Union Encouragement. (1) The employer is committed to the Government’s Union Encouragement Policy and as part of this commitment, recognises the right of individuals to join a union and will encourage that membership. However, it is also recognised that union membership remains at the discretion of individuals. (2) An application for union membership and information on the relevant union/s will be provided to all employees at the point of engagement. (3) Information on the relevant union(s) will be included in induction materials. (4) Union representative(s) will be provided with the opportunity to discuss union membership with new employees. (5) The employer is encouraged to agree to local arrangements about union and delegate rights in the workplace. (6) The employer is to provide relevant unions with complete lists of new starters (consisting of name, job title, work email, work location (including floor level where possible), award and employment status (permanent/temporary/casual)) to the workplace on a quarterly basis, unless agreed between the employer and union to be on a more regular basis. This information is to be provided electronically. Union Encouragement. The Queensland Government has made a commitment to encourage union membership among its employees. As part of this commitment, the Department is supporting this policy by: (a) supporting constructive relations and consultation between management and unions and recognising the need to work collaboratively with unions and employees in an open accountable way; (b) recognising, accepting and supporting the constructive role elected union delegates undertake in the workplace in relation to union activities that support and assist members; (c) recognising the right of individuals to join a union and take steps to encourage that membership, such as ensuring that the Department provide all new starters with written advice about the government’s commitment to union encouragement and how to access further information and union materials; (d) providing UV with data for new starters including Department, Award, Employee Name, Title, Classification, Job Type, Location, Floor (where available) and Work email address; (e) facilitating paid industrial relations leave for staff to obtain industrial relations knowledge (as per below); and (f) providing union access to members and other staff in the workplace for the purpose of discussing any union or employment related matter, providing that service delivery is not disrupted and work requirements are not duly affected.

Union Encouragement. ICC shall establish mutually agreed procedures through the Joint Consultative Committee so that all reasonable steps are taken to encourage employees, including subcontractors’ employees, to be financial members of the relevant union whilst working on site in the aforementioned unions’ classifications. All employees shall be provided with an application form and information from the relevant union/s at the point of engagement. Such application forms and information are to be made available by ICC as provided by the relevant union. Union representatives shall be given access to new employees at engagement and induction so as to facilitate the encouragement of union membership. Any dispute arising under the clause including claims that an employer has not met his obligations shall be dealt with in accordance with the disputes procedure contained in the relevant award.
