Personal Leaves of Absence Without Pay. 1. A non-probationary career employee may be granted a Personal Leave of Absence without Pay at the sole non-grievable discretion of the University. Such leave shall not exceed six (6) calendar months. Personal Leave without Pay shall not be considered a break in service and shall not determine eligibility for benefits except that the regulations of the retirement systems must be specifically checked to determine the effects of such leave without pay on retirement benefits.
2. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the University at its sole non-grievable discretion may approve extension of a personal leave of absence without pay for a total leave of not normally more than twelve (12) months.

Personal Leaves of Absence Without Pay. (a) The Engineer, in his complete discretion, may grant an employee an unpaid leave of absence for personal (non-medical) reasons. The Engineer's decision to grant or cancel a personal leave is not subject to grievance or arbitration.
(b) An employee on leave of absence will be entitled to return to his former or a comparable position upon his timely return from leave of absence.
(c) While on leave of absence, an employee's seniority and length of service shall be frozen; hospitalization and insurance coverage shall be suspended; and the employee shall not earn or accumulate sick leave, vacation leave or any other benefit the eligibility for which depends upon duration of active service.
(d) An employee on unpaid leave of absence may not be employed permanently or temporarily by an employer. Violation of this Section shall automatically result in the forfeiture of the employee's employment by the Engineer.
Personal Leaves of Absence Without Pay. The Board of Trustees, at their sole discretion, may grant up to one (1) year's leave of absence without pay to unit members for the following reasons:

Personal Leaves of Absence Without Pay. Personal leaves of absence without pay may be granted by the President. A personal leave of absence without pay may be for purposes of unpaid sick leave, outside employment, maternity/paternity, family care leave, or other purposes of a personal nature. Faculty unit employees on a personal leave without pay shall not accrue service credit toward probation, sabbatical eligibility, difference in pay eligibility, service salary increase eligibility, or seniority except as provided in provisions 22.22 and 22.23 of this Article.
Personal Leaves of Absence Without Pay. Upon recommendation of the Superintendent and approval 17 by the District Board, leave without compensation, increment, seniority or tenure credit may be granted for 18 a period of up to one (1) school year for the following purposes: Peace Corps or like service, service in an 19 elected public office, long-term illness of unit member, advanced professional study or academic training, to 20 care for a member of the immediate family who is ill, rest and recreation, teaching in a foreign country, child 21 care, pregnancy/maternity and travel. If leave is granted pursuant to Section 6.8, which also qualifies as 22 Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) under Section 6.10, such leaves shall run concurrently.
Personal Leaves of Absence Without Pay. (a) An Employee may request a personal leave of absence without pay for reasonable personal reasons. Such a request must be made in writing and delivered to the employee's supervisor.
(b) Each request will be thoroughly reviewed and permission will not be unreasonably withheld provided that granting of the leave of absence does not unduly interfere with the Company's operation.
(c) The maximum length of personal leave shall be sixty (60) calendar days. Extensions to the above may be granted under exceptional circumstances.
(d) All leaves granted shall be confirmed in writing with a copy to the shop xxxxxxx. If an employee takes a job elsewhere during a personal leave of absence or extends his/her leave without approval of the Company he/she will be considered as having terminated his/her employment.
(e) Before commencing a personal leave of absence, an employee will return any and all of the Company's property in his/her possession.
(f) Seniority will be maintained and accumulated during a personal leave of absence of sixty (60) calendar days or less. For personal leaves of absence over sixty (60) calendar days, seniority shall be maintained but not accumulated.

2. Reinstatement shall be to the same or at the department's discretion, a similar position in the same department provided that the employee returns to work immediately following termination of the leave. If the employee would have been laid off or terminated had the employee remained on pay status during the leave period, the employee shall be afforded the same considerations afforded other employees who are laid off or terminated pursuant to the provisions of Article 18, Xxxxxx and Reduction in Time, Article 19, Discipline and Dismissal, and Article 8, Probationary Period.
Personal Leaves of Absence Without Pay. 8.8.1 Unit members shall, upon request, be granted up to one year leave of absence without pay for the following reasons:
a. Health
b. Maternity
c. Child Care
d. To assume public office for duration of one term, except as provided by law
e. To assume an elective or appointive position within a certificated employee organization (for duration of the term)
f. Serious illness of unit member's immediate family
8.8.2 Leaves of absence without pay for personal reasons may be granted by the District whenever such absences would not be inimical to the welfare of the District. Unit members may, upon request, be granted up to one year leave of absence without pay for the following reasons:
a. Travel
b. Personal Necessity
