Summer Students. The Employer may hire summer students. These students shall not be members of the bargaining unit. These students shall not be used to replace members of the bargaining unit.

Summer Students. Students hired for summer employment during the period May 1 to September 30 in accordance with the current Letter of Understanding shall be paid the Summer Student rate as provided in Appendix “A”. Students shall pay Union dues in accordance with the provisions of Article 3, Section 3.01, their hours of work will be the hours specified for Regular Employees, but no other provisions of this Agreement shall apply. Students required by the Company to wear safety footwear will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $55.00 per calendar year toward the purchase of Canadian Standards Association approved safety footwear that meets Company standards. Students must provide the Company with a paid receipt to support the purchase of approved safety footwear in order to obtain reimbursement.
Summer Students. It is agreed and understood that when temporary summer students are hired to supplement the regular work force for the purpose of vacation relief, they shall be designated as "temporary employees" for a term of employment that shall commence no earlier than March 15th, and shall not extend past October 15th. Summer students cannot apply for permanent status during their term of employment. Such temporary employees shall be subject to all of the provisions of this agreement with the exception of seniority. In the event of a reduction in the work force there shall be no layoff of a permanent employee until summer students are laid off.
Summer Students a) Summer Students shall not be employed while Employees on Seniority List A or B are on lay off in their respective trades. b) The rate of pay for Summer Students – Grounds shall be as set out in Appendix B – Wages. The rate of pay for Summer Students – Construction shall be as set out in Appendix B – Wages. c) Beginning in 2006 and thereafter, the Employer and the Union will establish annually the hourly rates of pay for Summer Students - Construction. The first year rate shall be 40% of the average ICI base rate and the rate for successive years will be 10% greater than the first year rate. d) The Co-op Student rate of pay shall be as set out in Appendix B – Wages and amended annually so that the rate equates to 40% of an average of the ICI base rates and established annually. Co-op students are not to do MCSTC bargaining unit work, unless agreed to by the Union. They are permitted to do job shadowing without pay with members of MCSTC.
Summer Students. To provide opportunities for summer vacation the Company shall have the right to hire students to fill bargaining unit jobs at 60% of the classification 1 General Labour rate of pay during the period commencing one month prior to the Victoria Day holiday until August 31. The above, the following conditions shall apply to all summer students: a. Summer students shall pay Union dues according to Unifor’s constitution. b. Summer students shall be permitted to work overtime only after it has been refused by the bargaining unit employees who normally perform that work have refused it. c. Summer students employment shall only be permitted provided vacation periods during that term be increased in order to allow permanent employees a greater selection of vacation periods. d. Summer employment shall be open to all children of bargaining unit employees provided they are a full time high school senior or attending college/university. Selection shall be done by random draw from all qualified applicants. The Company will provide to the Plant Chairperson the names of all qualified applicants prior to the draw for verification. e. No bargaining unit employee will be laid‐off or have their regular scheduled work day or regularly scheduled work week reduced while using either summer students or co‐op students in that department. f. Summer students will not be permitted in a department if that department has any bargaining unit employee on lay‐off status.
Summer Students. The employment of summer students to provide vacation relief has been a usual, annual occurrence at the National Parts Distribution Centre. During these negotiations, the Company clarified that the hiring of students during the summer vacation period would coincide with the need to provide for vacation coverage and availability of students finishing the school year. The Company further advised that hiring of students would not occur during the August - September period unless there were insufficient student employees to cover vacation requests.
Summer Students. The parties agree that the Company may hire “summer students” during the period from May to September. It is understood that these summer students will not be hired into classifications in which bargaining unit members are on layoff. It is further agreed that summer students will neither be subject to the terms of the collective agreement, nor receive benefits as described in the collective agreement. The Company agrees however to discuss with the Union the minimum hourly rate of pay during any year in which hiring of summer students is anticipated.

Summer Students. 45:01 Summer Students who are in full time attendance at university, college, vocational school or high school Level III and are normally a resident at Xxxxxxxxx Falls during the regular vacation period of the educational institution which they are attending, may be hired as students during the period from May 1st to August 31st in any year. Hiring shall be in accordance with Site Administration Regulation No. 3.5 dated 90- 03-30; Revised 2007-03-19 Rev 2. 45:02 Students will be governed by the Provisions of this Agreement with the following exceptions: (a) Article 8 - Adjustment of Grievances (b) Article 9 – Arbitration (c) Article 12 - Seniority, Job Posting, Recall, Layoff (d) Article 15 – Overtime Students will not work overtime, either scheduled or unscheduled, unless permanent employees within the classification are unavailable to work such work assignments. Students required to work overtime will have such time reported on overtime postings in the area they are assigned. (e) Article 24 – Vacations Vacation pay will be in lieu of vacations and will be paid at the rate of 7% of regular wages. Such pay will be calculated and paid each pay period. (f) Article 26 - Sick Leave Summer Students will earn one (1) day Sick Leave for each week of continuous employment, up to a maximum of one (1) week at any one time. Upon layoff the earned Sick Leave will be automatically eliminated. Proof of illness, if requested, must be provided to the satisfaction of the Corporation. (g) Article 38 - Severance and Retirement (h) Article 41 - Pensions (i) Article 42 - Benefits
Summer Students. (a) For the summer period (May 1st through Labour Day), the Company may hire students to work in the Distribution Centre on an as-required basis. The Company may hire up to five (5) students for a minimum of 3 days (24 hours) in one week. (b) Summer students shall not be entitled to any seniority rights during the specified employment. (c) A summer student shall be entitled to medical coverage if required. (d) A summer student will have his vacation pay paid out on each paycheque.
Summer Students. 2.3.1 The Union agrees to support the Employer’s application for funding for the employment of summer student employees and provide the required documentation in accordance with the funder’s requirements. 2.3.2 Wages and benefits for summer students will be determined by the terms of the summer student program.
