Accumulation of Sick Leave Days. Teachers will be advised of their accumulated days as of the previous June 30 in September of each year. In addition, the Board shall forward a final statement to all teachers who leave the employ of the Board and who have provided a forwarding address.
a. Sick leave accumulated by each teacher prior to June 30, 1988, shall continue to be credited to that teacher.
b. A teacher shall accumulate sick leave days, pro-rated to the assignment, at the rate of one and a half (1.5) pro-rated days per month to a maximum of fifteen
Accumulation of Sick Leave Days a. Sick leave available is equal to the number of days of cumulative sick leave which has been earned by the Faculty member plus the number of days of current annual sick leave to which he is entitled. Accumulation of Sick Leave Days. A full-time employee may accumulate for future use at full pay a maximum of eleven (11) days for 10 month employees and thirteen (13) days for 12 month employees per year less the number of days used. Each day’s absence reduces the possible accumulation. There is no limit to the number of days which may be accumulated. Part-time employees will be allowed sick leave in proportion to the time employed.

Part-time employees may accumulate unused sick leave days, but the maximum permissible accumulation shall not exceed the number of days designated as follows: Employees who work five, 4-hour days per week may accumulate up to 180, 4-hour sick leave days. Employees who work three, 7-hour days per week may accumu- late up to 108, 7-hour sick leave days. Employees who work five, 5-hour days per week may accumulate up to 180, 5-hour sick leave days. Employees who work four, 7-hour days per week may accumulate up to 144, 7-hour sick leave days.
C. Any annual sick leave days which would otherwise accumulate thereafter shall earn additional vacation days on the basis of one vacation day for each three sick leave days (Note: for part-time employees who work less than a 7-hour day, the word "day" refers to the number of hours they are regularly scheduled to work in any one, 24-hour period). Excess sick leave days shall be converted to vacation days at the end of each calendar year. For the purposes of this policy, any balance of less than one and one-half excess sick leave days shall not be converted to a vacation day.
Accumulation of Sick Leave Days. All sick leave days not taken while employed in the River Edge School District shall be cumulative from year to year with no maximum limit.

SECTION 10: FMLA Maternity/Paternity Leaves, Sick Leave, Illness Leaves, and Prolonged Illness in Family Leaves, if granted, shall be administered consistent with, and shall satisfy the District’s obligations regarding, Family and Medical Act (FMLA) leaves. Also, employees seeking FMLA leave may be required to use any of the paid or unpaid leave available to them under applicable contract provisions.

j. When a faculty member is granted leave of absence without pay, the sick leave accumulation up to the time of leave will be registered and credited to him/her upon return to service. (BOR 10/21/71)
