UNION MEMBERSHIP/DUES DEDUCTIONS. 2:01 All employees who are members of the Union and in good standing shall remain members for the duration of this Collective Agreement. 2:02 At the end of their probation period, employees will become members of Local 00-X, Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxxx Newsmedia Guild and will pay membership dues as a condition of employment. The Employer agrees to deduct bi-weekly from the wages of the employees covered by this agreement such union dues as the Union advises the Employer are due from such employees, and to remit such monies to the Union by the 15th day of the month following the month such monies were deducted from the employees. Newly hired employees shall pay union dues effective with their first pay. Initiation fees shall be deducted in the week following the end of their probationary period. 2:03 The Union recognizes the need and the Employer’s right to afford the opportunity to students from schools of journalism to work for periods in the newsroom as part of their journalism training. These students shall not be considered employees. No more than one shall be employed at any one time, and they shall not continue working beyond the normal work-term period at the respective schools. 2:04 The Employer shall notify the Union local in writing of the name, address, phone number, starting wage, starting date and classification of any proposed new employee within ten (10) working days of the person being hired for the position. The Employer will notify the local union head office of any changes to an employee’s address, phone number, job classification and employment status within fifteen (15) business days.

UNION MEMBERSHIP/DUES DEDUCTIONS. Section 4.1 The City agrees to deduct from the wages of each Union member, upon the written request of the employee to the Union Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 14, and subsequently forwarded to the City, the sum certified as monthly union dues and/or initiation fees. If any controversy arises on account of such deductions that the Union failed to notify the City to discontinue, the Union will furnish, at no expense to the City, competent legal counsel of the City’s choosing and the Union agrees to indemnify, save and hold the City harmless from any and all expenses, costs, or liability incurred by the City which arises out of or is otherwise directly related to such controversy. Section 4.2 Such funds shall be remitted by the City to the Secretary-Treasurer of the Union within fifteen (15) days after such deductions are made. The employee’s authorization for deduction of Union dues and/or fees is revocable subject to the conditions outlined on the check- off authorization or upon termination of employment. Section 4.3 The City will not be required to honor any monthly deduction authorizations that are delivered to the payroll section after the beginning of the pay period during which the deductions should start. Section 4.4 The Union agrees to refund to the City any monies paid to it in error on account of the payroll deduction provisions herein upon presentation of proper evidence thereof.

The Union will notify the District, in a timely manner, of any signed membership cards that have been received by the Union Local office. The District agrees to send all original membership cards and union dues to the office of the Union by the 15th of each month. Section 4.3.2 Indemnity Clause The Union will indemnify, defend and hold the District harmless against any claims made, and any suit instituted against the District on account of any check off of Union dues. The Union agrees to refund to the District any amounts paid to it in error on account of the check off provision upon presentation of proper evidence thereof. Section 4.3.3 The District agrees to make available to the Union and Chapter President or designee, upon request, a report of all new hires, including substitutes and temporary employees.

The Union will notify the College in writing of the percentage amounts of deduction. Any change in the amount deducted will require thirty (30) working days written notice. 7.4. The College is in no way responsible when earnings are not adequate to enable the dues deduction. If earnings are insufficient, no deduction will be made. Further, no initiation fee, assessment, retroactive, special or extra deduction will be made to make up any difference, and the College has no responsibility for the cumulative total amount deducted during the year.

UNION MEMBERSHIP/DUES DEDUCTIONS. A. Upon receipt of a voluntary authorization dues deduction card executed by an employee who is covered by this bargaining unit, the employee may have membership dues deducted by the City in accordance with the dues levied by the Union in accordance with its constitution and its by-laws. Employees may cancel their dues deduction authorization at any time subject to a fifteen (15) working day written notice to the personnel office, which will then notify the union. B. The City agrees to forward to the Union all dues withheld pursuant to valid authorization cards. Dues withheld will be forwarded to the Union each pay period. C. Should an issue arise as to the amount deducted, the City's only obligation is to present factual material as to the amount actually deducted. Any adjustment shall be handled strictly between the employee and the Union. D. The Union shall indemnify, defend and save the City harmless against any and all claims, demands, suits or any other forms of liability that shall arise out of or as a result of any conduct taken by the City for the purpose of complying with this section. E. Upon an employee’s separation of employment, union dues will not be withheld from an employee’s last paycheck unless specifically authorized in writing by an employee. F. In the event that 75% of the bargaining unit signs up for membership in the union, within 30 days of providing proof of reaching the necessary membership threshold, bargaining unit employees who are not members of the Union shall be required to pay a fee in lieu of dues, provided said fair share fee shall not exceed 85% of the regular dues attributable to being a member in the Union. The fair share fee shall be transmitted to the Union in the same manner as are the payroll deducted dues for Union members.
