Teachers New to the District. 1. Teachers new to the profession shall receive increased professional development considerations. 2. All Teachers new to the staff of the District shall receive, within the first thirty (30) days of commencing duties, an orientation provided by the school's Administrative Officer and the Association. 3. The orientation shall acquaint Teachers with the basic operation of the District and the school, including such expectations and procedures that the Teachers will be expected to meet.
Teachers New to the District. (non-resident educators) A. The mentoring program is a way of providing quality on-the-job assistance for all teachers new to the district. The goal of this program is to provide teachers with assistance and suggestions to facilitate success in the classroom. B. Mentors will be selected from teachers who have submitted a letter of interest to their building principal during the month of April but no later than the last contracted working day of the year prior to the mentoring. The selection team must include but is not limited to at least one (1) Principal, the lead mentor, and former mentor teachers. After consultation with the selection team, the Principal will make the final decision. C. The requirements for the position of mentor include: 1. Mentors shall have at least five (5) years of successful classroom experience, two of which must be in the District. 2. Mentors will be assigned to the new employee within thirty (30) calendar days of board approval and reasonable attempt will be made to match the mentor and new employee in the subject area and/or grade level. Every reasonable attempt will be made to make the assignment to the new employee and mentors as fair and equitable as possible. 3. It is suggested that a mentor be assigned to no more than one (1) new teacher. 4. Should the mentor resign or be otherwise replaced, a proportionate stipend shall be made to the affected mentor teacher. 5. All records and interactions between the mentor and the new teacher will be confidential between the two parties.
Teachers New to the District a. Teachers new to the District will receive an orientation to the District. In addition, the teachers will be assigned a Shaker Mentor Teacher for the first year in the District. If the new teacher has a five (5) year Resident Educator License, every effort will be made to assign a Shaker Mentor Teacher who also has met the ODE training requirements for the Ohio Resident Educator Program consistent with Section 7.02 below. b. The Shaker Mentor Teacher must have at least three (3) years of teaching experience in the District and have a professional teaching license. Every effort will be made to use continuing contract teachers. Mentors will be assigned on a voluntary basis. The Shaker Mentor Teacher will assist the mentee in his or her assignment, observe the mentee, and give the mentee input on his or her performance. Evaluation of the mentee will remain a function of administration.
Teachers New to the District a. Teachers beginning employment in the District will be evaluated for credit hours and experience and placed on the New Hire Formula by the Executive Director of Human Resources or designee at the time of employment. b. Approval will not be given for courses required for original teaching certification. Original certification will be defined to mean the teaching certification required for initial employment with the District. c. Courses completed more than ten (10) years prior to employment will not be approved unless the courses are applicable to the current curriculum and/or methods in the teacher's projected assignment. The professional growth committee will review and approve all such course work.
Teachers New to the District. 12 Teachers new to the District shall be scheduled for two additional days of service with 13 one day to be paid at B-2 daily rate (see Section XII - Wages). The other day’s 14 compensation is included within the annual salary. Such additional days of service shall 15 be included in the certificated calendar. On one of the above referenced additional days 16 of service, teachers new to the District shall participate in District sponsored programs.
Teachers New to the District. Initial Placement On Column Horizontal Columns On the Teacher Salary Schedule - Each horizontal column represents either an earned degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, or an intermediate column which represents additional earned approved hours (or their equivalent in quarter hours). Credit will be given only for hours earned subsequent to the date the professional employee received his/her teaching certificate. Initial Placement on Step - The Superintendent shall, prior to any contractual commitments, review the new teacher's prior teaching experience and place him/her on the appropriate step on the salary schedule. Placement is determined by the teacher's past teaching experience in accredited educational institutions.

Teachers New to the District. The PAR program for Teachers New to the District may include the BTSA program. BTSA shall be supplemented with PAR funds as necessary to insure that Teachers New to the District who are not eligible for BTSA funding or do not wish to participate in BTSA are provided with the support deemed appropriate by the Professional Development Panel. All support provided to the Teacher New to the District shall be confidential in accordance with the BTSA program guidelines. The District shall provide the Professional Development Panel and BTSA with a list of all Teachers New to the District at the beginning of every school year, indicating the support program for which the Teacher New to the District is eligible. The District shall supplement this list during the year as required.
