Sick Leave Accrual Rate. All Officers shall accrue sick leave at the rate of 6.08 hours for each pay period in which benefits accrue.
Sick Leave Accrual Rate a. Allotment - all classified employees employed five (5) days a week shall be granted twelve (12) days leave of absence with full pay each year for illness or injury exclusive of all days they are not required to render service to the District. Such sick leave shall be prorated for classified employees employed less than full time. Full time is defined as (a) eight (8) hours a day, or (b) forty (40) hours a week.
b. A new employee is eligible to take no more than six (6) days, or the proportionate amount to which he/she may be entitled under this section, for the first six (6) calendar months of active service with the District.
c. If an employee does not take the full amount of leave allowed in any one (1) year, then the amount not taken shall be accumulated from year to year.
Sick Leave Accrual Rate. Sick leave shall be earned prorated from the date of hire at a proportionate accrual rate for each calendar month of service and is earned also while on sick leave. This accrual rate is based on the proportion that the typical firefighter's workweek bears to the standard 40-hour workweek. Unused sick leave shall be accumulated indefinitely. Sick leave accrual rates shall be as follows:
Sick Leave Accrual Rate. A represented employee’s accrual rate for sick leave shall be eight (8) hours per month based on a 2,080 hours per year work schedule. Sick leave will be accrued on a bi-weekly payroll basis for each payroll in which a represented employee is in a pay status for at least 5 working days.
Sick Leave Accrual Rate. All full-time employees of the Unit shall receive sick leave benefits at the rate of four (4) hours per pay period of completed service with the City. Employees who are absent without pay for any reason for more than eighty (80) hours during a calendar month do not earn sick leave benefits for that month. Regular part-time employees shall receive sick leave credit on a pro-rated basis determined by the actual hours worked in relationship to full-time employment.

Unused sick leave shall be accumulated indefinitely. (Rule P-3) (Note: The City will abide by, and in no case provide less sick leave than which is set forth in AB 1522, Healthy Workplace, Healthy Families Act (California Paid Sick Leave Act).
Sick Leave Accrual Rate. Sick leave benefits under this paragraph will begin accrual upon employment with the award of twenty‐four (24) hours of sick leave. Upon completion of the third month of employment, an additional twenty‐four (24) hours of sick leave will be awarded. Professional/Technical employees working a 5/8 or 9/80 flexible work schedule shall accrue sick leave at the rate of 3.69 hours per bi-weekly pay period (one (1), eight (8) hour day per month), and Professional/Technical employees working a 4/10 schedule shall accrue sick leave at the rate of 4.62 hours per bi-weekly pay period (one (1), ten (10) hour day per month). Upon separation from service with the City, all accrued sick leave shall be converted to the eight (8) hour accrual rate. In accordance with California Labor Code section 245 et seq., should a Professional/Technical employee separate from employment with the City of Fountain Valley, and then return to City employment within one (1) year from the date of separation, the employee’s accrued, unused sick leave hours at the time of separation after any sick leave payoff if any, shall be reinstated upon re-hire.
Sick Leave Accrual Rate. All bargaining unit employees hired prior to February 18, 1984, shall continue to accrue sick leave at a rate of approximately twelve (12) days per year. Bargaining unit employees hired after February 18, 1984, shall continue to earn sick leave at the rate of approximately ten (10) days per year.

Employees working a 5/8 schedule shall accrue sick leave at the rate of one 8-hour day per month (3.69 hours per bi-weekly pay period), and employees working a 4/10 schedule shall accrue sick leave at the rate of one 10-hour day per month (4.62 hours per bi-weekly pay period). Upon separation from service with the City, all accrued sick leave shall be converted to the eight (8) hour accrual rate.
