Family Member Illness. Up to three (3) days per year may be used for the critical illness of a member of the employee's "immediate family," which shall be defined as the employee's parent, spouse, child, or any relative who is a permanent resident of the employee's household. "Critical illness" shall be defined as a serious condition requiring the presence of the employee. The employer may require written verification from a physician. An additional two (2) days may be granted upon written request to the Superintendent.

Family Member Illness. Subject to the conditions and restrictions on an employee’s use of medical leave, and the provisions of this Article, an employee may use general leave or sick leave to attend to an illness of his/her child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner. In any calendar year, an employee may utilize his/her accrued and available general leave or sick leave bank in an amount not more than the general leave that would be accrued during six months at the employee’s then current rate of leave accrual.
Family Member Illness. Subject to becoming eligible to use sick leave by meeting the criteria of (K)(1) or (K)(2) above, an employee may use sick leave to attend to a family member as follows. Subject to the conditions and restrictions on an employee’s use of medical leave, and the provisions of this Section, an employee may use General Leave or sick leave to attend to an illness of his/her child, parent, spouse or domestic partner. In any calendar year, an employee may utilize his/her accrued and available General Leave or sick leave bank in an amount not more than the General Leave that would be accrued during six months at the employee’s then current rate of leave accrual.

"Family member" is defined to include spouse/domestic partner, children (including adopted, legal xxxx, step, xxxxxx, grandchildren, in-laws), siblings (in-laws), parent (in-laws), and grandparent (in-laws). The term "spouse" means current husband or wife as defined or recognized under state law for purposes of marriage. The term "parent" means the biological parent or individual who stands or stood in loco parentis (in place of a parent) to an employee when the· employee was a child. Such leave will be deducted from employee's sick leave bank. Notification of Absence - An employee should notify management per Departmental directive as soon as possible and/or no later than thirty (30) minutes prior to their shift start time if the employee knows that they will be unable to work. Should an emergency situation exist which makes it impossible or impractical to obtain prior approval from the designated authority of the department, the employee shall obtain such approval as soon as possible and no later than the first day of the employee's absence.

Up to three (3) days of sick leave may be used by a teacher for each serious illness of a member of that teacher's immediate family or birth of a child of a teacher. Serious illness shall mean an illness where death is probable and may occur, surgery is performed requiring hospitalization, or illness requiring treatment by a physician. Two (2) additional days of sick leave may be used where round trip travel is 600 miles or more.

  • Death in Immediate Family A regularly scheduled employee may be granted up to five days of leave of absence with pay by the Agency/Department Head because of death in the immediate family. An employee shall be allowed to take such leave within a four week period. For purposes of this subsection, "immediate family" means mother, stepmother, father, stepfather, husband, wife, domestic partner (upon submission of an affidavit as defined in the appendices), son, stepson, daughter, stepdaughter, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, xxxxxx parent, xxxxxx child, mother-in-law, and father-in-law, or any other person sharing the relationship of in loco parentis; and, when living in the household of the employee, a brother-in-law, sister-in-law. Entitlement to leave of absence under this subsection shall be only for all hours the employee would have been scheduled to work for those days granted, and shall be in addition to any other entitlement for sick leave, emergency leave, or any other leave.

  • Children/Grandchildren An employee may purchase life insurance in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) as a package for all eligible children/grandchildren (as defined in Section 2A2 and 2A3 of this Article). For a new employee, child/grandchild coverage requires evidence of insurability if application is made after the initial effective date of coverage as defined in this Article, Section 5C. An employee who becomes eligible for insurance may purchase child/grandchild coverage without evidence of insurability if application is made within thirty (30) days of the initial effective date as defined in this Article. Child/grandchild coverage commences fourteen (14) calendar days after birth.
