PLANT HOLIDAYS. 21:01 The following shall be recognized as statutory holidays: New Years Day Labour Day
(a) Where any of the above mentioned holidays fall on a Sunday, the Monday following will be recognized as a holiday. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, the Company will designate the preceding Friday, or the following Monday to be observed as the holiday. The Company and Union Committee may agree on other arrangements.
(b) Where any of the above mentioned holidays fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday the Company and Union Committee by mutual agreement may designate the preceding Monday or following Friday to be observed as the holiday.
(c) The Company and Union Committee may mutually agree on arrangements, whereby time that normally would be paid at overtime rates may be worked at straight time rates and substituted for a normal working day or any other arrangements that the two parties deem suitable.
(d) All employees who have acquired seniority shall receive payment for such holidays based on their base rate multiplied by the number of hours which would normally have been worked on such day, subject to the following conditions: To be eligible for holiday pay, an employee must work the full of the work day immediately preceding the holiday and the full of the work day immediately following such holiday. Provided that this restriction shall not apply to:
(i) An employee who has been absent and receiving Workers’ Compensation or sick benefits under the group insurance plan up to but not including the statutory holiday where such employee works the full work day immediately following such holiday.
(ii) Nor shall this restriction apply to an employee who has worked the full workday immediately preceding such holiday but who is absent and received Workers’ Compensation or sick benefits under the group insurance plan for the work day immediately following such holiday.
(iii) Nor shall this restriction apply to an employee who is absent either the work day immediately preceding or the work day immediately following such holiday by reason of bereavement as provided in Article 20:04.
(iv) Nor shall this restriction apply to those persons granted a written leave of absence.
(v) Nor shall this restriction apply to an employee who has been late up to seventy five (75) spaces (forty five (45) minutes) the work day immediately preceding the holiday or the work day immediately following such holiday.

PLANT HOLIDAYS. A weekend not worked is equivalent to five (5) holidays. Any balance of negotiated holidays will be paid based upon eight (8) hours at the normal pay per holiday.
PLANT HOLIDAYS. Employees with thirty days’ service or more shall be paid for New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day for the standard number of hours which would have normally been worked by them respectively, at the employee’s regular straight time rate of pay; provided, however, the employee works not less than fifteen days during the thirty calendar days immediately preceding the holiday. An employee who is otherwise eligible but fails to work a minimum of fifteen days during the thirty calendar days preceding the holiday, shall not be disqualified from receiving holiday pay, provided he works the shift before and the shift following the holiday. Eligible employees will be paid for four additional holidays (one will be Heritage, if proclaimed). These holidays may be taken any time during the year but, not normally during busy periods or consecutive with the employee’s annual vacation. The employee will give one week’s notice of the holiday he wishes to take and the day selected will be to the mutual convenience of the Company and the employee. It is understood that not more than one employee from a department, nor two from the plant, will take the same holiday. When a plant holiday(s) falls on a weekend, the Company and the Union shall discuss the matter and arrange a suitable work schedule for observing the holiday(s). An employee required to work on any of the above designated plant holidays, will receive time and one-half his regular straight time rate for work performed, in addition to any plant holiday pay to which he may be entitled under Paragraph If an eligible employee who is required to work on a plant holiday fails to do so, he will not be paid for the holiday, unless his absence is due to illness attested to by a doctor’s certificate, if the Company considers such evidence to be necessary, or other reason acceptable to the Company. When a plant holiday falls within an employee’s vacation period, the employee may elect to receive holiday pay as provided in this Article VI, or to receive an alternate day off with pay as the plant holiday. Should the employee be required to work on the alternate day, he shall be considered to have worked on a plant holiday.
PLANT HOLIDAYS. 6.01 All employees covered by this Agreement will receive eight (8) hours' pay at their regular straight time rates for each of the following Plant Holidays (regardless of the day on which the holiday falls) in addition to any wages which they may be in receipt of for work performed on such holidays:
1. New Year’s Day 7. Thanksgiving Day
2. Good Friday 8. Remembrance Day
3. Victoria Day 9. December 24th
4. Canada Day 10. Christmas Day 5. BC Day 11. Boxing Day
PLANT HOLIDAYS. 6.01 Employees with thirty days' service or more shall be paid for New Year's Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Dominion Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day for the standard number of hours which would have otherwise been worked by them respectively at the employee's regular straight time rate of pay provided, however, the employee works not less than twelve days during the thirty calendar days immediately preceding the holiday.
