ACTING OFFICERS. A. Temporary employee assignments on an acting pay basis to the ranks of Paramedic Supervisor, Paramedic Coordinator, Lieutenant, Captain or Deputy Chief shall be compensated at the appropriate rate of the higher class providing the assignment is for a period of not less than four (4) hours. A Fire Lieutenant may be assigned to fill the role of Paramedic Supervisor without eligibility for acting pay. Acting pay for firefighters filling Fire Lieutenant positions, when assigned to the Lifesquad/Ambulance, shall be paid at the wage rate as described in ARTICLE 36 PARAMEDIC RANK STRUCTURE (C). All vacant line officer positions shall be filled in accordance with ARTICLE 16 ACTING OFFICERS in a way that preserves pay and benefits for members while providing efficiency in assignments and line operations. An acting officer shall not necessarily be assigned to the same location as the officer whom he or she is replacing.
B. Acting pay assignments will be compensated as part of the regular bi-weekly pay.
C. Each individual acting assignment interrupted by time off (except for sick leave usage) or reassignment back to the employee’s original, permanent class shall constitute a separate assignment when filled on an acting basis.
D. Members assigned on an acting basis in the rank of Paramedic Supervisor, Lieutenant, Captain, or Deputy Chief will be paid in the first step of the rank in which they are acting.
E. The Chief of the Division of Fire shall have the right to determine the need for filling of vacant positions on an acting basis except as otherwise modified by the above provisions.
F. The Division of Fire shall maintain a list of members eligible to work as acting officers. It shall be voluntary to be placed on this list. Those on the list must have at least four (4) years on the Xxxxxxxx Fire Department. In the event that no acting officers are available (on duty) from the list, the Deputy Chief shall make assignments as he deems necessary. This provision shall not create overtime, it only specifies that members from the acting officers list shall be used before going outside the list to make assignments.
ACTING OFFICERS. In the event of there is a need to appoint an acting officer the City shall appoint from the existing top-three scorers on the current list. If the candidate selected is not interested in the acting officer’s position, the City will appoint the next of the three (3) qualified candidates.
ACTING OFFICERS. (a) In the absence or disability of the Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson, and Secretary, an acting Chairperson shall be selected by the members of the Organization present.
(b) In the absence or disability of the Secretary, an acting Secretary shall be selected by the members of the Organization present.
(c) A member of the Organization may act to fulfill the duties of only one office at a time unless serving in the absence or disability of another officer.

The initial salary or rate increment step for the class of Fire Lieutenant shall be utilized only for the purpose of acting pay arising out of temporary promotional appointments to that class.
E. The Chief of the Division of Fire shall have the right to determine the need for filling of vacant positions on an acting basis except as otherwise modified by the above provisions.

ACTING OFFICERS. SECTION 1. No firefighter is eligible to serve as Acting Captain until he/she has completed three (3) years service in the Fire Department. Whenever any firefighter is required to serve as an Acting Captain, such employee shall receive the rate of pay at the 3rd step of the range for the period of time in which the employee acts in the position. Similarly, any eligible dispatcher and lineman completing three (3) years of service assigned to and performing as Chief Dispatcher and Xxxxxxx respectively, shall receive the rate of the higher rank for the period of time in which the employee acts in the position. All "acting" assignments in the classification of captain shall be at the discretion of the Department.
SECTION 2. Payment for serving as Acting Captain shall be made within sixty (60) days.
ACTING OFFICERS. 76.1. The selection of a bargaining unit employee to work in a higher classification shall be governed by the following procedure.
76.1.1. Employees shall be eligible to act in a higher classification if they have the qualifications to be promoted to the position and have completed the designated department training. The County shall provide regular and consistent training and development opportunities.
76.1.2. The Battalion Management Team shall assign qualified acting personnel as needed to provide safe and effective emergency and prevention services. Employees may request removal of their qualifications or certifications. If approved, those employee’s acting status will be removed.
76.1.3. First consideration shall be given to employees regularly assigned to the work location where the vacancy is located (for positions that are battalion or shift- wide e.g. EMS Supervisor for the battalion or shift) on their regular shift.
76.2. The County may choose to assign one employee to act in a higher classification without rotating in other eligible employees for temporary vacancies expected to last thirty (30) days or longer, hereafter known as a long- term acting assignment.
ACTING OFFICERS. 12:1 Whenever any employee is required to work in a higher classification, i.e., Acting Deputy Chief, Acting Captain, Acting Lieutenant, Acting Fire Marshal, and Acting classification in which he/she is performing such duties for a full tour of duty. In the event that a Fire Captain is absent from duty the Senior Lieutenant assigned to the Fire Company in which such vacancy exists, shall be considered and shall serve as Acting Captain at such Fire Company. He/she shall receive the minimum of the classification in which he/she is performing such duties beginning with the 15th calendar day of each individual absence.
12:2 Acting Officer positions shall not be considered for purposes of pension contribution or pension compensation as defined in Article XXIX of this Agreement.
ACTING OFFICERS. Whenever any firefighter is required to serve as an acting lieutenant, he shall receive the wage rate paid to a lieutenant for the day(s) of such service, provided only that the firefighter serves in such capacity for a minimum of four (4) hours.
ACTING OFFICERS. In case of the absence of any officer of the Company, or for any other reason that the Member may deem sufficient, the Member may delegate, for such period of time as the Member may determine, any or all of the powers or duties of such officer to any other officer.
ACTING OFFICERS. Any employee covered by this agreement is eligible to serve as acting officer when the employee has completed three (3) years of service in the Edison Fire Department. Whenever an employee is required to serve as an acting officer, such employee shall receive the rate of pay for that rank for each day any portion of that day he is in an acting position.
