LEAVE ABSENCE. Executive shall be entitled to unlimited paid time off, subject to the Company’s policy as from time to time amended in its discretion.
LEAVE ABSENCE. When the requirements of the Employer's operations permit, and there is no vacation entitlement, any regular employee upon written application to the Employer with a copy of said application to the Union, may, if approved by the Employer, be granted an unpaid leave of absence, in writing (with a copy to the Union) for a period of up to thirty (30) calendar days. Following consideration by the Employer, approval or rejection is to be given in writing, with a copy to the Union within thirty (30) calendar days and if approved, such approval may not be withdrawn except by mutual consent of the employee and the Employer. Such leave may be extended for an additional period of thirty (30) days when approved by both the Employer and the Union (in writing) and seniority will accrue during such extension. Any employee on leave of absence engaged in gainful employment without prior written permission from both the Employer and the Union shall forfeit his seniority and his name will be stricken from the seniority list and he will no longer be considered as an employee of the Company. An employee's request for leave of absence for compassionate reasons shall not be unreasonably denied, but he may be required by the Employer to substantiate the reason before returning to work. Any violation will be subject to disciplinary action. Subject to Article an employee on leave of absence who wishes to retain protection under the Health and Welfare clause of the Agreement (excluding Weekly Indemnity) must make arrangements with the Employer to continue with the payment required and must deposit with the Employer sufficient funds to cover the premiums while on leave of absence, said amount to be left with the Employer prior to the commencement of leave of absence. Retention of protection under this section is subject to the insurer's agreement that an employee on leave of absence will be covered if the appropriate premiums are tendered to cover the leave of absence. An employee who has been elected or appointed to work for the Local Union will be granted a leave of absence by the Employer and the employee may retain seniority to a maximum of one (1) year.
LEAVE ABSENCE. A leave of absence without pay up to a of six (6) months in any one year may be granted to an employee for any reason acceptable to the company. Such request shall be considered based on the Company's operating policies and schedules, the employee's seniority and the merit of the application itself. An employee who fails to return to work on or before the date of expiry of the authorized leave of absence without pay, shall be considered to have resigned from the service of the Company, unless the employee has a bona fide reason. The seniority will continue to accrue by an employee during such leave of absence. Upon return a leave of absence without pay, an employee shall have the right to reinstate a position equivalent to the one he occupied at the time he If there has been a reduction of manpower during the absence of the employee, he shall exercise his bumping rights upon his return. The employee who works for another company during this period shall see his employment terminated and will lose his seniority unless he has obtained prior authorization from the Union article will not apply to an employee who has a second job prior to the start of leave of absence. During a leave of absence without pay, the employee must reimburse to the Company an equivalent to his portion of group insurance payment, which he normally pays with postdated cheques. The company shall maintain its participation upon reception of these cheques.

LEAVE ABSENCE. An employee with seniority who has been elected to a full-time federal, provincial, or local public office, will receive a leave of absence without pay for the period of his/her first term in such office. Seniority will continue to accrue during the leave of absence. Application for such leave of absence must be made in writing no later than one calendar month prior to the leave of absence. An extension to such leave of absence may be granted at the Company’s discretion. The employee must deliver to the Manager of Human Resources, an application for reinstatement, in writing, no later than one calendar week from the time he/she officially vacates such public office. Seniority permitting, the employee will be reinstated to his/her last position with the Company, at the same level of pay on the pay grid last received in that position. An employee elected or nominated by the Union to attend Union conventions or meetings shall be granted a leave of absence without pay, but with full accumulation of seniority, for a period not to exceed up to days. The Supervisor or his designate is given a minimum one working weeks notice in writing prior to the actual date of the leave, and not more than three employee shall be granted such a leave of absence at any one time. The leave of absence will not be granted if it creates a void of skills within the trades classifications which can- not be replaced. The company will consider a shorter notice period for emergency meetings. All requests for Union Leave will specify the nature of the union business along with the departure and returning dates When the representative returns to work, he shall be reinstated to his former classification.

However, a broker off work as set out above shall not, by virtue of absence, retain seniority over a senior broker who has been laid off. In the event of sickness or injury to a broker, before a replacement driver is allowed to operate the absent broker’s truck, the Company and the Union must meet to negotiate rates of pay and seniority rights. Brokers will be allowed to become Company Drivers, under the following conditions; if the Broker operations are dissolved, or if requests a transfer to the Company drivers position and the Company agrees to such transfer. However, will go to the bottom of the seniority list and start as a new employee for the day-to-day allocation of work but will serve no probationary period.
