SHORT CHANGE OVER. If shifts are scheduled so that there are not twenty (20) hours between the start of an employee’s shift and the start of an employee’s next shift, overtime rates shall apply to hours worked on the succeeding shift within the twenty (20) hour period. If the shift is changed at the employee’s request, overtime rates shall not apply.

This Article shall not apply to employees sharing evening work in the Centres/Campuses. Hours of evening work may vary in start time and end time, depending on the arrangements mutually agreed to by supervisors and the employees affected, and in accordance with any other applicable Articles of the Collective Agreement.
b) The Union will be informed, in writing, of shift arrangements (i.e., current, new, and altered). New or altered evening shift arrangements will not take effect until the Union has had the opportunity to discuss the arrangements with the affected CUPE members and the College. Such discussion will take place within five (5) working days of the notification to the Union.
c) Affected employees will be provided with written confirmation of an existing arrangement, written notice of a new arrangement, or written notice of an altered arrangement, according to the situation that applies.
d) “Shift Changes” will be included as a regular agenda item for consideration and discussion by the NIC/CUPE Local 3479 Labour Management Committee.

Employees must identify their interest and availability to the applicable manager.
SHORT CHANGE OVER. An employee who has worked overtime shall return to work on the employee’s next regular shift following the overtime, provided the employee has received eight (8) hours rest. An employee whose eight (8) hour rest period extends beyond the start of the employee’s next shift, and therefore does not report to work until the eight (8) hour rest period is complete, shall qualify for full pay for the employee’s next regular shift.

Signed this 20th day of April, 2012 Signed this 2nd day of March, 2006 RE: XXXXXX GARDENS AND WOODLAND EMPLOYEES In order to include the employees at Xxxxxx Gardens and Woodland in the Vancouver Island University unit of CUPE Local 1858, the parties agree to the following:
1) Pursuant to the Labour Relations Code of British Columbia, all employees working at Xxxxxx Gardens and Woodland shall be employees of Vancouver Island University and shall be included under the trade union certification held by CUPE Local 1858.
2) The collective agreement between Vancouver Island University and CUPE Local 1858 shall apply to Xxxxxx Gardens and Woodland employees with exceptions or amendments as listed in this agreement.
3) Employees will be required to rotate shifts (maximum frequency of one (1) weekend in four (4)) in order to provide Duty Person coverage on Saturdays, and Sundays. Any short shift premium will be waived for this.
4) The current and future use of volunteer labour, paid and unpaid student work experience, and externally funded employment opportunities at Xxxxxx Gardens and Woodland shall continue, provided that no volunteer or student shall cause the layoff or reduction in scheduled hours of an employee. Where it is operationally and fiscally possible, (subject to the funding agency specifications, if any) externally funded work opportunities will augment employment hours of employees up to full-time.
