Effective July 1, 2017, the maximum payment for Professional Growth Awards shall be $1080 per year, at the rate of $90 per month for each month of contracted assignment, for all workers who meet the requirements. All permanent unit members are eligible to participate. The award is payable in January or June of the school year in which it is earned. 6.6.1 An application for an award must be accompanied by appropriate documentation: e.g., official transcripts or verification specifying dates and hours. An award may only be awarded once every two years, for a maximum of $12,960.
6.6.2 An application must demonstrate a diversity of activities. The hours may be earned through a combination of the following:
6.6.2.1 Completion of college, adult or continuing education, or trade school courses. Each course must be approved and evidence of completion filed with the Director of Human Resources. The grade received in each course must be at least a “C” or a “Pass” to qualify and no hours are earned for an audited class. The calculation of hours for courses which are assigned a certain number of units will be based on the following: • one quarter unit = 12 hours • one semester unit = 18 hours The District agrees to waive, at the time of registration, basic fees required by Foothill or De Anza Colleges.
6.6.2.2 Attendance and participation in non-required district-in-service workshops related to the work of the district.

Professional Growth Award. 21.7.1 Effective July 1, 2017, when an employee has completed nine (9) approved credit points, he/she shall receive a professional growth award equal to two and one-half percent (2.5%) of his/her annual base salary exclusive of overtime and all other stipends, payable on the following June 30. The award shall be two and one-half percent (2.5%) of the employee's base salary payable each following June 30 throughout the employee’s service to MCOE. An additional two and one-half percent (2.5%) award may be earned two (2) years thereafter. A maximum of three (3) such awards totaling seven and one- half percent (7.5%) shall be allowed per employee. Each new award shall be paid annually on June 30. This provision shall not apply to Associate Teachers who are assigned to work in the MESRP program.
21.7.2 When an employee assigned to work as an Associate Teacher in the MESRP Program has completed nine (9) approved credit points, he/she shall receive a

21.7.4 In the event an employee completes more than nine (9) units in any fiscal year, the employee may submit the additional units for the next professional growth increment.
21.7.5 If an employee has completed nine (9) units successfully but resigns or is terminated before the award is granted, the employee shall not be entitled to the award. If the employee is laid off before the award is granted, he/she shall be entitled to the award. When the laid off employee is rehired within 39 months, his/her professional growth awards shall be reinstated as though no break in service had occurred.
21.7.6 Employees who are currently receiving a professional growth award under the program in effect prior to July 1, 2017, shall continue to receive the same dollar amount they are currently receiving for those increment(s). Those employees may in addition earn a maximum of 3 professional growth awards (up to 27 units) as provided by the awards that become effective on July 1, 2017.
