Union Educational Leave. At the Union's request, in writing, a member or members will be granted leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority for Union education. Such leave must be requested at least two (2) weeks in advance of such leave and not more than five (5) members of the Union or two (2) members from any department will be granted such leave for the same period. Union education leave will be limited to not more than thirty (30) working days each year and will be subject to the efficient operation of the Association.

One Hundred and Twenty (120) hours per contract year shall be allocated to the bargaining unit for Union educational leave purposes. Four (4) employees only from each department shall take leave at any one time and any one (1) employee in the bargaining unit shall take no more than forty (40) hours of this leave per year. Employees requesting release time under this provision shall identify the class or seminar they wish to attend, including times, dates and place. The Union agrees to use this leave reasonably. Union Educational Leave. Employees who are elected or selected by the Local Union to attend educational classes conducted by the Union, or for the Union, or duly elected delegates to the FOP/OLC International Convention, or the Annual Convention of the FOP Council, shall be treated as though applying for personal leave and such leave shall be without pay, without loss of seniority and in such numbers of Bargaining Unit Members as approved by the Director, Police/Safety with due consideration to the efficient operation of the Department. Upon return from a leave of absence, lasting longer than thirty (30) days (173 hours), an employee's seniority date, benefit dates and benefit accrual rates will be adjusted forward to take into account the length of the employee's absence; provided, however, that the employee shall be given the credit on his/her seniority date and benefit eligibility dates for the first thirty (30) calendar days (173 hours) of his/her absence. Any employees granted a Union Educational Leave of Absence shall be entitled to re-employment at the expiration of said leave in his/her former classification and Department, seniority permitting.
