Assigning Overtime. The university shall give as much notice as possible of overtime to be worked. In assigning overtime work, the university shall consider any circumstances which might cause such an assignment to be an unusual burden upon the employee. When such circumstances do exist, the employee shall not be required to work unless his/her absence would cause the university to be unable to meet its responsibilities.

Assigning Overtime. The Company will assign overtime within a classification to employees as equally as practicable. A record of overtime assignments shall be kept and made available to the Union for examination.
Assigning Overtime. Overtime assignments will be assigned first to volunteers, provided the volunteers meet reasonable employee qualifications as determined by the Chief of Police. Volunteers will be selected for overtime assignments based on their total accumulated overtime hours, starting with the volunteer who has the least amount of overtime hours to the volunteer who has the most. In the event that two or more volunteers have the same number of overtime hours, the employee with the most classification seniority shall be awarded the assignment. If not enough qualified and eligible employees volunteer for a detail, officers will be assigned starting with the officer with the least amount of accumulated overtime to the officer with the most accumulated overtime. In the event of a tie, the employee with the least classification seniority will be assigned the detail.
Assigning Overtime. Where there are insufficient volunteers to work an overtime assignment, overtime and work on a holiday shall be assigned by HOOPP on the basis of inverse order of seniority provided those employees so designated have, in the opinion of HOOPP, the ability to perform the functions required. HOOPP undertakes to attempt to accommodate the wishes of an employee to not take an overtime or weekend or holiday work assignment provided sufficient employees are available to assume the assignment. Bargaining Unit employees shall have priority where overtime is required for Bargaining Unit work. Only in the event that there are insufficient bargaining unit employees available, will overtime be offered to non- bargaining unit employees.

(B) Overtime shall be distributed as equally as feasible each month among qualified employees customarily performing the kind of work required, and currently assigned to the work section in which the overtime is to be worked. Employees not required to work under paragraph (A) of this Section shall have the overtime foregone recognized for the sole purpose of equalization. The university/college shall maintain a record of all overtime worked and shall post this record monthly in each work section. (C) All employees shall receive cash for overtime worked unless the employee elects to receive compensatory time off. If the employee wishes to receive compensatory time off in lieu of cash, the employee must submit a written request to his/her supervisor no later than the employee's first regular workday following the date the overtime was worked. Employees may not accrue more than one hundred twenty (120) hours of accrued comp time. (D) Cash payment for overtime earned after the payroll cutoff date shall be made by the next payroll period following the pay period in which overtime is worked. (E) The university/college shall provide a meal or reimbursement for each eligible employee who is required to work two (2) or more hours beyond the end of his/her work shift when such additional work causes the employee to miss his/her regular meal. Where the university/college elects to provide reimbursement, the employee will be reimbursed pursuant to the in-state rate established in Article 27, which is appropriate to the time of day the overtime was worked. (F) Subject to operating requirements of the university/college, an employee shall have his/her choice of compensatory time off. If two (2) or more employees request the same period of time
Assigning Overtime. Lieutenants may volunteer for overtime assignments that they are qualified and eligible for, provided the overtime is not due to the employee’s own vacancy. If the vacancy is due to an employee changing his/her scheduled work hours, s/he may volunteer for that overtime assignment, but only after it is offered to all other eligible employees. Lieutenants may not modify their schedule to work overtime unless there are no volunteers for the overtime opportunity. Lieutenants may volunteer for overtime details while on approved vacation time, personal time, or compensatory time off, provided the detail is not during the employee’s hours they requested to be off. Absent the existence of operational necessity, employees who are on compensatory time off, vacation, holiday, personal leave, or sick leave will not be assigned overtime. Overtime work distribution duties assigned to each Supervisory Unit Member by management shall be assigned in a fair, impartial, and consistent manner in accordance with class specifications. When two or more supervisors are assigned to the same office or unit, and or share similar supervision responsibilities as identified in the class specifications, management shall fairly, impartially and consistently rotate overtime assignments among the supervisors, when practicable.
