Absence for Personal Reasons. The Company may grant leave of absence without pay for up to six (6) months if an employee requests it in writing from the management and if the leave is for good reason and does not unreasonably interfere with the efficient operation of the business. Employees on such leave will be maintained on applicable benefit plans, and the Company will continue to pay the agreed monthly contributions for benefits. Employees will be entitled to one such leave of any length per term of this agreement. When an employee covered hereunder is either elect- ed or appointed to a full-time position with the Teamsters Union, he shall be entitled to a leave of absence without pay for the period during which he is elected or appointed to ful- fil such position.

In the event of a denial, the Association may discuss the matter with the Superintendent, but may not grieve a denial. E. No personal day may be taken before or after a holiday without written approval of the Superintendent (for custodial and maintenance staff only).

Absence for Personal Reasons. 1. Ten month employees shall be allowed a maximum of three (3) personal days per year. Non-certificated twelve-month employee shall be allowed a maximum of four (4) personal days per year. For personal days taken with the prior approval of the Superintendent or the Board Secretary, the employee shall receive full pay. Application shall be made in advance except in case of emergencies. 2. Personal days will not normally be granted on days immediately preceding or immediately following a scheduled vacation or holiday. Exceptions may be granted for reasons beyond the control of the employee and acceptable to the Superintendent. 3. Personal days taken when approval has been denied by the Superintendent will result in a deduction of one twentieth (1/20) of the employee’s monthly salary for each day taken. 4. Additional personal days may be granted by the Superintendent, but in any such instances, an amount equal to the current per diem rate of the substitute may be deducted from the employee’s salary. 5. Unused personal days shall accumulate as sick days.

Death in the Family/Bereavement: Three (3) days leave shall be available for each death in the immediate family or immediate household. Immediate family is defined as including exclusively the following relatives of the employee: mother, father, grandparents, brothers, sisters, mother in-law, father-in-law, spouse, child, grandchild, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, registered domestic partner or civil union partner. An additional two (2) days leave shall be available for the death of an employee's parent, spouse, registered domestic partner or civil union partner, child or grandchild.
