Educational Aides. A. Instructional Aides
1. Upon successful completion of a probationary period of at least 90 days, an instructional educational aide shall be considered tenured, meaning that the assistant shall be provided with the rights of this Agreement, including transfer and bumping.
2. Instructional Educational Aides Work Schedule
Educational Aides. 30.01 Educational aides who work more than four (4) hours, but less than six (6) hours shall be entitled to one ten (10) minute rest period. Educational aides who work a six-hour shift or more shall be entitled to two ten (10) minute rest periods. These rest periods shall not conflict with the employee’s work schedule, and shall be approved by the employee’s immediate supervisor and/or building Principal. This provision is subject to Section 1.04.B.
30.02 Educational aides working less than five (5) consecutive hours shall not be entitled to a paid lunch. Educational aides working five (5) consecutive hours or more shall have a total of thirty (30) minutes of paid lunch time daily, subject to interruption for the performance of needed duties. This provision is subject to Section 1.04.C.
30.03 Educational aides shall be employed and such employment shall be implemented pursuant to the O.R.C., Section 3319.
Educational Aides. The educational aides shall work in their assigned classrooms the day before the first student day and shall not work the day after the last student day.
Educational Aides. Full-time Educational Aide 6.5 hours per day
Educational Aides. 29.1 Educational Aides/Paraprofessionals shall not be used in the place of regular classroom teachers in accordance with 3319.088 of the Ohio Revised Code.
29.2 The Board will pay the cost for "Education Aides" permits.
29.3 No employees shall be required to provide transportation for any student(s) in their personal vehicles under any circumstances.
Educational Aides. The Board agrees that educational aides shall not be used in place of classroom teachers except in an emergency situation when certified substitutes cannot be obtained. There shall be a sign-up list for educational aides who wish to be assigned to classrooms in the absence of a teacher. Employees who do not wish to sign the list will not be required to cover classrooms in the teacher’s absence. For these services, aides will be paid an additional six dollars ($6.00) per hour. In order to provide stability and consistency for students with low incidence disabilities, the Superintendent may restrict educational aides from bidding out of a position during a school year. Educational aides who submit a bid on a vacant position who are awarded the position may not move into the new position until the beginning of the next school year.
Educational Aides. The Board shall determine in which classifications layoffs should occur and the number of employees to be laid off.
Educational Aides. 27.01 Educational Aides contracts maybe suspended under Article 10 (Reduction in Staff) until federal/state funds become available for the following year. Educational Aides hours may also be adjusted to meet district needs; however, if a reduction is necessary, the administration will consider the possibility of suspending contracts to lay off employees before it reduces hours.
27.02 Federal/State funded Educational Aides will be employed as hourly employees only. They will not be salaried employees.
Educational Aides. A. The hours and assignment(s) to be worked by the Educational Aides shall be determined prior to the start of each school year by the administration. Assignments will be made using the following criteria:
1. Seniority within the Educational Aide classification.
2. Completion of specific professional development as required by the position in a reasonable time and paid for by the Board of Education.
3. Administrative review, including past job performance and evaluation, attendance and punctuality, attitude towards other employees and/or the employee’s ability (see job description) or inability to meet pertinent state requirements and pertinent qualifications and job requirements listed in the approved and applicable job description. If there is a disagreement of assignment, a review meeting will be held with the Superintendent, Union Representative, the affected employee and the Special Education Director within seven (7) days of notification of assignment.
B. The number of hours each Educational Aide works on a daily basis may be increased or decreased throughout the school year in accordance with the student’s/students’ IEP, placement, movement into or out of the School District, or the needs of the District. Any changes to Special Needs Bus Aides’ hours after the annual initial assignment shall be determined as outlined in Article XVII, Section 17
.01. This change in hours or assignment is not subject to the layoff procedure set forth in Article XXII.
C. In the event an Educational Aide assignment must be adjusted during the school year, he/she shall be paid not less than his/her current contracted hours as determined at the beginning of the school year, but be temporarily reassigned, until another assignment becomes available at the same number of hours as the original assignment, or the end of the current school year, whichever occurs first. The reassignment will remain consistent with the duties set forth in the current job description for this classification. Reassignment may be to a different classroom, grade level, and/or building. While re-assigned, the employee shall not have bumping rights within this classification unless the vacant position is more work hours than the employee is receiving; however, for vacancies that may occur outside this classification, the provisions of Article XIX shall apply. For the subsequent school year, the assignment shall be determined following the procedure set forth in section (A) above.
