Union Conventions and Meetings. 1) The Corporation shall grant leave of absence without loss of pay and without loss of seniority to employees to attend Union conventions, seminars, education classes and other Union business in connection with the administration of the Collective Agreement, provided such leave will not interfere with the efficient operation of the Corporation. Such leave will not be unreasonably denied.
2) During such absence the employee’s salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the employer on the basis of what his normal regular hours of work would have been, provided that the union reimburses the employer in the amount of such salary and benefits within thirty (30) days of billing.
3) In requesting such leave of absence for an employee or employees, the Union must give at least one (1) week’s notice to the Corporation.
Union Conventions and Meetings. Leaves of absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted to employees who are elected or otherwise selected or designated as official representatives of the Local Union to attend Council 25 or International Union conventions or other business meetings provided: 1) such leaves shall not exceed ten (10) consecutive regularly-scheduled working days; 2) no more than five (5) employees shall be granted such leaves at the same time; 3) no more than one (1) from any Trade group shall be granted such leave at the same time; and 4) written requests for leaves for the affected employees, signed by the President of the Local Union or a Council 25 staff representative, are received by the Employer's Department of Human Resources at least five (5) regularly- scheduled working days prior to the start of the anticipated leave of absence.

Leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted to an Employee elected or appointed to represent the Union at a Union Convention, executive or committee meetings of CUPE, its affiliates or chartered bodies. An Employee requesting leave under Article 25.01, shall make written application therefore not less than two (2) weeks prior to the proposed commencement of the leave. Where the absence of more than one Employee from an operating unit will create a staffing problem within that operating unit, this provision shall be limited to one (1) Employee from that operating unit. Operating units shall be defined as:
Union Conventions and Meetings. Section 20.1 - Attendance at Conventions - The Employer shall allow four (4) designees to attend Union conventions whether conducted by the Local, State or International Union. However, the following provisions shall apply:
(a) If two (2) or more representatives are from one (1) department, their attendance approval is contingent on whether scheduling will allow,
(b) Each designee must give at least two (2) weeks advance written notice to the appropriate supervisor and, in nursing units, prior to the posting of the work schedule, and
(c) Time off for this purpose shall be considered as time worked for the purpose of seniority only.

Leave of absence without pay will be granted to an employee who may be elected or appointed to perform Union business or attend conventions or meetings in connection with Union affairs. JURY DUTY Employees subpoenaed to serve as jurors or witnesses in Criminal or Civil Courts shall be granted leave of absence for such purposes, such leave of absence being granted without loss of privileges, enjoyed by the employees. Such employee shall present a satisfactory certificate showing the period of such jury service or witness service and the amount of compensation received therefore. If the employee deposits with the City Treasurer, the full amount of compensation received for jury service or witness service and presents an official receipt therefore, the Treasurer shall authorize payment of full salary or wages for the period granted as of absence, on account of such jury or witness service. If the Employee refuses to pay the Treasurer such funds, he shall forfeit the right to claim any part of his salary or wages for the aforementioned period of absence. Leave of absence with pay, to a of three (3) regular scheduled work days immediately prior to and including the day of the funeral shall be granted to an employee who has suffered the loss of a spouse, a son, a daughter, father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister or brother, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law, and one (1) regular scheduled work day for the day of the funeral for grandparent, a sister-in-law or brother-in- law. In the event of cremation, or delayed interment, employees shall be granted the day of interment of the remains, provided the day is a regular scheduled work day.

(a) Leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted upon request to the City to employees elected or appointed to represent the Union at Union Conventions. Leave of absence without pay shall be granted to employees to attend Executive and Committee meetings of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, its affiliated or chartered bodies. Leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted upon request to the City for one
(1) employee to attend collective agreement negotiations on behalf of sub- locals of CUPE Local 105.
(b) Leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority may be granted upon request to the City for employees to attend union seminars. Reasonable written notice shall be provided to the City. No request for any leave of absence under this provision shall be unreasonably denied.
(c) Employees on leave of absence as contained in this section shall have their time cards marked "paid for - not worked" (PFNW). Employee benefits shall continue as normal, and the City shall xxxx the Union the cost of wages plus twenty five percent (25%) for benefits.

Leave of absence with pay may be granted to employees to attend executive and committee meetings of CUPE, its affiliated or chartered bodies. The Board will invoice the Union for the cost of such leaves on a quarterly basis. Notwithstanding the foregoing, leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority may be granted upon request to the Employer to employees elected or appointed to represent the Union at union conventions or seminars. Such leave shall be limited to a total of ten (10) employee days per school year. The Board will invoice the union on an annual basis for the cost of any days utilized over 10 days per school year except days utilized for purposes of negotiations.

Leave of absence with no loss of pay, for three (3) days without loss of seniority, shall be granted, upon request to the Employer, to one employee elected or appointed to represent the Union at the Ontario Division Convention which is held once a year. The Employer shall further grant a leave of absence with no loss of pay for three (3) days without loss of seniority to attend the National Convention held once every two (2) years. Leave of absence without pay shall be granted to one (1) employee to attend executive and committee meetings of C.U.P.E., its affiliated or chartered bodies up to a maximum of five (5) days per year.
