited to the current year’s entitlement.

  • Accumulation of Sick Leave The unused portion of an Employee's sick leave shall accrue for her future benefit, up to a maximum of one hundred and thirty (130) days.

  • Sick Leave Donation 10.3.1 A worker may donate days of sick leave to individual District workers who, due to a serious health condition, have exhausted all accumulated sick leave. Donating workers must retain a sixty (60) day balance of sick leave after their donation. No worker may receive more than 40 days of donated leave per year. 10.3.1.1 A “serious health condition” is defined as an illness, injury, impairment or physical or mental condition which involves inpatient care in a hospital, hospice, or residential health care facility, or continuing treatment or continuing supervision by a health care provider as defined in 29 USC 825.114(a) and as certified by a worker’s physician or other qualified medical practitioner. 10.3.1.2 The Vice Chancellor of Human Resources and the Chief Stewards by mutual agreement will verify the certification for eligibility. If the certification from the worker’s physician is insufficient, a certification by a physician of the District’s choosing may be required, at District expense. The District may require additional medical opinions. 10.3.2 Donated leave must be in one-day increments (no less than 8 hours). Recipients of donated sick leave shall be solely responsible for any state and federal taxes on the donated time. Such taxes shall be withheld at the normal rate for the recipient worker. In the event that the state or federal governments rule that tax liability is due other than as taxed, the recipient shall be solely liable for such liabilities. 10.3.2.1 The donated sick leave may be used only when the worker has exhausted accumulated sick leave and either is not eligible for long- term disability or is eligible but has not begun to receive the long-term coverage. 10.3.2.2 The Vice Chancellor of Human Resources shall be notified of solicitation of donations. Solicitations of donations may be made by the individual or his/her representative(s). 10.3.2.3 Donation of sick leave shall be authorized by a signed pledge form prepared by and filed with the District Office of Human Resources. In the event several workers donate sick leave, the sick leave shall be used in the order in which the signed pledge forms are filed with Human Resources. 10.3.2.4 If the worker does not use all donated sick leave, the sick leave shall be returned to the donating worker(s).