6.02 If one of the above designated holidays falls during an employee's vacation period, the employee will be granted another day off with pay, at a mutually convenient time.
6.03 An employee required to work on any of the above designated plant holidays will receive time and one-half his regular straight time rate for work performed, in addition to any plant holiday pay to which he may be entitled under Paragraph 6.01 or the employee has the option of advising the Company in advance of working the plant holiday of his desire to be paid time and one-half his regular straight time rate for work performed and receive the plant holiday as a floater at a later date (within the next six months) and be paid straight time for that day in lieu of the plant holiday pay defined in 6.01.
6.04 Subject to the requirements of Paragraph 6.01, employees will be paid for four individual "floater" holidays. These holidays may be taken anytime during the year but not normally during busy periods or consecutive with the employee's annual vacation. The employee will give one week's notice of the holiday he wishes to take, and the day selected will be at the mutual convenience of the Company and the employee. It is understood no more than one employee will take the same holiday.
6.05 When a plant holiday(s) falls on a weekend, the holiday will be observed on the Friday preceding or the Monday following.
PLANT HOLIDAYS. The following Plant Holidays will be observed and paid for: New Years Day Labour Day Good Friday Thanksgiving Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Dominion Day Boxing Day Civic Holiday ½ day before Christmas ½ day before New Years Employees entitled to 3rd, 4th or 5th weeks vacation must, by May 1st, arrange with their Supervisor for the dates to be taken. Final decision on dates rests with the Company. In cases of duplication of dates, seniority will apply. Pay for Plant Holidays not to be deducted from gross earnings when calculating Vacation Pay.
a) Employees who are in regular attendance before and after the day on which the Plant Holidays are observed, will receive their regular rate of pay for the day. However, in certain cases, an employee may be absent the day before or the day after a Plant Holiday and still be eligible for holiday pay. The exception is in the case of sickness proven by a doctor’s certificate. Plant Holidays falling on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday or Monday and Holidays falling on a Sunday will be observed on the following Monday. Night shift workers will observe the Holiday on the night of the Holiday observed by the Company.
b) Employees who are required to work on any of the above Plant Holidays will be paid double time, plus pay for the Plant Holiday.
c) Employees who are called to work on a Plant Holiday will be provided with a full day’s work and and pay thereof, except in cases of emergency beyond the control of Management or in cases where the Employee voluntarily leaves before the completion of the regularly assigned daily hours.
d) An Employee on annual paid vacation when one of the above Plant Holidays occurs, shall have the Plant Holiday added to the vacation period, allowing the employee an extra day of vacation, and shall be paid for same.
PLANT HOLIDAYS. Any employee who is not required to work on the negotiated plant holidays shall be paid twelve (12) hours at their regular rate of pay. Any employee who is required to work on a negotiated plant holiday shall be paid twelve (12) hours at their regular rate of pay, in addition to the appropriate overtime payment for all hours worked on such plant holidays.
PLANT HOLIDAYS. 22.01 Permanent employees with seniority standing will be paid for the following plant holidays. The Christmas Shutdown dates may be subject to change based upon the mutual agreement of the Company and the Union. (a) The employee is not absent from work on his/her regularly scheduled shift immediately before and after the holiday, unless s/he has a justifiable reason.
(b) The employee, at the discretion of the Company has been granted special leave of absence in writing, and this leave of absence does not exceed ten (10) working days before or after the holiday, such time to include the holiday.
(c) Any employee, refused permission for leave of absence in respect to the day before or the day after a holiday, can report the matter to the Plant Chairperson. The Company, thereupon, will state its’ reasons for refusing permission.
(d) The employee was not laid off more than ten (10) working days immediately preceding the holiday or was recalled within ten (10) working days immediately after the holidays. For the purposes of qualifying for Christmas plant holidays, the above window shall be increased to twenty-five (25) working days before and twenty-five (25) working days after.
(e) Employees called to work during the summer holiday shutdown period and laid off on Civic Holiday will be paid for that day at basic pay rates provided they work on their properly assigned hours on the foregoing clauses (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e), in which case the Monday following the shutdown will be for them a regular working day paid at regular rates.
(f) Employees not celebrating Civic Holiday during shutdown will do so on the Monday following the shutdown, and will be paid for that day at basic rates subject to the foregoing clauses (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e).
(g) Days counted as working days include Monday to Friday with the exception of those as set out in clause 22.01.
