New Bargaining Unit Member Orientation. The Association President and Membership Chairperson shall be notified by SCSS of all annually scheduled New Employee Orientation meetings by July 1 for the following school year by email and home mailing. Three (3) days prior to each New Employee Orientation Meeting, SCSS will provide the Association President and Membership Chairperson a list, subject to change, of the new hires attending the meeting. At each New Employee Orientation meeting the Association Representatives will have thirty (30) minutes to meet with new hires. The Association President, Membership Chairperson or Representatives will provide SCSS a copy of any payroll deduction forms received from new employees within ten (10) days of receipt.
New Bargaining Unit Member Orientation. Each time a person is newly employed in a position in the bargaining unit, the District shall inform them of their employment status, rights, benefits, duties and responsibilities, and other employment- related matters. The District shall provide an annual new bargaining unit member orientation for all newly hired bargaining unit members to take place within seven (7) calendar days prior to the first day of classes, except when no new bargaining unit members are commencing employment at the start of a given year. Any bargaining unit member(s) hired after the start of the school year shall be provided an in- person orientation/onboarding meeting within twenty-one (21) calendar days from the date of hire. The District shall provide written notice of the date, time and location of all bargaining unit member orientations/onboarding meetings, by certified or electronic mail, to the Association president and vice president no later than twenty-one (21) calendar days in advance of the annual orientation meeting(s) or ten (10) calendar days in advance of other orientation/onboarding meetings that may occur throughout that year. In the event the District is unable to comply with the stated advance notice, the District shall, at the request of the Association, reschedule the orientation/onboarding meeting and provide the advance notice. The Association shall be provided no less than forty-five (45) minutes of uninterrupted time to communicate with bargaining unit members at all new bargaining unit member orientations/onboarding meetings. Such time will not be provided at the end of a meeting day unless the Association requests to be placed at the end of the agenda. District administration shall not be present during Association time, unless the Association requests specific administrators remain present. The Association shall have District-paid release time to attend and participate in new bargaining unit member orientations/onboarding meetings for up to three (3) bargaining unit members, selected by the Association, if any orientation/onboarding meeting is held during contractual work hours.

3. The Association shall be provided up to one (1) hour of uninterrupted time to communicate with bargaining unit members at each new bargaining unit member orientation. All non-bargaining unit members shall excuse themselves during this portion of the orientation. Any Association representative requested by the Association to be present for this portion of the orientation shall be released from other duties to participate without loss of pay or other benefit.

15.3 All newly hired bargaining unit members shall attend the District’s orientation day.
15.4 The District shall provide written notice of the date, time, and location of all bargaining unit member orientation/onboarding meetings, by certified or electronic mail, to the Association president no later than twenty-one (21) calendar days in advance of the annual orientation meeting(s), unless the orientation is designated on the calendar.
15.5 The Association will be provided sixty (60) minutes of uninterrupted time to communicate with bargaining unit members at the new bargaining unit member orientation. Such time shall not include the period of time for lunch and shall not be provided at the end of a meet day unless the Association requests to be placed at the end of the agenda.
15.5.1 The Association is entitled to invite California Teachers Association (CTA) endorsed vendors and CTA staff to the Association portion of new bargaining unit members orientations/on-boarding meetings and will have access to District audio visual equipment for Association presentations.
15.5.2 The Association shall have District paid release time to attend and participate in new bargaining unit member orientation meetings for up to two (2) bargaining unit members, selected by the Association, if any orientation meetings are held during contractual work hours.

For unit members whose employment is starting at the beginning of the school year, the District will allow new unit members to attend an in-person orientation. This orientation session will generally take place prior to the first day of instruction, except when no new unit members are commencing employment at the beginning of the school year. The District will coordinate the new unit member orientation session with the Association. Administrators will excuse themselves from the Association presentation. The Association is entitled to invite California Teachers Association (CTA) endorsed vendors and CTA staff to these orientation sessions. For unit member(s) hired after the start of the school year, the District will schedule monthly in-person orientation sessions during the morning of a late start Monday. The Association will be provided with thirty (30) minutes of uninterrupted time within the contracted teacher work day for unit member orientation sessions that occur after the beginning of the school year. The Association shall have one hour of District paid release time plus travel time for one bargaining unit representative to attend and participate in these orientation sessions. An annual schedule of monthly orientation meeting dates will be provided to the Association President prior to the start of each school year. These monthly orientation meetings will only be held if a new unit member has commenced employment with the District during the previous month. The District shall only disclose this information to the new unit members, Association representatives, and CTA-endorsed vendors. The District will confirm whether or not the orientation sessions will be held at least ten (10) days in advance of the scheduled meeting. Administrators will excuse themselves from the Association presentation. The Association is entitled to invite California Teachers Association (CTA) endorsed vendors and CTA staff to these orientation sessions.

New Bargaining unit members shall be 11 paid their hourly rate, for the duration of these required 12 orientation/onboarding meetings when orientations occur outside the contract 13 year and/or day.

C. The Association shall be provided no less than twenty (20) of uninterrupted time to communicate with bargaining unit members at all new bargaining unit member orientations/onboarding meetings. Such time will not be provided at the end of a meeting day unless the Association requests to be placed at the end of the agenda. Office administration shall not be present during Association time, unless the Association requests specific administrators remain present.
D. The Association is entitled to invite California Teachers Association (CTA) endorsed vendors and CTA staff to the Association portion of the new bargaining unit member orientation/onboarding meetings and will have access to Office audio visual equipment for Association presentations.
E. The Association shall have Office-paid release time to attend and participate in new bargaining unit member orientations/onboarding meetings for one (1) bargaining unit members, selected by the Association, if any orientations/onboarding meeting is held during contractual work hours.
F. The Office shall not disclose to a third-party the date and location of new employee orientations to anyone other than the employees, the exclusive representative, and vendors that are contracted to provide services at the orientation.
