Professional Compensation and Related Provisions. 17.1 Effective September, l986, newly employed teachers may be awarded full credit for teaching experience outside of the District, provided that said service was rendered after the attainment of a bachelor's degree and in an accredited school. 17.2 The salary schedules shall be as set forth in Appendix A. 17.3 The salary schedules in this Agreement include teachers' contributions to the Illinois Teacher Retirement System (TRS). The Board will forward said contributions to TRS on behalf of the teachers in accordance with procedures established by TRS. The Board shall not be required by this section or otherwise to pay any additional amounts to TRS on behalf of the teachers. Teachers shall not have the option of choosing to receive directly the amounts contributed to TRS by the Board on behalf of each teacher nor any right or claim to the contributions to TRS except as such may subsequently become available upon retirement or resignation from TRS.

Professional Compensation and Related Provisions. 1. Upon employment, certified employees new to the district will be given credit on the salary schedule for all complete years of full-time teaching experience in the public elementary and secondary schools. Part-time certified employees working 50% or more of a full day shall be allowed to move one step for each two (2) years of employment. These provisions shall not apply if it is necessary to hire new certified employees who have retired from the teaching profession. 2. The salary schedule shall be added as Appendix B. The certified employee work-year shall not exceed one hundred and eighty (180) days. 3. At no time will any TRS creditable salary/benefit/stipend increase to any employee be in excess of and/or cause the Bethalto Unit #8 District to incur any TRS penalty under the provisions PA 94-0004 that limits the amount of TRS creditable salary for retirement purposes. 4. In addition to receiving salary schedule enhancements, certified employees beyond step 26 will receive a $750 longevity bonus stipend for each year of additional service. Such stipends will terminate upon receipt of the retirement bonus compensation. B. Payroll Procedures 1. Payroll checks shall, whenever feasible, be issued on the 15th of the month. Payroll checks shall be delivered in a sealed envelope. 2. If a regular payday during the school year falls on a day when school is not in session, certified employees shall, whenever feasible, receive pay on the last day of school session. During the summer period, checks shall be mailed on the regular payday to the designated address of the certified employee. 3. In accordance with Board policy, payroll deductions for Association, IEA, and NEA dues shall be made on an authorization form supplied by the Association. 4. Withholding forms shall be delivered in an envelope whenever feasible. 5. Certified employees shall have the option of having their payroll check direct deposited electronically in the banking institution of their choice.

Professional Compensation and Related Provisions. A. Teachers new to the district shall be placed on the compensation schedule in accordance with the policy of the Board. B. The compensation schedule shall be as set forth in Appendix A and Appendix B which is attached to and incorporated in this Agreement. The compensation provided therein shall be for services during the school calendar as adopted by the Board. Increases to the compensation schedule shall be calculated on Step1. Teachers who work outside the calendar may be compensated for such work without regard to the compensation schedule (except as Appendix C, the Supplementary Pay Schedule shall apply). Anything in this Agreement to the contrary notwithstanding, assistants to the principals may be compensated in excess of the amounts set forth in Appendix A and Appendix B. C. The Board of Education of District #44 shall contribute on behalf of each individual Teacher the statutorily required member contribution to TRS up to a maximum of 9.40% (9.0% for TRS and 0.4% for ERO provided XXX is maintained by the State. This contribution is intended to be an “employer contribution” within the meaning of 414(h)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code. TRS will be paid on all income reported on the Teacher’s W-2 to the extent consistent with TRS rules. In addition, the Board shall contribute on behalf of each individual Teacher that Teacher's contribution 0.97% to the Teacher Retirement System Health Insurance Fund. D. Teachers shall be reimbursed at the rate per mile authorized by the Internal Revenue Service for all approved mileage to perform their assigned duties within the District. E. Payroll checks shall be regularly issued on the fifteenth and last day of the month. Each Teacher shall be paid on the basis of twenty-four (24) equal payments. During the summer period, for those Teachers not utilizing direct deposit, checks shall be mailed to the designated address of the Employee. Paycheck stubs are available through the Skyward Employee Management System. Each Teacher working ten (10) months or fewer in a school year shall execute an irrevocable agreement before the start of the school year (or before commencement of work, if the Teacher is hired during the school year) consistent with 409A of the Internal Revenue Code.

Statement of Policy The wage agreement shall be reopened if the General Assembly changes funding for the Teachers’ Retirement System so as to increase the cost of paying for teacher pensions or amends the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law (PTELL), 35 ILCS 200/18-185 so as to limit the District’s taxing ability. B. Payment of Teachers Teachers will receive their compensation bi-weekly in twenty-six (26) installments. However, compensation for June, July and August will be paid on the last day of school. Teachers must notify the District by May 1 if they prefer to receive 5 live checks instead of direct deposit. All teachers will be offered the option of having their paychecks directly deposited into a checking or savings account. The District shall establish a timeline for payment for compensation that falls outside the bi- weekly salary compensation (i.e., stipends, clubs and athletics) and shall share the stipend payment schedule with the SEA by September 1.
Professional Compensation and Related Provisions. 18.1 TEACHING EXPERIENCE Newly appointed teachers will be placed on a step of the salary schedule which corresponds to the experience level of the professional employee as determined below: Teaching experience must be verified by documentary evidence from the school systems in which the experience was acquired. A maximum of five (5) years experience credit shall be given to professional employees new to the district. The Superintendent, or their designee, may designate, by February 1st of each year, a list of hard to fill positions for the upcoming school year. Any external candidate hired to fill one of these positions will be granted a maximum of nine (9) years of experience credit on the salary schedule. 18.2 SALARY SCHEDULE The salary index and salary schedule shall be as set forth in Appendix "A" and "A-1" which is attached to and incorporated in this agreement. Such schedule shall be based on the calendar adopted by the Board. Progression of a teacher through the salary schedule shall not be automatic. The Board may, upon recommendation of the Superintendent, withhold a teacher's advancement on the salary schedule provided that the provisions of this agreement have been fairly and justly administered and when his/her teaching performance has been established as unsatisfactory. Eligibility for the lanes beyond the Masters' column requires academic graduate hours to be earned after completion of the Masters' Degree and in accordance with the guidelines for coursework and salary advancement. Hours earned in the initial masters’ degree in excess of thirty-six (36) will be granted credit on the salary schedule. No teacher may move more than one (1) vertical step annually. A teacher may move horizontally on the schedule one lane annually, provided the teacher submits to the district Personnel Office by October 15 an official transcript of graduate course work completed prior to September 1.
