Union Conventions and Meetings. 1) The Corporation shall grant leave of absence without loss of pay and without loss of seniority to employees to attend Union conventions, seminars, education classes and other Union business in connection with the administration of the Collective Agreement, provided such leave will not interfere with the efficient operation of the Corporation. Such leave will not be unreasonably denied.

Union Conventions and Meetings. Leaves of absence without pay and without loss of seniority shall be granted to employees who are elected or otherwise selected or designated as official representatives of the Local Union to attend Council 25 or International Union conventions or other business meetings provided: 1) such leaves shall not exceed ten (10) consecutive regularly-scheduled working days; 2) no more than five (5) employees shall be granted such leaves at the same time; 3) no more than one (1) from any Trade group shall be granted such leave at the same time; and 4) written requests for leaves for the affected employees, signed by the President of the Local Union or a Council 25 staff representative, are received by the Employer's Department of Human Resources at least five (5) regularly- scheduled working days prior to the start of the anticipated leave of absence.

Where the absence of more than one Employee from an operating unit will create a staffing problem within that operating unit, this provision shall be limited to one (1) Employee from that operating unit. If the Employee refuses to pay the Treasurer such funds, he shall forfeit the right to claim any part of his salary or wages for the aforementioned period of absence. BEREAVEMENT Leave of absence with pay, to a of three (3) regular scheduled work days immediately prior to and including the day of the funeral shall be granted to an employee who has suffered the loss of a spouse, a son, a daughter, father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister or brother, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law, and one (1) regular scheduled work day for the day of the funeral for grandparent, a sister-in-law or brother-in- law. In the event of cremation, or delayed interment, employees shall be granted the day of interment of the remains, provided the day is a regular scheduled work day.

Union Conventions and Meetings. Leave of absence with no loss of pay, for three (3) days without loss of seniority, shall be granted, upon request to the Employer, to one employee elected or appointed to represent the Union at the Ontario Division Convention which is held once a year. The Employer shall further grant a leave of absence with no loss of pay for three (3) days without loss of seniority to attend the National Convention held once every two (2) years. Leave of absence without pay shall be granted to one (1) employee to attend executive and committee meetings of C.U.P.E., its affiliated or chartered bodies up to a maximum of five (5) days per year.
