Violence Prevention and Control. (a) The Employer agrees that no form of verbal, physical, sexual, racial or other abuse of employees will be condoned in the workplace. Any employee who believes the situation to be abusive shall complete an incident report and give it to the immediate supervisor who will make every reasonable effort to rectify the abusive situation. (b) The parties agree that if incidents involving aggressive client action occur, such action will be recorded and reviewed at the Occupational Health and Safety Committee. The parties further agree that suitable subjects for discussion at the Labour Management Committee will include aggressive residents. (c) The Employer shall notify the Union within three days of any employee who allegedly has been assaulted while performing her or his work. The employee may choose to have her or his name remain confidential. Updated statistics on numbers of staff allegedly assaulted while performing work will be brought to each meeting of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. (d) The Hospital, will consider a nurse’s request for reimbursement for damages incurred to the nurse’s personal property as a result of being assaulted while performing her work. Personal property includes eye glasses, ripped uniforms, personal clothing and watches up to a fifty dollars ($50.00) value, but excluding jewellery. (e) The hospital agrees to develop formalized policies and procedures in consultation with the joint health and safety committee to deal with workplace violence. The policy will address the prevention of violence and the management of violent situations and support to nurses who have faced workplace violence. These policies and procedures shall be communicated to all nurses. (f) The Hospital will report all incidents of violence to the Joint Health and Safety Committee for review. (g) The Hospital agrees to provide training and information on the prevention of violence to all employees who come into contact with potentially aggressive persons. This training will be done during a new employee’s orientation and updated as required. (h) Critical incident stress debriefing shall be made available to nurses.

(a) The Employer in consultation with the Joint Health and Safety Committee shall develop, establish and put into effect, violence prevention and control measures, procedures, practices, equipment and training for the health and safety of workers. (b) At least once a year the violence prevention and control measures, procedures, practices, equipment and training shall be reviewed and revised in the light of current knowledge and practice. (c) The review and revision shall be done more frequently than annually if: (i) the employer, on the advice of the joint health and safety committee or health and safety representative, if any, determines that such review and revision is necessary; or

The Employer in consultation with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee shall develop written policies to address the management of violent behaviour. (a) Such policies include but not limited to: i) Designing safe procedures for employees. ii) Providing training to these policies during a new employee’s orientation and at least annually thereafter. iii) Reporting all incidents of workplace violence. (b) The Employer will continue to make available to employees who have been the victim of violence in the workplace an employee assistance program which provides critical incident stress debriefing and post traumatic counselling. (c) The Employer will continue its practice of considering requests for reimbursement for damages incurred to the employee’s personal property, such as eyeglasses, ripped uniforms, personal clothing, as a result of being assaulted while performing his or her work. (d) The Parties agree that if incidents involving aggressive client interaction occur, such action will be recorded and reviewed at the Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee. Reasonable steps within the control of the employer will follow to address legitimate health and safety concerns of employees presented in the forum. (e) It is understood that all such occurrences will be reviewed at a Resident Care Conference, as soon as practicable after the incident.

(b) At least once a year the violence prevention and control measures, procedures, practices, equipment and training shall be reviewed and revised in the light of current knowledge practice and available funding. (c) The review and revision shall be done more frequently than annually if, i) the employer, on the advice of the joint health and safety committee determines that such review and revision is necessary; or
Violence Prevention and Control. The Health Centre and the Union agree that no form of verbal, physical, sexual, racial or other abuse of employees will be condoned in the workplace. (a) The Health Centre in consultation with the joint health and safety committee shall develop, establish and put into effect, violence prevention and control measures, procedures, practices, equipment and training for the health and safety of workers. (b) The Health Centre will make available training on violence prevention and control measures, procedures, practices and equipment to all employees during a new employee’s orientation and at least annually thereafter. (c) The Employer will notify the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and Union in writing of all incidents related to violence within four (4) days. For critical injuries the Employer will notify the JHSC and the Union immediately and in writing within 48 hours. Such notices will contain all of the information as prescribed in Section 5 of the Health Care Regulation. (d) Immediate critical incident stress debriefing and post traumatic counselling shall be made available for employees following a critical incident involving violence. Leave required to attend such debriefing or counselling will be without loss of pay. (e) The Health Centre will consider requests for reimbursement for damages incurred to the employee’s personal property, such as eyeglasses, ripped uniforms, personal clothing as result of being assaulted while performing his/her work. Such payment shall not be unreasonably denied.

A nurse who believes the situation to be abusive shall report this to their immediate supervisor who will make every effort to rectify the abusive situation. (b) The Hospital, with the nurse’s consent, will inform the Association within three (3) days of any nurse who has been assaulted while performing their work. Such information shall be submitted in writing to the Association as soon as possible. (c) The Hospital will consider requests for reimbursement for damages incurred to the nurse’s personal property such as eyeglasses, ripped uniforms, personal clothing, as a result of being assaulted while performing their work. (a) The hospital in consultation with the Multi Workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee agrees to develop and implement policies, procedures and programs pertaining to the provision of a safe and healthy workplace. (b) The Hospital agrees to support the Multi-Workplace Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and its Terms of Reference, Structure and Function. (c) Critical incident stress debriefing shall be made available to nurses.
