Pregnancy/Adoption. There are three (3) types of leave that may be available to bargaining unit members immediately after the birth or adoption of a child: sick leave, FMLA, and unpaid child-rearing leave. The use of sick and FMLA leaves shall run concurrently. Use of unpaid child rearing leave shall commence immediately upon the conclusion of the use of sick and/or FMLA leave. Each of these forms of leave has the following eligibility and usage requirements:

Pregnancy/Adoption a. An Educational Interpreter shall be granted an unpaid maternity leave of absence for childbirth or child adoption as provided for under the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993. After the birth or adoption of a child during the period from August 1st through the last day of classes of that school year, an Educational Interpreter may use accumulated sick leave up to twelve (12) weeks or until the end of the school year, whichever is less. After the birth or adoption of a child during the period from the last day of classes in June to July 31st, an Educational Interpreter may use accumulated sick leave for the first six (6) weeks of the following school year. The use of FMLA and sick leave run concurrently, not consecutively.
Pregnancy/Adoption. Maternity and Related Disabilities for Teachers: Absences for pregnancy, adoption, and related disabilities for teachers will be allowed for twelve consecutive weeks per pregnancy or adoption as a temporary disability with all accrued sick leave privileges. After all accumulated sick leave privileges have been used, this shall be taken without pay.

Pregnancy/Adoption. If the reason for the childcare leave is occasioned by pregnancy or adoption, a teacher may utilize their unused personal and sick leave pursuant to the earned sick/personal leave provisions of the Agreement during a period of physical disability. However, a teacher shall not be eligible for sick leave during a period of time covered by childcare leave. A pregnant teacher xxxx also provide at the time of the leave application a statement from her physician indicating the expected date of delivery. Upon request, a non-birth giving legal parent shall be granted up to ten (10) days of leave, within 14 calendar weeks of the birth of the child deducted from accrued sick leave.
