UTILITY DRIVERS. The use of utility drivers and the method of payment for such utility drivers shall be contained in the Riders attached to this Supplement and/or Addenda which may be made a part of such Rider.

UTILITY DRIVERS. 6.01 It is agreed that package operations may hire Utility Drivers. Part-time employees (in order of seniority) who desire to be hired as Utility Drivers shall so inform their Center Manager in writing. Those part-time employees who successfully meet the qualification standards for UPS drivers will be considered for the Utility driving job (e.g., personal safe driving record and must pass DOT physical).
UTILITY DRIVERS. 6.01 It is agreed that Package operations may hire Utility Drivers. These Utility Drivers may be used to cover absen- tees, overflow work, vacations, etc. There shall be no restric- tion on the starting time of Utility Drivers.
UTILITY DRIVERS a. When a Utility Driver is scheduled in advance to deliver, they will not work their scheduled part-time shift on each of those days unless mutually agreed.
UTILITY DRIVERS. (a) It is agreed that package operations may hire utility drivers. Regular employees (in order of seniority) who desire to be considered as a utility driver shall submit a letter of intent to his/her their center manager. Those employees who successfully meet the qualification standards for UPS drivers will be considered for the utility driving job. In buildings where there are more than one package center, the utility driver shall choose the center he/she they wants to be permanently assigned to prior to classroom training. New utility drivers shall be considered qualified once they complete a trial period as defined by Article 4, Section 1 (b) of the Western Region Supplement. Utility drivers shall be placed on a designated area during their trial period. A qualified, current utility driver will not be required to complete another package car driver trial period. They must make themselves available on a daily basis unless mutually agreed by the Company and Union. The company shall notify the union of any utility driver found in non-compliance, after notification to the union, if the employee continues to be unavailable for utility work, it may be grounds for the employee being removed from the utility driving list. If removed, the employee may request to place their name back on the utility list, if there is an opening, after six (6) months. Utility drivers will not be required to work their part-time shift on days when they work as a utility driver for eight (8) hours or more.

If judged to be not qualified by area knowl- edge the company will at its earliest opportunity provide training to qualify the employee in the area knowledge needed. It is hereby agreed between the Company and the Union that the Company may deviate from seniority forlack of area knowledge” for only two (2) occurrences (an occurrence can be one (1) workday up to maximum of five (5) consecutive workdays) on the same route. Thereafter the Company will dispatch the utility driver by seniority for the route.

Regular part-time employees (in order of location seniority) who de- sire to be hired as utility drivers shall so inform the center manager. Those part-time employees who successfully meet the qualification standards for UPS drivers will be considered for the utility driving job. These utility drivers may be used to cover absentees, overflow work, etc. Utility drivers, who work in centers located in hub buildings where hub work is available, will be guaranteed eight (8) hours pay at the driver rates. In other locations where hub work is not available, the eight (8) hour guarantee will not apply. Starting time restriction shall not apply to utility drivers. The company shall post a bid for utility drivers in the first week of March each year. An employee who desires to be added to the cur- rent utility list, and who has more seniority than the junior employ- ee on the current list shall place their name on the bid. Employees who successfully meet the qualification standards for UPS drivers and complete the orientation training will be added to the list. The training shall commence within ninety (90) days. Progression scale for utility drivers (Refer to Article 21, Section 2).

Those part-time employees who successfully meet the qualification standards for utility drivers, shall be placed on the building utility driver list by area practice and will be dispatched by the most senior utility driver qualified to deliver or pick up by area knowledge. If judged to be not qualified by area knowledge the Employer will at its earliest opportunity provide training to qualify the employee in the area knowledge needed.
UTILITY DRIVERS who disqualify themselves from the utility driver classification and who choose to no longer perform utility work then subsequently enter the full-time driver classification, shall receive the New Hire Progression rate in NMUPS Article 41 Section 2 or their current rate, whichever is greater.
