Family and Parental Leave. At an employee's option, an employee may choose to use up to twelve (12) weeks of accrued sick leave, vacation leave, or compensatory time, in any order or combination, for the birth of a child or adoption of a child. Parental leave shall be granted in accordance with OFLA. FMLA and OFLA leaves shall run concurrently with all paid time off. When an employee has no accrued paid leave, FMLA and/or OFLA leave shall be unpaid.

Family and Parental Leave. All employees shall be granted parental leave in accordance with RCW 49.12 and/or the federal Family and Medical Leave Act. Accrued sick leave may be utilized by an employee for the disability portion of maternity leave and shall not be counted toward the twelve (12) week FMLA maximum. With agreement of the department, employees may work a reduced work schedule for up to two (2) months preceding or following the period of parental leave. The total allowable parental leave would therefore be twelve (12) weeks, plus any period of sick leave used plus up to two (2) months of a reduced work schedule.
