Fire Captain. Five (5) years’ experience as a full-time career Firefighter or Fire Apparatus Engineer with the Fire Authority or a fire agency that the OCFA assumed fire protection responsibility for, or a combination of the two, who has completed probation as a Firefighter at the time of application. In addition to the years’ experience requirement above, an applicant seeking promotion to Fire Captain must meet basic proficiency skills by any one of the following: a. The applicant is a current Fire Apparatus Engineer with the OCFA; b. The applicant is on a current Fire Apparatus Engineer promotional list; c. The applicant has completed the formalized OCFA Fire Apparatus Engineer Development Series (Class 1-4); Individuals who meet the minimum qualifications to participate in the Fire Captain promotional process will be authorized to receive compensation for off-duty attendance at these classes. d. In addition to meeting at least one of the basic proficiency skills listed in a- d, an applicant must have completed either the eight (8) California State Fire Marshal Fire Officer courses prior to 01/01/2017 or the current California State Fire Marshal Company Officer courses. Proof of documentation is required. e. The applicant must meet the required training for an Engine Boss, Single Resource (ENGB) as outlined in the most current California Incident Command Certification System (CICCS) Qualification Guide - through the Office of Emergency Services (OES).

Fire Captain. Salary upon Promotion or Transfer 17.6.1 Any permanent or probationary Fire Apparatus Engineer promoting to Fire Captain (B) will receive a minimum increase in pay of 3 steps or 15%. 17.6.2 Any permanent or probationary Fire Captain (A) who moves to Fire Captain (B) will receive a 10% or 2 step increase in pay while retaining his/her anniversary date. 17.6.3 Any permanent or probationary Fire Captain (B) who moves to Fire Captain (A) will receive a 10% or 2 step decrease in pay while retaining his/her anniversary date. 17.6.4 Permanent or probationary employees moving from either Fire Captain (A) or (B) to another classification shall do so from their salary step at the time of the classification change. 17.6.5 A Bargaining Unit member who promotes from Fire Captain to any grade I position will be placed at a salary level in the new range which is at least five percent higher than the employees current salary level.
Fire Captain. Any employee certified by the Office of the State Fire Marshal as a Fire Officer or Company Officer will be eligible for 2.75% education pay. Employees are eligible for an additional 2.75% education pay for a Chief Officer certificate. Effective January 1, 2017 and thereafter, any employee who has not already achieved a maximum of 5.5% education pay will be eligible for 2.75% education pay for an Associate’s Degree.
Fire Captain. In order for an employee to qualify for and participate in the Fire Captain examination, said employee shall have five years’ experience with the Evanston Fire Department assigned to suppression, as a firefighter or a firefighter/paramedic. For examinations beginning after January 1, 2006, employees must possess the following additional qualification to participate in the examination: possession of Fire Officer I State Certification or Fire Officer I Provisional or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Management or Public Safety with a fire service concentration. Such degrees must be from accredited institutions. The placement of employees on promotional lists shall be based on the points achieved by the employees on promotional examinations for Fire Captain consisting of the following four components weighted as specified: Written Test 60% Professional Achievement 15% Oral Exam 12.5% Seniority 12.5% (up to) Those applicants whose scores are the top 80% of the applicant pool will be placed on the eligibility list. In the event of tied scores, both applicants will be placed on the eligibility list with the more senior applicant being ahead of the other applicant on the list. Seniority will be calculated based on months of completed service as of the close of applications. Candidates shall be awarded a maximum of twelve and one-half (12.5) points on the promotional examination for seniority. Candidates shall be awarded one point for each twenty-four months of completed service, and thereafter, one-twenty-fourth (.04167) of a point for each month of completed service to the maximum of 12.5 points.
Fire Captain. 1. Eligibility. Fire Lieutenants with two (2) years or more in grade or current rank. If there are less than enough applicants, Fire Lieutenants with less than two (2) years service in grade or current rank will be eligible. 2. Seniority. Rank on eligibility list shall be determined by actual time served in Lieutenant classification.
Fire Captain a minimum of three years of service at the rank of Lieutenant with the Snoqualmie Fire Department.
