Special Education Release Time. All special education teachers will receive two (2) days release time to do diagnostic testing and prepare IEPs. The building principal shall have in his sole and exclusive discretion authority to add a third day if a teacher requests additional time.

Special Education Release Time. 7.13.1 TK-12 Special Education classroom teachers and APE teachers will be provided by the District up to two (2) work days per school year of released time from regular class duties, as needed to perform the duties described in this section. This released time is subject to these provisions: 7.13.1.1 The 2-day allotment is a maximum and must be used as described in this article. Therefore, some Special Education teachers will not be eligible for the full two-day (2-day) allotment if that amount of released time cannot be justified because of their comparative student caseloads, relatively non-complex IEP duties, or other factors. 7.13.1.2 The number of days of released time shall be pro-rated for Special Education classroom teachers in less than full-time or full-year special education assignments, with the two-day (2-day) maximum pro-rated to reflect the proportion the teacher’s assignment bears to a full-time assignment. 7.13.1.3 Released time is compensated as regular work time. Unused released time does not carry over to future school years. 7.13.1.4 The released time shall be used for duties relating to preparing or reviewing reports and plans, participating in meetings, assessing students and similar or related duties associated with IEPs of students assigned to the unit member’s class and /or case load. Unit members using such released time shall remain on site, actively performing such duties. 7.13.1.5 The released time shall be allotted on a full-day basis (or pro-rated for part-time unit members). The District will provide a full work day substitute for the unit member, but the resulting released time and substitute services may be used cooperatively among the special education team at the site. 7.13.1.6 Any request for released time must be submitted to the site administrator and the Director of Special Education at least one week before the proposed usage. The request must include a description of the duties to be performed by the unit member and must identify the student(s) whose IEPs or services are to be addressed. The request may be approved or disapproved by the site administrator and the Director of Special Education. A disapproved request will not decrease the total amount of released time available to the unit member. Special Education Release Time. (IEP DAYS) 15.7.1 In the 2024-2025 school year, the district shall grant all special education classroom teaching staff substitute release time. Days shall be allocated based on the program in which the staff member works the majority of their assignment: Preschool, FSA, ATI, ATP, Midlevel, Sensory, ASPIRE, and Social Emotional: 4 days Learning Center and NLO: 5 days 15.7.2 Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, the District shall grant all special education classroom teaching staff nine (9) days of substitute release time per year. 15.7.3 All SLPs shall be granted three (3) days of release time per year. 15.7.4 Said release time shall be granted at a time mutually agreed upon by the employee and principal. Employees may not use a release day on a “non-student work day,” may not use release days consecutive school days and, if the release day is on Friday, it must be worked on a district campus. At the end of the year, unused days shall be cashed out at the long-term substitute rate on the July pay warrant.

Special education teachers can select to be paid at the substitute teacher daily rate in lieu of a release day. e. If a special education teacher’s caseload is over 15 students, the special education teacher shall receive one additional release day if they have a caseload of 16 students, shall receive another release day if they have a caseload of 20 students, and an additional release day if they have a caseload of 25 students. f. Special Education teachers shall request release time by providing at least ten (10) work days’ notice in advance of the requested release time. In the even that a substitute teacher cannot be located to provide coverage on the special education release day(s), the District may reschedule such release time to another day or the special education teacher may opt for pay in lieu of the release day consistent with Section 8.12(d).
