Absence Notification. A. Employees must obtain advance approval for use of vacation, personal leave, compensatory time off or sick leave for cases other than an unanticipated disabling illness or injury or for the need to care for a family member who becomes ill or injured.
B. In circumstances where it is not possible to anticipate an absence and secure prior approval, the employee should notify his/her supervisor in a timely manner to report the absence. In most circumstances, the call should be made within one (1) hour of the scheduled starting time. Non–emergency medical appointments, sick leave, vacation, compensatory time off and personal leave are to be scheduled and approved sufficiently ahead of time so as to minimize the impact on unit operations.
C. The District shall not require an employee to give a reason as a condition for approving the use of vacation, compensatory time, or personal leave provided prior approval is requested.
D. Any unauthorized absence by an employee shall be deemed to be an absence without pay and will be grounds for disciplinary action by the appointing authority. Any employee who is absent for three (3) consecutive days or more without authorized leave shall be deemed to have resigned.
Absence Notification. Employees will notify the project leader or employer nominated person of absence as soon as they are aware of it and prior to commencement time.

Absence Notification. The school shall make a reasonable effort to promptly telephone and notify parents or guardians of a student in grades kindergarten through eight within two hours after the first class in which the student is absent if an excuse or authorization of absence from the parent or person having custody of the student has not been provided to the school office. The District and its Board, employees, or agents are not liable for failure to notify. Further, on or before the enrollment of a student in grades kindergarten through eight, the District shall notify parents or other persons who have custody of a student of their responsibility to authorize any absence of the student from school and to notify the school in advance or at the time of any absence. The District also requires that at least one telephone number, if available, be given to the school office so that a "reasonable effort to notify by telephone" may be accomplished. This telephone number, if available, shall be provided at the time of enrollment of the student in the school. The parents or guardians of a student shall promptly notify the school of any change in this telephone number.

Absence Notification. The employee’s immediate supervisor (voice mail acceptable or another departmental process) shall be notified of the intent to be absent, the category of the absence, and the anticipated duration of the absence, if known, in advance of the work shift. The specific time of notification may be waived due to illness of the employee or other personal problem. If the worker is absent for more than three (3) working days without contacting the immediate supervisor, such action will be deemed as grounds for disciplinary action.
Absence Notification. The Board agrees to maintain a process for acquiring a substitute teacher. The district will provide staff with the expectations annually for how to report an absence. Failure of a teacher to notify his/her building principal or agreed upon person by the deadline will result in disciplinary action, unless deemed excusable by the immediate supervisor. Once a teacher has reported unavailability it shall be the responsibility of the administration to arrange for a substitute teacher. The use of regular teachers as substitute teachers shall be avoided except in cases of emergency. In the event regular teachers covered by this Agreement are used as substitutes on an emergency or voluntary basis, said teachers shall be reimbursed at the rate of $15.00 per hour of substitute teaching or $18.00 per period at the high school and at the middle school if the middle school is on a (5) five period day or credited with compensatory time. Compensatory time may be used only with the approval of and at the discretion of the building administrator. Eligible employees must apply at least two days prior to absence. No more than two absences (personal business or compensatory day) may be granted for any day. Compensatory days may not be used on Parent Teacher Conference Days, exam days, or to extend a vacation. Accrued compensatory time is not accumulative from year to year. Partial accumulated days may be used in unique and/or extenuating circumstances, with prior approval by the administration. Any partial accrued days will be compensated at the normal rate at the end of each school year. Scheduling of substitutes must be arranged by the building principal. A time log will be kept by the principal. Teachers who wish to participate will inform their building principal, in writing, at the beginning of the school year.
Absence Notification. Except as specifically provided in Article 12, Section 1-A, when an employee is unable to report for duty as scheduled, he or she will notify supervision of such absence as far in advance as possible, but not later than forty-five (45) minutes prior to his or her scheduled reporting time unless unusual or unavoidable circumstances preclude this.
