EXTENDED LEAVES OF ABSENCES. A leave of absence for good cause may be granted at the discretion of the Board of Education. Such leave will be without pay. The Medical Insurance Program will be continued at the employee's own expense.
EXTENDED LEAVES OF ABSENCES. All candidates for an unpaid leave of absence should be aware of the following conditions:
1. During any leave of absence, all costs for fringe benefits will be borne by the candidate if such benefits are desired.
2. Upon return from a leave of absence a teacher shall be placed on the next step of the salary scale. Example: a teacher with 10 years of service would return on the eleventh (11) step of the scale. A step is not given for the year he is on leave.
3. By March 30th of the year of the unpaid leave of absence, the candidate will notify the Superintendent in writing of his intention to return to a teaching position of his certification. Failure to notify the Superintendent may result in disciplinary action by the Board, or lack of employment by the Board.
4. The Board of Education will not be financially responsible for courses taken during an unpaid leave of absence.
A. A leave of absence without pay of up to two (2) consecutive years may be granted to any teacher who joins the Peace Corps, VISTA, National Teacher Corps, or serves as an exchange or overseas teacher, and is a full-time participant in either of such programs, or accepts a Fulbright Scholarship.
EXTENDED LEAVES OF ABSENCES. A. A leave of absence without pay of up to two (2) years may be granted by the Board to any teacher who joins the Peace Corps, Vista, National Teachers Corps or serves as an exchange teacher or overseas teacher and is a full-time participant in either of such programs or has accepted a Fulbright Scholarship.
B. Military leave without pay shall be granted to any employee who is inducted or enlists in any branch of the armed forces of the United States for the period of said induction or initial enlistment.
EXTENDED LEAVES OF ABSENCES. 1. If not an emergent leave, the employee shall give 90 days' notice of the anticipated commencement date of the disability to their supervisor. An employee may elect to use annual and accumulated sick leave during the employee's period of disability. If the employee is disabled because of pregnancy, the period of disability shall be considered to be one month before and one month after birth.
2. The Board of Directors may require medical certification of a teacher's fitness to continue working or to return to work after disability.
3. An employee may elect to take an unpaid leave of absence pursuant to the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act ("FMLA") and/or the State Family Leave Act ("FLA"). If the leave is taken pursuant to the FMLA because of the employee's own illness, the employee shall simultaneously use the employee's sick leave entitlements. If additional time is required by the employee beyond the time periods permitted by the FMLA or the FLA, the Board of Directors may extend the leave to correspond to the ending of the school year. This request must be made by April 1 for which extended leave is desired. No request will be disapproved arbitrarily, discriminatorily or capriciously.
4. After a discretionary extension of leave by the Board of Directors, failure to apply for reinstatement during the school year in which the leave was granted shall be considered a resignation and will be so treated. Application for reinstatement must be made by April 1 of the school year.
5. No experience credit on the salary schedule nor credit toward accrual of longevity shall be granted during a leave taken in a school year when the employee is without a contract with the MOESC.
EXTENDED LEAVES OF ABSENCES. 30.1.1 a) The Board may grant requests for Extended Leaves of Absence, without pay or benefits, up to a maximum of two (2) consecutive years for Members who have completed their probationary period. Notwithstanding the above, in extenuating circumstances, probationary Members may apply for an Extended Leave of Absence. If such a Leave is granted, time spent on an Extended Leave shall not count towards the Member’s probationary period. Application for Leave of Absence under this Article must be made, in writing, by the Member to his/her Principal/Immediate Supervisor who will forward the application to the Manager of Human Resources or his/her Designate by March 1.

D. Those employees in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Major Medical Plan shall first submit prescriptions under their Major Medical coverage. When, during a July 1 - June 30 period, an employee accumulates five hundred dollars ($500.00) in prescription expenses for the employee, or the employee's spouse, or the employee's dependent; upon submission of the accumulated State Health Benefits verification forms, the employee shall receive reimbursement of one hundred dollars ($100.00) from the Board of Education. The employee shall be eligible for additional reimbursements of one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each additional accumulation of five hundred dollars ($500.00) of an individual’s prescription expenses during a July 1 – June 30 period up to a maximum of four hundred dollars ($400.00) reimbursement per individual per reimbursement period. An employee may apply for reimbursement for two (2) or more people (self, spouse, and/or dependents) whose expenses individually qualify for reimbursement; however, the combined expenses of two or more people will not qualify for reimbursement. Employees enrolled in Health Maintenance Organization Plans may change coverage to the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Major Medical Plan during the open enrollment period. For employees enrolled in HMO’s not providing prescription coverage, reimbursement will only be provided under the provisions of the preceding paragraph. The Board’s liability in any July 1 to June 30 period shall be limited to no more than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000.00).
E. Each supervisor shall be entitled to up to $100 per month towards the purchase of a Board approved Disability Insurance Plan.
F. Each supervisor is entitled to receive up to $100 annually towards the uncovered expenses for a physical exam.

B. At least ninety (90) calendar days prior to the expiration of such extended leave, the Administrator shall be required to indicate in writing his/her intention to return.
C. It is the ethical responsibility of the Administrator to make written application for reassignment accompanied by appropriate statements at least ninety (90) days to indicate his/her intention to return by the time the extended leave terminates and should the Administrator not respond within thirty (30) days to a written request from the Personnel Office sent at least thirty (30) days before the termination of extended leave, the contract shall be considered terminated.
EXTENDED LEAVES OF ABSENCES. A. The Board agrees that a leave of absence without pay for up to two (2) years may be granted to any tenured teacher who joins the Peace Corps, VISTA, National Teacher Corps, or serves as an exchange teacher or overseas teacher, and is a full-time participant in either of such programs, or accepts a Fulbright Scholarship.
X. A tenured teacher may be granted a leave of absence without pay for up to one (1) year to teach in an accredited college or university.
C. An employee with three (3) or more years of continuous years of service shall be granted a leave of absence without pay of up to one (1) year for the purpose of caring for a sick member of the employee's immediate family. Additional leave may be granted at the discretion of the Board. This time shall run concurrent with any time an employee may be eligible for under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act and/or the NJ Family Leave Act.
1. Any employee seeking to use sick leave for reasons associated with pregnancy shall file a written request for such leave with the Superintendent at least thirty (30) days in advance of the date on which the leave is to commence. The request shall also specify the date on which the employee proposes to terminate the sick leave.
2. Upon request, all employees shall be granted a leave of absence without pay for childbearing or adoption of pre-school age children. Child rearing leave will commence immediately following either birth, disability leave, or adoption and continue for the remainder of the school year. Upon request by employees with three (3) or more years of continuous service, an additional child rearing leave will be granted for one (1) or two (2) full work years for employees hired on or before January 1, 2003 and one (1) full work year for employees hired after January 1, 2003 after the first birth, disability leave, or adoption while in the employ of the district. Employees with more than thee (3) continuous years of service, may request and shall have granted an additional child rearing leave of one year for each subsequent birth or adoption. Notice of intent to return shall be given to the Board by March 1 of the preceding school year or in the case of twelve (12) month employees, notice of intent to return shall be given to the Board three (3) months in advance.
