Work on Fixed Holidays. In the departments required to maintain minimum staffing on a Fixed Holiday, the City will attempt to fill necessary staffing needs by seniority on a voluntary basis. Where there are insufficient volunteers, the City will use inverse seniority in making mandatory assignments. Employees who are scheduled to work a shift of nine (9) or more hours on a fixed City holiday, shall be credited with one (1) or more additional hours of Floating Holiday time respectively, for use on that holiday.

Work on Fixed Holidays. 1. An employee who is scheduled to work on a fixed holiday will receive holiday pay up to the number of hours the employee is scheduled to work, in addition to all hours worked. Specifically:
Work on Fixed Holidays. Any worker required to work on a fixed holiday and in addition to regular hours shall be paid time and one- half for such work in addition to his/her holiday pay. Work on a fixed holiday beyond the number of hours in a regular shift shall be compensated at double time. Any part-time worker required to work on a fixed holiday and in addition to regular hours shall be paid time and one-half for such work in addition to his or her holiday pay. Work on a fixed holiday beyond the number of hours in a regular shift shall be compensated at time and one-half.

This does not impact the employee’s ability to cashout or transfer to deferred comp holiday hours below the four (4) day threshold.

An employee required to work on a fixed holiday falling on his/her scheduled day off shall be paid at the rate of one and one-half (1 1/2) times his/her straight time rate for the work so performed, plus a holiday allowance for all such hours worked at his/her straight time rate of pay.
