Test Components. All promotional criteria used shall have a direct bearing on the position being tested and will stress objectivity and seek to minimize the interjection of subjective considerations unrelated to performance. All promotional criteria will be job related in accordance with EEOC guidelines. Scores on each component of the exam shall be posted. Written Exam The written examination shall consist of questions which are job related and validated. Study guides and reference lists shall be made available equally to all candidates at least ninety (90) days before the date of the written examination.
(1) The appointing authority may not condition eligibility to take the written examination on the candidate’s score on any of the previous components of the examination. The written examination for a particular rank shall consist of matters relating to the duties regularly performed by persons holding that rank within the department. The examination shall be based only on the contents of written materials that the appointing authority has identified and made readily available to potential examinees at least ninety (90) days before the examination is administered. The test questions and material must be pertinent to the particular rank for which the examination is being given. The written examination shall be administered after the determination and posting of the seniority list. The written examination shall be administered, the test materials opened, and the results scored and tabulated.
(2) Written examinations shall be graded at the examination site on the day of the examination immediately upon completion of the test in front of the observers if such observers are appointed under Section 25 of the Fire Department Promotions Act, or if the tests are graded offsite by a bona fide testing agency, the observers (if appointed) shall witness the sealing and the shipping of the tests for grading and the subsequent opening of the scores upon the return from the testing agency. Every examinee shall have the right (i) to obtain his or her score on the examination on the day of the examination or upon the day of its return from the testing agency (or the appointing authority shall require the testing agency to mail the individual scores to any address submitted by the candidates on the day of the examination); and (ii) to review the answers to the examination that the examiners consider correct. Test Components. The physical fitness test shall consist of the following components:
(1) Option of Bench Press or pushups to measure upper body strength;
(2) Option of Leg Press or vertical jump to measure lower body strength;
(3) Sit-ups to measure trunk muscular fitness;
(4) Option of GXT Test or 1.5 mile run to measure aerobic power; and
(5) 300 meter run to measure anaerobic power. The employee may satisfy the aerobic power component by satisfactorily performing either a GXT Test or 1.5 mile run. The employee at their sole discretion may select either the GXT Test or the 1.5 mile run. If the employee selects the GXT Test, they must agree in writing that the test administrator may disclose a numerical test score to the MPD. If an employee selects to do the run, they are still entitled to take one GXT Test per year for their own personal benefit and the results of such GXT Test need not be disclosed to the MPD. The employee may satisfy the upper body strength component by attaining the standards for either the flat weight or percentage of body weight as measured by the bench press or performing the requisite number of push-ups. The employee may satisfy the lower body strength component by attaining the standards for either the flat weight as measured by the leg press or performing the required vertical jump. The employee must select either the bench press or push-ups and the leg press or vertical jump prior to taking the test.
Test Components. A. Written Examination. The written examination shall consist of 150 questions composed and deemed to be
Test Components. Each component of the promotional test shall be scored on a scale of one hundred (100) points. The component scores shall then be reduced by the weighting factor assigned to the component on the test and the scores of all components shall be added to produce a potential total of one hundred (100) points. Candidates shall then be ranked on the list in rank order based on the highest to lowest total scores on all test components. Such ranking shall constitute the preliminary promotional list. Whenever two (2) or more candidates receive the same score, priority shall be given to the person who has seniority. However, tie scores shall not prevent a candidate(s) from being placed on the preliminary or final promotional lists. A candidate on the preliminary promotional list who is eligible for a veteran’s preference under the laws and agreements applicable to the Department may file a written application for that preference within ten (10) days after the initial posting of the preliminary promotional list. The preference shall be calculated as provided under Section 55 of the Act and added to the total score achieved by the candidate on the test. The appointing authority shall then make adjustments to the rank order of the preliminary promotional list based on any veteran’s preferences awarded. The final promotional list shall be composed of the top fifteen (15) candidates, when possible after the application of any veteran’s preference points, however the application of veteran’s preference points to any candidates scores shall not be a reason to remove any other candidate(s) from the final promotional list if the other candidate(s) was (were) one of the top fifteen (15) candidates on the preliminary promotional list. Within thirty (30) days, the final adjusted promotional list shall be posted in each fire station, with copies provided to the Union and all candidates.
Test Components. 1) Promotional Potential Rating (PPR) –This component shall be conducted by the fire chief, assistant chief(s), and one member selected by the bargaining unit as follows: The evaluation criteria shall be based upon specific job-related performance criteria that shall be disclosed to all candidates six (6) months prior to administering the process thereafter.

B. Administration of Components—Test components shall be administered as follows:
Test Components. A. Written Examinations. The test shall consist of between 100 and 150 questions relevant to the Lieutenant or Captain’s position. Such questions shall not be disclosed to any of the participants.
B. Seniority Points. All members challenging the exam shall be awarded one-half point for each year of full time service on the department up to 20 years, for a maximum of 10 points.
Test Components. All officers and applicants will be given an orientation and walk through. No one will be allowed to take the test unless they fully understand what is expected of them. The tests is explained in Appendix “A” To begin the test, the officer will sit in the driver’s seat of a patrol car, a police utility belt and the equipment listed above, and will await further instructions. A test monitor will give the officer verbal instruction to pursue a fleeing felony suspect (fictitious) by providing a description of what the suspect is wearing (for example a baseball hat and a red t-shirt). The test monitor will provide two pieces of descriptive information. The officer must then complete the following physical tasks:
