Other Unpaid Leave. Applications for further leave without salary, special leave or sick leave prior to or after the maternity or parental leaves identified above may be made in accordance with Articles 17 (Sick Leave) or 14 (Personal Leave of Absence) as appropriate.

Other Unpaid Leave. The Employer may grant unpaid leaves of absence to employees upon request for a period not to exceed one (1) year. Appropriate reasons for such leaves may include, but are not limited to education, parenting (if greater than ten (10) days), family responsibilities, or holding elective office (where holding such office is legal). The position of an employee who is on an unpaid leave of absence may be filled on a temporary basis in accordance with Article 7. The employee shall be reinstated to the same or a similar position if he/she returns to work within one (1) year. The Employer may extend the leave upon the request of the employee.
Other Unpaid Leave. The Board may grant extended leaves of absence, without pay or benefits, for further study or other reasons. Such leaves, if granted, are granted only for the purpose stated in the Staff Member's request for the leave, and should the conditions stated change, the Staff Member is required to so inform the Board and to be prepared to return to his or her normal assignment, or some equivalent assignment that is available at that time. If such leave extends from one school year into the next, the Staff Member must inform the Board no later than April 15th of that school year if they will be unable to return to work on the previously granted date. Failure to so inform the Board shall be interpreted to be, in effect, a resignation from the Staff Member's employment with the District. The Board reserves the right to limit the total number of such leaves of absence granted in any one Contract Year.

Such leaves shall not be granted for reasons of minor importance or mere convenience (e.g. to obtain less expensive airline tickets or to extend vacations).

Leaves under the category of "Other Unpaid Leave" for longer than thirty (30) days may be granted upon application in writing to the Office of Human Resources/Legal Affairs. Such leaves may be granted for not more than sixty (60) days in total and only on the written approval of the Office of Human Resources/Legal Affairs and only when the services of the employee are not immediately required and there are employees available in the department capable of doing his/her work. An employee who accepts employment while on leave under this paragraph will be discharged.

Other Unpaid Leave. Unpaid leave of absence not otherwise provided for in this Agreement may be granted at the discretion of the Employer. Such leave shall not be unreasonably withheld. The Employer shall continue to pay benefit premiums for a period of up to two (2) months when the leave of absence is based on compassionate grounds. Otherwise, the Employee shall pay full benefit premiums to the Employer where the Employee chooses to remain on the benefits, as listed in Article 19 – Benefits and Pensions.
Other Unpaid Leave. Teachers shall be permitted a reasonable amount of time off without pay for a specific reason, not to exceed one year, where approved by the Superintendent. Teachers who take an approved leave of absence must notify the Superintendent prior to the end of the leave if they do not expect to return to work so that appropriate teaching assignments can be made for the students.
Other Unpaid Leave. Trainers can access unpaid leave entitlements pursuant to the Standard. In general this means up to 2 days unpaid leave for carer’s leave or emergency situations and up to 52 weeks of unpaid parental leave after a minimum of 12 months of service.
