APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. Par.
1. Any District employee who has successfully met all the prerequisites established by the District and is selected to enter a District apprenticeship program, shall, as a condition of entering an apprenticeship program, attend an apprenticeship program orientation of that program. The orientation will include a meeting with a supervisor to cover job requirements and expectations, working conditions, and an interview with a journey level worker. Any employee after entering a program and who leaves that program for any reason prior to attaining journey level status, shall forfeit their right to enter another program for one year or the length of time served in that program, whichever is lesser.

APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. The company acknowledges the need to train and improve the skills of its employees. Therefore the company agrees to meet with the union in January of each year to review the hiring of apprentices to ensure the transfer of knowledge and continuation of productivity where it is beneficial to production requirements.
APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. The tuition cost for Mandated continuing education will be at no cost to the employee, but enrollment shall be subject to budgetary limitations as determined on an annual basis by the Department.
APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. Article Definitions
APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. (a) When the Company and the Union mutually agree there is a need for apprentice-type shop training in identified 20 classification(s), the Company will develop apprenticeship training programs to meet those needs. The total training period 21 will be determined by the skills required and will be reviewed by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
(b) The Company agrees to pay the full tuition-registration charges in connection with the related training of an 23 apprentice that is on course.
APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. All vacancies in an apprentice program shall be posted as the top classification in that job classification. An employee who is the successful bidder for a vacancy within an approved apprentice program and thereafter withdraws or is disqualified for any reason, before completing the program, may be placed by the Director at any position at its corresponding current rate of pay as provided for in Article 3 of this agreement. A newly hired employee in an apprentice program (meaning off the street) who fails to complete the program, for any reason, may be terminated.

APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. Employee(s) hired and/or transferred upon successful bid into a City approved Apprentice Program shall be bound to the following rules and conditions as a condition of continued employment:
1) The employee is to be enrolled and be actively engaged in an apprenticeship training program as determined by the Employer at its sole discretion;
2) The employee shall maintain the required course work and show adequate progress as determined by the employer;
3) The employee shall be paid the wage identified in Appendix “A” for the step or level, as determined by the Employer, to be appropriate based on qualifications at the start of the program. Further wage adjustments shall be made as determined by successful completion of program qualifications.
4) Time spent taking classes, other class related activities and commuting to and from classes will not be compensated outside of the normal workday. The Employer will either pay for or reimburse the employee for the cost of tuition and books required.
5) An incumbent employee transferred upon successful bid into an Apprentice Program at any level or step of the program, who fails to meet any of the requirements set forth in paragraphs 1) and 2) above shall be returned back to the employee’s most recent non-apprentice job classification, provided that the employee is still qualified for that classification, has greater seniority than the employee(s) occupying the classification, and the Employer, at its sole discretion, has determined the need to fill that classification. If there is no such Employer need or the disqualified apprentice lacks the qualifications or seniority to be returned to his/her former classification immediately, the employee shall have the right to bid for an open posted position as provided by Section 8.6, or, if no opening for bidding exists or the employee is not awarded the job bid, the employee shall be laid off subject to the employee’s rights under Section 8.5(d). The employee(s) bumped because of returning the apprentice to his/her last previous classification shall have the same such rights as the disqualified apprentice provided above.
a) Upon bidding into an Apprentice Program, the employee is subject to Sections 8.6(a) through (c), 8.7 and all contract provisions except as provided in this Section.
b) Access to the grievance procedure as it pertains to the Apprentice Program, is limited to the issue of whether the employee failed to meet any of the above requirements. The Employer’s decis...
APPRENTICE PROGRAMS. The established Apprentice Programs between The Long Island Rail Road Company and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are attached for the Maintenance of Equipment Department as Appendix I-1 and for the Maintenance of Way Department as Appendices I-2 and I-3.
