Career Development Leave. Career development refers to an activity which, in the opinion of the Employer, is likely to be of assistance to the individual in furthering his or her career development and to the organization in achieving its goals. Career Development Leave. 50.01 Career development refers to an activity which, in the opinion of the Employer, is likely to be of assistance to the individual in furthering their career development and to the organization in achieving its goals. The following activities shall be deemed to be part of career development: (a) a course given by the Employer; (b) a course offered by a recognized academic institution; (c) a seminar, convention, or study session in a specialized field directly related to the employee’s work. 50.02 Upon written application by the employee, and with the approval of the Employer, career development leave with pay may be given for any one of the activities described in clause 50.01. The employee shall receive no compensation under Article 28, Overtime, and Article 32, Travelling Time, during time spent on career development leave provided for in this Article. 50.03 Employees on career development leave shall be reimbursed for all reasonable travel and other expenses incurred by them which the Employer may deem appropriate.

Career Development Leave. (1) A contract employee shall be granted leave of absence for one or two District semesters for advanced study for the purpose of completing collegiate work as a full-time student as defined by the college or university. (2) These employees shall be returned at the step on the salary schedule they had earned prior to the leave. No experience credit will be given for the time on leave. (3) Part-time leaves shall be for the full semester at the secondary level or to begin or end at winter break for the elementary level unless the teacher and District mutually agree on a different date.

A teacher who has successfully completed seven (7) full time consecutive years of teaching in the Allendale School District, upon recommendation by the Superintendent, may be granted a leave of absence by the Board of one (1) year’s duration for either graduate study or professional development in the area of the teacher’s assignment. 2. Application for a leave beginning in the Fall must be made by November 1 of the preceding year. All applications must be made on the standard “Career Development” forms, which include an outline detailing the proposed program. A Board decision will be made within two (2) months of the date of application. 3. Only one (1) teacher may be on leave during any year and selection will be based upon the following: X. Xxxxxxx of the leave. B. Teacher’s performance. C. Needs of the District. D. Availability of budgetary funds. 4. A teacher on leave shall receive one-half (1/2) the normal yearly salary less authorized deductions and shall receive all benefits normally received, except for personal leave and sick leave. Upon return to the District, a teacher shall be advanced on the salary guide to the next step, so long as the leave’s purpose was successfully completed. 5. Every two (2) months during the leave, the teacher must complete a standard report form, available from the Superintendent, describing progress. All official transcripts must be submitted as soon as available. 6. Upon return, the teacher agrees to remain in the employ of the District for at least two (2) years, unless discharged by the Board. Failure to fulfill this obligation will require that the teacher repay the Board all, or a proportionate ratio, of the salary received while on leave. 7. No teacher may be granted more than one (1) career development leave while in the employ of the District. Career Development Leave. A leave of up to one year may be requested every seven years to explore career development. The first request can be made after seven years experience with the district and shall be granted. Thereafter, the leave is discretionary with the district, but all leave requests will be given fair and serious consideration. Leaves may be for less than a full year. Each leave will expire at the close of the school year in June and shall be nonrenewable, unless an exception is made by the Board. Career development leaves initiated after the beginning of the school year will be reviewed by the district and may be denied on the basis of interruption to instruction. At the conclusion of a career development leave, the unit member will be reinstated to the position held before the leave unless the position has been eliminated according to the provisions of this agreement unless the leave is extended beyond one year, in which case, the member will be reinstated to a vacant position for which the member is licensed and qualified. If no vacant position exists, the unit member will be able to displace the least senior member holding a position for which the returning unit member is licensed and qualified.

Career Development Leave. Certified employees may request career development leave for the purpose of continuing their education at an accredited college or university. Coursework taken must be directly related to the completion of an advanced degree in the field of education or the employee’s subject area of expertise and must be a course that is not offered at any other time. The request for career development leave shall be made in writing to the Superintendent. The Superintendent reserves the right to limit the number of employees granted career development leave at any one time. Career development leave shall not exceed one hundred twenty (120) minutes per day and shall not exceed one (1) semester per year per employee. Any costs associated with said leave, including any substitute costs, shall be paid by the employee.

If the request is denied, the employee may request a written response outlining the reason(s) for the denial. (c) The employee shall receive no compensation under the Overtime provisions of the Collective Agreement during time spent on Career Development Leave provided for in this clause. (d) Employees on Career Development Leave shall be reimbursed for expenses in accordance with Article 42- Travel.
Career Development Leave. (a) Upon application by a teacher, XXXXX xxx, at its sole discretion, grant teacher development leave to a teacher with, or without, pay when, in the opinion of XXXXX, the career development leave is likely to be of assistance in furthering the teacher's development and in achieving the goals of XXXXX. (b) OTTAS shall reimburse a teacher, in whole or in part, for related tuition costs, registration fees, travel expenses and other costs which OTTAS, at its sole discretion, considers appropriate. (c) It is agreed by XXXXX AND XXXXXX that: (i) the total amount of $300.00 per year shall be allocated by OTTAS for attendance at conferences, workshops, seminars, etc., to be used for the benefit of teachers in the employ of XXXXX, for professional development; (ii) such amount shall be reserved for the exclusive use of the said teachers and for no other representatives of XXXXX. (d) XXXXX agrees to use all reasonable efforts to make teachers of XXXXX aware of career development conferences that are available, in sufficient time to allow them to attend such conferences. (e) Upon returning to duty, the teacher will, at a mutually agreeable time, and, in any case, no later than the current school year, prepare and deliver a professional development activity/seminar/workshop for the OTTAS staff, based on this learning experience. No presentation by a teacher shall be required unless such teacher has been reimbursed for costs related to attendance at seminars or career-development sessions. (f) XXXXX does hereby acknowledge the value of the C.A.J.E. conferences and hereby undertakes to lobby the V'AAD H'AIR for financial assistance for the teachers of the OTTAS to attend such conferences.
