Unpaid General Leave. 18.01 Under the Alberta Employment Standards Code, there are guaranteed unpaid leaves of absence which will be honoured under this Agreement upon written request.

Unpaid General Leave. The employer will give consideration to request for leave of absence for reasonable periods of time without pay. An employee granted a leave of absence for the purposes of serving in an elected office, or appointed position shall continue to accumulate seniority, pay union dues and retains the right to participate in the pension plan and benefit package (employee to cover both employee and employers costs) for the first term of the elected, or appointed period. After which time if the employee continues in the position for additional terms their seniority shall be frozen. An employee granted unpaid leave for another purpose shall continue to accumulate seniority, pay union dues and retain the right to participate in the pension plan and benefit package, (employee to cover both employee and employers costs) for the maximum term of three years. After which time if the employee does not return to the Federation’s employment, the employee shall terminate their employment and receive all monies owing such as banked vacation pay; severance funds. Upon returning from such leave of absence the employer agrees to reinstate such employee in a job with the equivalent pay classification and benefits at the time the leave of absence took effect.
Unpaid General Leave. (a) Requests by employees for unpaid leave of absence shall be made in writing to the department supervisor and may be granted at the Employer’s discretion. The employee shall give at least thirty (30) days' notice to minimize disruption of staff. The Employer shall make every reasonable effort to comply with such requests. Notice of the Employer’s decision shall be given in writing as soon as possible.

Unpaid General Leave the employee must pay his/her benefit premiums directly to the Human Resources department or third party administrator if General Leave is un- paid or at the time that PTO/EIB (as eligible) is exhausted. If the employee’s portion of any premium is not paid within 30 days of its due date, his/her insurance coverage will terminate. Employees may choose not to continue insurance coverage during leave. If an em- ployee elects not to continue coverage during leave, the employee will have the option to re-enroll upon his/her return from leave. Once benefits terminate, the employee may continue medical insurance coverages by electing COBRA. Life insurance may be continued by applying for continuation, within 30 days of coverage ending, through the Portability and Conversion options available under the plan.   • General Leave Notwithstanding any provision for leave in this Agreement, the Employer may grant a leave of absence without pay to an employee requesting leave for an emergency or other unusual circumstances.   • Unpaid Leave 6. Accrued compensatory time off may be used at the employee’s discretion, with management approval, after exhaustion of 100% sick leave (No. 3 above). However, FLSA compensatory time off shall not be counted against the employee’s four (4) month (nine [9] pay period [720 hours]) family or medical leave entitlement. Therefore, any use of FLSA compensatory time off under this Section shall extend the employee’s family or medical leave by the total amount of FLSA compensatory time off used.

  • Annual Leave (a) An employee may elect with the consent of the employer, subject to the Annual Xxxxxxxx Xxx 0000, to take annual leave not exceeding five days in single day periods or part thereof, in any calendar year at a time or times agreed by the parties.
